OpenRCT2 Version 0.5.1 Released - UI Support Updated, Windows 7 and 8 No Longer Supported

Published 11 hours ago by

Version 0.5.1 of OpenRCT2 has been released. This is a fairly small update consisting of a few minor bug tweaks.

The OpenRCT2 team also announced that this would be the final update that supports Windows Action Runners on either Windows 7 or Windows 8, meaning that from this point onward, you will need to upgrade to at least Windows 10 to receive OpenRCT2 updates after this one.

Entertainer Statistic

The original game allowed you to see how many times a Handyman cleaned a path tile or emptied a litter bin, and how many times a Mechanic inspected or fixed a ride, but Security Guards and Entertainers had no such statistic telling the player how much they've done their own jobs.

Version 0.3.4, released on July 19 2021 added a statistic to Security Guards to see how many vandals they had stopped. Now on May 17 2026, a similar statistic has finally been added to see how many times a guest has been entertained by an Entertainer.

Android Icon and UI Update

Previously, the Android icon for OpenRCT2 was a bit pixelated and blurry. Now, it has been updated to look much cleaner.

On a side note. What is that game to the right of the OpenRCT2 icon? Maybe you should go check it out.

The UI on Android has also been updated. Previously, it essentially just looked like the desktop version on an Android device. Everything looked small, and because Android devices normally have round corners, this meant that buttons in the corners were slightly cut off.

The OpenRCT2 tested new UI options, using a Samsung A36 5G.

Windows 7 and Windows 8 No Longer SUpported on OpenRCT2

I mentioned this at the beginning of the article, but this bears repeating for the folks that are still using Windows 7 or 8. I'm not going to question or judge you for not upgrading, but if you want to keep updating OpenRCT2, you will need to upgrade your operating system.

Given that the team for OpenLoco has quite a bit of overlap with the OpenRCT2 team, I expect this same thing will happen for OpenLoco too.

Bug Fixes

The remaining changes in this version amount to relatively minor bug fixes. A couple in particular include:

  • Inverted quarter-helixes (a feature expanded in the previous update) would be invisible if old saves were loaded. They were still functional, and this was purely just a visual glitch.

  • Previously, the negative G and drop count stat requirements on the Flying Coaster were not nullified if the track had an inversion (as they did in the original game), and now this has been fixed.

  • Single rail S-bends previously didn't snap quite right at certain camera angles (but otherwise remained perfectly functional), and this is now fixed.

  • Guests were previously able to head for rides they had not ridden yet if they didn't have a map, which is behavior that didn't exist in the original game. This is now fixed.

Upcoming Breaking Change

Due to GitHub upcoming lack of support to Windows7/8 action runners, this will be our last release officially supporting those platforms. As they have been unsupported for years by Microsoft, we recommend you upgrade to play OpenRCT2 for security reasons!
