Pokemon TCG Pocket to Introduce Trading Very Soon...But There Are Restrictions

Pokemon TCG Pocket has some exciting updates coming for the end of January: along with a new set of booster packs, we're finally getting the "Trading" part of "Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket"! Unfortunately, The Pokemon Company giveth with one hand and taketh with the other.

You see, there will be restrictions on how and what you can trade, at least initially. While they're fully spelled out in the official tweet below, a few "highlights" include:

  • Trading must be done between friends; no "auction house" here!
  • You can only trade cards up to 1-star rarity (so no foil art cards, Immersive cards, or golden Crown-rarity cards).
  • Trading is not completely free, as you'll have to gather yet-another item of some kind to do trades.

Naturally, this announcement has come with a bit of backlash. Some players (myself included) are of the opinion that we should be able to trade for the higher-rarity cards, and potentially in a manner that doesn't require exact one-to-one matching of rarity. The Poke-Pocket team stresses that they've seen the negative feedback and will assess accordingly, but for now, this is the system we'll be given when it launches sometime this month.
