Please note the 100 experience per profession level change is arriving momentarily. It's running across the site in stages and will not appear until we clear the profession cache. 5-10 minutes at most from this post.
We've had the weekend to let people check out the new systems in place. I've been keeping track of everyone's feedback and we definitely do have some action items. Today's update is largely about character management and bumping professions up to a max level of 300 with a new curve to crafting gear for them that more closely resembles the natural progression of characters.
Characters
Classes are now characters. You can have up to 5 characters, and each one has its own class, name, level, talents, ability bar, gear, gear sets, Health, and Energy.
We will always give you 1 character slot for each class in Sidequest for free with an additional open character slot to do as you please.
In the future we will make a few additional character slots purchasable on the site shop for gold.
Make a new character from the new Characters screen in your avatar menu. Pick a class, then give your character a first and last name, or use your username. You can have more than one character of the same class.
A character's class can't be changed once it's made. To play another class, make another character.
Switch characters from the Characters screen, or from the character picker on your gear page, the World, and boss pages. Switching keeps everything exactly where you left it, and nothing is unequipped. You can't switch classes in the middle of a fight.
Characters you aren't playing still heal and get their Energy back over time.
Food, Well Fed, and Energy from gear only count for the character you are playing. Each character can eat up to the daily food Energy limit while you play it.
If you've unlocked 3 gear sets, every character has 3 gear sets. Buying a gear set unlocks it for all of your characters.
A piece of gear can only be worn by one character at a time. If another of your characters is wearing it, you'll see who.
Your professions, recipes, inventory, bank, Gold, currencies, achievements, and season pass are shared by all of your characters.
Your free boss swings each day, gathering timers, and crafting limits are still per account, so more characters means more Energy but not more swings or gathers.
Every class you already played is now its own character, with all of its levels, talents, ability bar, and gear sets. Converted characters use your username as their name. Converted characters in the future will be given an optional free name change.
Character names are one of a kind across the whole site.
It is not possible to use a staff member's username as a character name unless you are that staff member.
Combat logs, boss logs, and bout feeds show your character's name with your username, like "Flux Stronk (fluxflashor)". Boss leaderboards still list your username, and show the characters you fought with.
Your profile lists all of your characters, and hovercards and the hub show the character you are playing.
Gear From Creatures
Creatures now have a small chance to drop a piece of gear when you beat them. It matches the creature's level and is usually uncommon, sometimes rare. Epics to come later!
Looted gear from monsters in the world is typically a little weaker than crafted gear.
Other types of monsters in the future will have gear that can be more powerful than baseline crafted gear...
Professions to 300
Every crafting and gathering profession now goes up to level 300.
Your profession levels were moved onto the new scale, so you keep your progress. For example, level 20 is now level 35, and level 46 is now level 101.
Recipes moved up the ladder to match, with new tiers opening at 101, 151, 201, 251, and 276.
The way experience is being handled has been changed to make professions less grindy.
Each crafting profession requires 100 experience per level.
Orange crafts grant a base of 100 experience.
Yellow crafts grant a base of 50 experience.
Green crafts grant a base of 25 experience.
It is rarely possible to randomly gain some additional experience during Yellow and Green crafts.
All crafts are still impacted by crafting experience on gear.
Gathering professions also have experience changes:
Each gathering level now requires 100 experience per level.
You gain experience based on your profession level and what zone of the website you are gathering in. More closely matching your profession level to the zone grants you more experience.
If you are gathering in a level-appropriate zone, it should only take you a couple of gathers to gain a level.
We are definitely not done here, there will be other balancing happening with recipes in the future because the higher-end recipes right now definitely aren't as good as they should be.
Additional profession levels will be added in the future and may use different formulas since they will be considered "end game" profession levels.
Gathering Zones
Every part of the site is now a gathering zone with its own tier. The Waystone, The Commons, and Acres of Poets are Tier I, and the tiers climb from there up to The Gate of Realms at Tier VI.
Each zone drops its own tier of materials and fish. Higher tier zones need a higher gathering skill, and gathering anywhere below your level still works.
If your skill is too low for a zone, the gather menu greys that skill out and tells you the level you need. You won't spend Energy or start a timer on a gather you can't do.
We will better communicate zone levels with resources in a friendly way in a future update.
Astral Lotus can now be gathered in The Gate of Realms.

Fixes
Only a character level up heals you and refills your Energy now. Site level ups no longer do.
Eating Battle Stew during a battle now restores its 50 Energy, just like eating it outside a battle.
