Team Ninja just dropped a double dose of good news for fans of its dark Three Kingdoms action, confirming that Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember is scheduled to launch on March 4, 2027 - and better still, an Alpha Demo is live today and available until September 30. If you want to jump into the dark action RPG early, now is your chance.
In the Alpha Demo, you can play part of the Changban stage, wielding Chinese martial arts that blend offense and defense as you traverse a Three Kingdoms battlefield where demons run rampant and clash with legendary heroes from history. There's also a new trailer showcasing both the hero and the legendary figures of the Three Kingdoms as they battle demons.
How do the open battlefields work?
Famous Three Kingdoms battlefields such as Changban and the Red Cliffs are depicted as open fields this time though they're not the same ancient China you've read about. As you cross these expansive maps, you'll find everything from enemy strongholds to demonic lairs, and how you approach them is up to you.
You can employ a range of strategies to turn the tide when the odds are stacked against you, including:
Flanking enemy lines
Capturing bases
Setting traps
Recruiting enemy generals to your side
What's the story about?
Wo Long 2 tells an original story set in a dark fantasy version of the Three Kingdoms. Elixirs of immortality and demons inspired by legendary beings from Chinese classical literature exist alongside some of the era's greatest warriors. Characters from the previous title will continue to play important roles, but the story is designed so even newcomers to the series can enjoy it without feeling lost.
The game features multiplayer co-op and character creation, both of which can be enjoyed in the limited-time Alpha Demo.
Are there any demo rewards?
Yes - defeating the boss Wuzhiqi in the Alpha Demo will earn you the special Fledgling Phoenix Helmet for use in the full game. The team is also asking players to share their thoughts in a survey, noting that player feedback makes a huge difference in shaping the final product before launch.
