Summer has officially arrived in Overwatch 2, as Blizzard rolls out the Reign of Talon Season 3 midcycle - a packed update that brings back the Summer Games, kicks off two limited-time team composition experiments in Quick Play Hacked, and introduces the flashy new Mythic World Forger Mauga. There's a whole lot to unpack, so let's dive in.
What's coming to the Summer Games 2026?
The beach brawls are back, baby! The Summer Games return to the Arcade with all your favorite modes, meaning you can blast into Lucioball again, crank things up with Lucioball Remix, or serve up some fun in Winston's Beach Volleyball. As always, you can complete challenges to earn some summertime loot along the way.

Summer Games runs from July 14 to 30, so don't let the sun set on this year's celebration before you clinch your victory.
What are the Quick Play Hacked 1-3-2 and 2-2-2 experiments?
Sombra is back on business in Quick Play Hacked with two limited-time experiments that explore different ways to build your team. These take over the queue from July 16 to 19, and again from July 28 to August 3.
Blizzard says there's so much to talk about with these modes - and why they're running them - that it couldn't all fit into the blog. The studio has released a Director's Take covering all things Quick Play Hacked, so give that a full read if you're interested. The gist of it is:
They are using the mode to tell them where to put their attention in the future; It's collecting data.
Just go and play the modes and be sure to provide your written feedback to the team as well.
Testing 6v6 formats aimed at easing tank-role pressure and match volatility, without committing to a permanent format change.
Flex Queue (July 16–19): a 1-3-2 hybrid where any one Damage player can swap to Tank, giving teams either 2-2-2 or 1-3-2 comps. Avoids Role Queue's tank-matchmaking bottleneck while staying more consistent than Open Queue.
Flex Queue risks social pressure on Damage players to swap to Tank
Dynamic Queue (July 30–August 2, corrected date): the matchmaker defaults to 2-2-2 but shifts into Flex Queue format as a "release valve" when tank supply is short, aiming to preserve preferred 2-2-2 matches while easing queue times.
Dynamic Queue risks feeling less consistent/competitive due to format variability.
Stadium will keep balance updates, rank resets, and rewards, but won't get new heroes or maps — that dev effort is shifting to future format experiments.
Mythic World Forger Mauga
Quote From Blizzard Mauga has never exactly been subtle, so turning him into someone with massive, phenomenal cosmic powers somehow feels fitting.
Mythic World Forger Mauga draws inspiration from the forces that shaped oceans, islands, volcanoes, and the skies above them, transforming him into a larger-than-life figure. You can refine the look across four tiers of customization, including wild hairstyles, elemental colorways in shades of the sea, sky, earth, or fire, plus glowing tattoos and visual effects to make your entrances feel suitably enormous. Here's how the tiers break down:
Level 1: Begin your world forging as Creator God of the Sea & Sky.
Level 2: Shape your style with multiple hairstyle customization options.
Level 3: Harness the elements through a range of colorways, from volcanic crimson to earthly gold and stone.
Level 4: Glowing tattoos, flowing hair, and powerful visual effects further forge your mighty, mythical presence on the battlefield.
Season 3 Drives and Junkrat's Loot Hunt
There's plenty more to earn during the midcycle. Season 3 Drives returns from August 6 to 10 with a fresh progression track that lets you earn the exclusive new blue and purple Signature. Bringing a group along for the ride comes with a few extra perks, so it pays to team up.

Before that, Junkrat's Loot Hunt returns from July 31 to August 3 for another reward-filled weekend. Every match pushes you toward more Loot Boxes, your progress sticks around for the entire event, and you can tackle challenges however you want - no daily resets and no pressure.

How do you get the Twitch Drops?
It wouldn't be a midseason update without Twitch Drops. Blizzard is celebrating the return of Summer Games with a batch of exclusive Summer Games Hero Sprays.
