What is Invoke in Legends of Runeterra?
Legends of Runeterra has many card effects that are common enough that they get their own keyword - a word or two that immediately tells you how the card works. Let's take a look at the Invoke keyword.
Pick a Celestial card from among 3 to create in hand.
Invoke is one of several keywords added to the game in Call of the Mountain. When you play a Unit with Invoke, you will get a choice of three random Celestials for you to pick from, out of a possible 22, with some results appearing more frequently than others. Some cards with Invoke can show you any 3 of the 22 Celestials, whereas some others limit what Celestials can be generated behind various parameters. Invoke is exclusive to Targon.
Keywords that Work Great with Invoke
No keyword by itself directly synergizes with Invoke due to the nature of the ability. That said, as some of the Invoke cards are cheap, as well as a few of the Celestials themselves, they can be really useful for activating Nightfall.
Playing Against Invoke in Legends of Runeterra
Invoke is exclusive to Targon, meaning that you won't need to worry about playing around it if your opponent isn't playing Targon.
One important thing to keep in mind is how some Invoke cards, being Spacey Sketcher, Solari Priestess, Starshaping, and Aurelion Sol will only Invoke Celestials of specific costs. You can use this information to further deduce what possibilities of Celestials your opponent may have received. Although high-Cost units and spells appear less frequently, you may wish to still play around some of the more destructive spells (i.e Falling Comet, Cosmic Rays or Supernova) in the off-chance that your opponent might've generated one.
In the case of Invoke cards that can potentially generate any Celestial, it is impossible to play around all of them at once, but not all of the Celestials will need to be played around. You might want to save removal in the event that they generate one of the larger Celestials (i.e The Immortal Fire, The Great Beyond, or The Scourge) especially given that the former two of these have Elusive.
Notably, The Traveler is a Celestial that has the Invoke ability, and can generate any Celestial.
Example Legends of Runeterra Invoke Cards
Moondreamer is a basic example of Invoke, as it has the possibility of Invoking any of the 22 Celestials.
Solari Priestess is a card that limits the potential Celestials generated by it. It can only generate a Celestial that costs 4, 5, or 6, limiting you to only 6 out of the 22 Celestials. One of them however is The Traveler, which can effectively allow this card to Invoke any Celestial.
Mountain Scryer is another card that can Invoke any Celestial. In addition to its Invoke effect however, it is also a card that synergizes with the Celestial tribe by making Celestials in your hand by cost 1 less while you control it.
Aurelion Sol is a champion that uses Invoke, and also limits the potential Celestials you can grab to ones that cost 7 or more. This limits you to only 8 of the 22 Celestials, however these 8 Celestials are among some of the most powerful in the entire pool.
