General

• Improved page titles in several places on the site to better indicate what type of content is on the page ("Deck Name - Hearthstone Decks")
• Removed the January-only premium package from the site. This should have been gone on February 1. Cool.
• The Premium page has been updated to be more friendly and better convey the different options available to support the site (Patreon, Twitch, PayPal).
• Premium page will now display your Premium transactions. This is a mirror of the table available in Account Management.

• Expansion BBCode to link to expansion pages now accepts "icon"  to display an icon and "onlyicon" to display the set icon with no text.

• Fixed an issue with articles not filtering correctly in the search.
• Threads with 2 pages will now correctly display pagination shortcuts on the forum pages.

  • These are still on the Hearthstone portal. In our efforts to better cover multiple games, we're finally finishing the clearing-up of Hearthstone content on the main homepage.

• Fixed an issue where spoiler markup would fail to render.
• Cookies that keep track of the last part of the site you were on (for browser-side cosmetics) no longer expire when you close your browser, retaining theme.

Hearthstone

• Fixed debug info showing up in Fan Creations "my votes" section.
• Fixed a typo causing a server-side error when visiting the competition list. (This was hotfixed on Feb 18 after the first error was triggered)

Dev Notes

We're paying attention to all the feedback that has been brought forth for the new Fan Creations Card Design Competition system. We won't be making any major changes for the first competition but we are currently considering exactly what we'll change. So far we're happy with the positive response we've seen from the launch of the system and we're looking forward to a healthy competitive environment for Hearthstone card design that simply isn't being offered elsewhere.

New Features

Hearthstone

• A Fan Creations Portal has been added.
• Card Design Competitions have been added.
  • We're happy to announce that Card Design Competitions now have their own system on the site! This has been a long time coming and this is just the first iteration of the system. Expect more from us in this realm in the future.
  • You can always find open card design competitions on the Fan Creations Portal.
  • A list of competitions will also always be available on the competitions listing.
  • If you run into any issues, please contact me or ShadowsOfSense via PM here or on Discord.
  • We will spotlight competitions in weekly news posts.

Bug Fixes

• Fixed an issue where RSS feeds displayed the wrong URL.

This is likely the last deploy of January 2020! I've split up our larger end-of-January site update into today's update and one that will arrive on Monday, February 3 (need Friday and the weekend to go over more major systems).

New Features

Forums

The great forum overhaul of 2020 has arrived.

• Forum listing is no longer super simple, using a more table-like format.
  • You now see recent threads for each forum section.
  • Total replies and thread counts are also available. (Mobile these are hidden)
  • We'll bring back the "backgrounds" to make each forum look a little prettier in the future.
  • Dev Note: Originally, the goal was to keep the forum homepage very simple. This was ultimately a failure because it is more difficult to see how active each of the forums are. Attempts were made early on to display more information in the old format, but it was really ugly.
• Sticky threads now appear more like normal threads
  • Dev Note: The original goal with stickies was to make them look different and more simple so that they didn't take away from the conversations below. This sort of worked but only in theory. In practice, our stickies are places where discussion is actively happening and this may have hurt it. To compensate a bit, padding has been reduced on stickies so they take up less vertical space on the view.
• The latest comments areas now display avatars.
  • Dev Note: Sorry, this should have happened much sooner <3
• Threads with more than 1 page now display pagination!
  • You'll see a maximum of 6 pages for each thread. The first 5 and then the last one.

Profiles

• Member profile pages now display articles.
  • You'll see this page on any community member that has written front-page articles.

Legends of Runeterra

• Decks now have archetypes!
  • You can search for decks based on their archetype.
  • Archetypes can be assigned on deck creation or editing. They are not currently mandatory though we highly recommend using them.

Hearthstone

• Added database pages for keywords/mechanics.
  • We still have to write the content for them, so don't expect much!
  • These also now display on card pages when a card is flagged with that keyword.

Changes

Legends of Runeterra

• Region filter on deck listing now does an AND search instead of OR.
  • It is now infinitely easier to find decks from a combination of regions.

Bug Fixes

• Fixed an issue where decks were sorting by the worst ones first (Runeterra Portal and deck listing)
• Fixed an issue where the Runeterra card page displayed keywords that it shouldn't have.

General

• Fixed an issue where post counts were wrongly calculated on the site.

Known Issues

• There is a caching problem for forums with subforums. At times the forum listing will display a blank spot where "latest post" is. This will be corrected in a future deploy. This has been resolved.

New Features

Legends of Runeterra

• We've now got dedicated database pages for keywords!
  • These are linked on our card pages where a card has that keyword and in the navigation.
  • We're in the process of writing guides for each of the keyword pages. Check out the pages for Barrier, Drain, and Elusive.

• Added keywords listing to the cards dropdown.

• Card importer now flags mechanics that Riot's API does not include.
  • Prior to this change, Brightsteel Protector did not appear as a Barrier card.
  • This change makes card filtering a LOT better.

• Fixed an issue that prevented the cache from breaking on deck pages when a deck guide was updated.

A small update has been pushed to the site that focuses on search improvements. Thanks to Trimutius for asking for this over on Discord! (You should totally join us on Discord if you have not yet =) )

New Features

• Smarter Search
  • The default functionality of site search has changed so that it will lookup cards for the part of the site you are currently on.
  • If you are on a Runeterra page, or were on a page that doesn't have a "game" associated with it and were previously on a Runeterra page, you will see results for Runeterra cards.
  • Hearthstone pages get results for Hearthstone Cards
  • Magic pages will get results for Magic Cards (when available).
  • The default if you have no game selected is to search by the forums.
  • This also implements Runeterra Cards and Runeterra Decks into site search. It was absent due to an oversight.

Bug Fixes

• Fixed an issue where search was displaying forum threads oldest -> newest. It is now correctly newest -> oldest.
  • Dev Note: We'll eventually need to find a good way to make search show better threads at the top.

We've got a weekend update with some new stuff and a bunch of bug fixes. Part of the update involves some backend stuff that is going to be used in a larger update that is incoming.

New Features

• You can now rate news articles.
  • Dev Notes: I'm not sure how well this is going to go. I feel like people are going to downvote stuff because they don't like it even if it is quality content. If we find that to be the case, we may get rid of this since it looks awkward to have articles with low ratings and it may detract viewership. We'll see!
  • Article ratings are found at the top of articles, on the byline.
• Magic Portal is now live.
  • There isn't much on it yet, but it is using some improved tech that will later be applied to HS, Runeterra, and other games.
• Forums are now game aware.
  
  • Game portals will now only display forum threads from forums that are from that game.
    • Do note that non-game forums such as off-topic and site feedback and support also display here.
    • Due to the non-game forums display, you may occasionally see a feedback thread for a game that isn't the one that you're on the portal for. There isn't really a way around this unless we made feedback forums for each individual game - not happening.
• Additional portals are live for Eternal & Mythgard.
  • Do note that these are very early in development and we are not yet committing to regular news updates.
  • We will have some additional features on these portals in the future that will make greater use of the forums and the upcoming guides feature.

Changes

• Poll data is now cached more often.
  • To reduce database queries we're now caching poll data harder. This means you may not immediately see the results of a poll.
• We now link author profiles on news posts. Previously author names were not linked in the byline.
• Runeterra card images have been reimported after being optimized.
• Added additional structured data to news articles to provide search engines with more data.

Bug Fixes

• Fixed an issue that would bump forum threads when titles were edited or threads were moved.
• Fixed an issue where logged-out visitors would receive a "you must login" notification on pages where votes were present.
• Fixed an issue where voting hovers did not correctly highlight the previous stars.
• Fixed an issue with voting stars transitions not being smooth. (Goodbye flicker!)
• Fixed an issue with adventure chapters from displaying properly.
• Added CSS for the Galakrond's Awakening and Descent of Dragons expansion tiles that was missing.
• Fixed a typo in account management on the avatar field.

A small update today pushing out improvements for Runeterra support and the final prep for Hearthstone Adventures (pages coming when we get a chance to write them).

  • This is not all setup right now as we've been busy with Runeterra. Expect it real soon.

Bug Fixes

• Removed second advertisement on the homepage sidebar.

Still aiming to get a couple of big features out before the month is over, though it may be first week of February instead - this has been a busy two weeks with every game we're covering dropping content.

The mid-January site update! We're aiming to get a larger update out towards the end of the month with two long-anticipated features.

New Features

• You can now vote on Hearthstone decks on embedded deck widgets.
  • Sorry this took longer than intended. We had to combat caching mechanisms.

Changes

• Improved site-wide performance via caching improvements on comments.
• Voting performance has been greatly improved.
• Users with adblock will now see in-house promotions.
  • We're going to be using the ad space on the site for our own "ads" when visitors have adblock enabled.
  • Some of these "ads" will remind you that ads help keep the site running.
  • We'd really love it if you would unblock the site. The ads we display are less intrusive than a lot of other sites in the space.
• Premium has its own dedicated landing page. We'll make it look better in the future.
• Game Portals are now live on the Homepage.
  • These take the place of the Hearthstone decks that were on our homepage from the start.
    • Hearthstone decks will still display at the top of the Hearthstone Portal.
    • Dev Commentary: This is a change that needed to happen at some point. We aren't a site that only focuses on one game and by having the entire homepage covered in Hearthstone-only content, it doesn't feel right. More Hearthstone-specific content (brawls for example) will be pruned from the homepage in the future. We'll continue to use the homepage to spotlight content from all the titles we cover, so look forward to that.
  • These are easy ways to access the different "homepages" on the site that we're calling Portals.
    • If you only want to see information for one particular game, please feel free to bookmark that portal.

Happy New Year! Some items in this changelog have been previously deployed and were added just to keep you in the loop.

• Added Discord integration
  • You can connect a Discord account to your Out of Cards account.
  • Currently, this is only used for giving our Premium members a special role on Discord.
  • We run checks every 10 minutes, so it may take a little bit of time before new premium members get their role.
• New Ad Provider
  • We've changed ad providers, to NitroPay!
  • If you are in certain regions and are a non-premium user, you'll have some options.
    • European members will receive a GDPR prompt their first time visiting the site and any time they don't have the proper GDPR cookie set.
    • California members can click on a "Do Not Sell My Personal Information" link in the footer and on our privacy policy.
• Game Portals!
  • These are customizable homepages for an individual game. If you don't want to see anything from a particular game, you can visit them and bookmark them instead.
  • There is a known issue with forum threads showing up from all forums. We're not quite ready with that part yet ;)
  • A game portal is now live for Hearthstone.
  • A game portal is now live for Legends of Runeterra.

• The premium offerings for 6-month, 12-month, and a temporarily available lifetime subscription have been added to account management.
  • You can pay for a longer-subscription at a discount to support the site.
  • These are only offered through PayPal, so if you'd like to support the site that way, it is now available.
  • None of these subscriptions are recurring. It is a one-time payment.
  • Due to the manual process involved here, please give us up to 12 hours to get your account hooked up with premium access <3
• Ad placements are now manually defined, removing any chance of ads showing up in places we don't want them (comments I'm looking at you)

Hey all!

I wanted to just keep everyone in the loop where we're at when it comes to support multiple card games on the site.

As you've probably seen, we've begun to cover Legends of Runeterra, a card game from Riot Games which uses the lore of League of Legends. Right now, it is not possible to avoid seeing these articles on the homepage. I know this may be an inconvenience for some of you that only play Hearthstone, but do know that this is temporary. I am working on a solution that will allow logged-in users to customize their homepage preferences and logged-out users to at least be able to hide articles from other games.

Legends of Runeterra appeared out of nowhere so we were a bit unprepared for this. We're still looking to add Magic Arena support to the site by the end of year, so don't worry magic fans, we're with you on that!

The Navigation will be receiving a large update that will allow for game selection. We'll likely let logged-in users select their default navigation. The homepage will also be receiving a change at some point that will become generalized to all the titles we support and not just Hearthstone specific. At this time, we'll add in dedicated landing pages for all the games we support that will showcase things like decks, events, and discussions. We'll also give logged-in users the ability to convert the site homepage to one that supports only one game if they would like to.

I know some may not be a fan of us supporting multiple games, but it has been a goal of ours since the beginning. Especially when you see how Hearthstone can do so many things wrong, should the game every die we'd hate to lose the community we've created. Only good things can come from having multiple games supported on the site!

We'll likely be looking for some new volunteers to help with Legends of Runeterra, so if you're interested in that stay tuned for more information and be sure to stay active on the forums and discord! Anyone who is active on the site, showing their knowledge and helping out others is more likely to join our awesome team. We're also eventually going to look for people who want to help cover Magic Arena before we start on that, so stay tuned there as well.

New Features

• You can now display the card listing as card images!
  • The default will remain the table / text view since it is less to load for those on mobile or slower connections.
  • You can display the results as card images with the new "Results Display" dropdown.
  • Here are collectible card images displayed as images.
  • We might make these a little bit smaller to fit 5 per line as the default.
• The card listing can now filter by the patch they were added in.
  • The perfect feature for looking at all the raw card data we import during patches. 
  • This doesn't have an effect for very old patches. We'll eventually get all the cards updated properly though!
• You can now also filter cards by their text on card listings.

Bug Fixes

• Fixed a problem with the Hearthstone Deckbuilder's Mechanics dropdown that incorrectly removed cards with multiple mechanics.

  • You can now report comments and decks to us via Report buttons.
  • Comments can be reported with a button found below the comment.
  • Decks can be reported with a button under the deck name.
  • Those found to be abusing reports won't have a good day.
• Everyone can now edit their own thread titles!
  • You don't have to wait for us to do this anymore.
  • This can be done with a dedicated "edit" button found below your thread's title.
• Card Mechanics
  • You can now sort cards on the card search page by mechanics. Picking multiple will show you cards will all selected mechanics.
  • You can now sort cards by their mechanics in the deckbuilder.
• Card Relationships
  • Card pages will now show you their related cards. Check out Animal Companion.
    • Some cards are likely missing relationships. Let us know if you come across any and we'll get them added!

  • An "unlink" button has been added.
  • The "code" button has been moved to the top left of the editor, beside "remove formatting".
• Forum Performance
  • The forums have received a slight performance update thanks to some additional caching.

Bug Fixes

• Fixed the green icon that would sometimes appear on the navigation and then vanish.
• Underscores in card text have been replaced with spaces.
• Card pages will no longer display card images if the card image doesn't exist.

New Features

• Card tooltips can now support golden images!
  • No longer limited to only cardimg bbcode, you can now use the "gold" attribute on regular card bbcode.

• The deckbuilder now allows deckstring importing on the class deckbuilder pages.
  • Originally not a thing to keep things clean, we've heard your requests!
• Deckstrings are now more likely to import
  • After evaluating the different formatting that has been used for deckstrings on various sites, we should now support most of them due to better intelligence in parsing your input.
• The direct messages link and unread count now displays on the nav bar.
  • Moved from the user dropdown to make it easier to access.

New Features

• Added a filter for spam content.
  • If anyone ends up not seeing their comments after posting them, the site is considering them spam and you can talk to us to get them restored.

I'm sorry these don't come out as frequently as they should. We didn't push out much worth mentioning during the card reveal period and expansion launch. I've also been helping get all our new staff on board, as you've probably noticed with all the great new content we've had on the front page. Love 'em <3

New Features

• You can now "install" Out of Cards onto your Android Phone if you use Chrome.
  • Chrome on android has this cool feature called "Add to Home screen". We now have meta data that tells this how to act and will show our derpcorn icon should you choose to add the site to your home screen. It is easy, one-tap access to the site!
• Content authors on news posts now have bios!
  • They'll display at the bottom of posts if an author has written one. Learn more about all of us =)
• Deck Collection BBCode
  • We've got a new bbcode you can use to promote your decks. "hsdeckcollection" is the tag name and it accepts a comma-separated list of deck ids.
  • Example usage:
• Card BBCode can now use custom names!
  • By using the new, optional text argument, you can now give your memes card tooltips and styling.

• Deck Embeds now display class icons in the in their headers and have footers with votes, dust cost, comments, views meta data.

• Desktop users no longer have sticky navigation.
  • Dev Note: Feedback was mixed on this but ultimately it was decided to remove the sticky nav for desktop users as it sometimes created more problems then it solved.
• Achievement points now display on your comments and forum posts.

Bug Fixes

• When you have a class selected on the decks listing, the archetypes box will now populate with only that class (requires a page reload)
• Archetypes now sort by class and then alphabetical by default across the site.
• When you earn a new forum title, your old one will now still say selected.
• Fixed the default font in the editor from displaying as Arial. Open Sans is the way forward!
• When sending someone a direct message, you will no longer have it appear as unread for yourself.

To be able to sync your collection to the site (and be able to compare to decks).

This is the mail feature I liked about old hearthpwn. I really love this site and I really really dont wanna go back. But if hearthpwn get their client shit together I might go back. Don't get me wrong. This is in no way a "ultimatum" of sort. Just curiois since it impacts my way of playing the game. Is it months, years??

I do believe that this is a great feature of the site that a lot of people want.
