After Ragnarok, many of the human sacrifices to fallen Mesoamerican gods went "unabsorbed," failing to transition into any particular underworld, afterlife, or spiritual ecosystem. Many of these forgotten souls have begun to sort of "snowball" together into frightening amalgam entities that feast on fear and exist to angrily trouble the living.
