Shuntaro Furukawa, president of Nintendo, announced in a tweet that the successor for the Nintendo Switch will be announced by the end of the fiscal year. The keyword being fiscal, which, in Japan, ends on the 31st of March 2025, so it could still be about a year away. If we were to hazard a guess, and assuming it will release in around the same time frame as the original Switch, that would mean we could get a reveal in fall.
In adition to the news about the new console, the Tweet in question also confirmed a new Direct in June, though it was made clear that it'll only focus on software and will NOT feature the new console. The last June Direct was a pretty big one, announcing a large number of titles that would release afterwards, so we can expect this one to be of a similar magnitude.
Quote From Nintendo This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015. We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.
Are you excited for the upcoming Direct? What about the Switch successor? What are you expecting it to be called, and why should it be "The Switcher"? Let us know in the comments below!

Very excited for the new Switch as I'm looking forward to finally getting a Nintendo system again. I've been itching to replay some good old Ocarina of Time, Portal and other stuff that I don't get on my PS5, but knowing a new system was on the horizon has kept me from getting the current gen so far. Maybe this turns out to be the perfect Christmas gift to myself :D
The Switch might still be worth a purchase, since it has a huge library and I don't expect it to lose suppoer just yet (at least from Nintendo, third parties are probably gonna jump ship). But, seeing as the new consoles is expected to be backwards compatible with the Switch, it's probably best to wait.
As for Christmas, uhhh... The Switch launched in March, so it's possible they do the same here.
