Combine "Edit Cards" and "Edit Guide" Into a Single Button: Edit

Submitted 5 years, 5 months ago by

I will clarify what I meant by that: If you remember well, on Hearthpwn, we used to access Mana Curve/Cards first, followed by Guide Editor where you can write a guide/name the archetype and such. In OutofCards, they are separated by two buttons. What if they are merged under "Edit" button so that we can switch between sections with the help of toggles? Rather than saving each time, one-time save would be convenient.

I'm sorry that my English isn't that good. So, what do you think of this idea?

I think there could be room to compromise between both implementations.

It could remain as it is now, but with the addition of allowing the user to still edit the guide on the same page as the deck builder as well as separately after it is created.

I think there should still be an option to edit the guide separately because it is unnecessary to load the deck builder in that case, especially on mobile.

I understand some convenience by having both under one, but I don't want to use another site as an example of how to do it "right". Although it would feel familiar, there are serious downsides to consider when putting them together.

The big one for me is I want the guide editing experience to be unhampered by a deckbuilding having to load all the cards and data. The deckbuilder on Out of Cards, although blazing fast when you compare it to the fossil that is HearthPwn, is still extra overhead for someone that just wants to edit their description. The amount of time I have personally wasted on editing small description changes over the years could have written so many more articles or deck guides on the site! I received a lot of feedback over the years that also disliked how slow it was for simple edits.

Another downside is I'd like to do a lot of really cool custom stuff to help people build better deck guides, and putting all that on the deckbuilder page, even if you had some kind of tabbed view (not a huge fan of tabbed views FWIW), may be too much. It also means people expect to have that information on the regular deckbuilder page and that isn't the goal I originally had for the system. The original goal for the deckbuilder was to make it really easy to save decks to the site. Add your cards, give it a name, make sure the archetype and deck type are correct and hit save. Most people don't write guides and use the site to store their decks meaning having to go through a guide editor only to ignore it would be counter productive.

I do see why you'd want to be able to edit both though. If you are changing cards around, there's a decent chance you want to talk about it. Perhaps a better solution would when you are editing a deck's cards, you'd be able to click "save cards" or "save cards and edit guide", the latter saving your cards and bringing you over to the guide page meaning there's one less button to click overall.

Wow, what a thoughtful paragraph. Your reasoning is so amazing that you changed my mind completely. I prefer the system we are using as of now, please don't change it. No need to waste time and "fossilize" the deckbuilder for my trivial request.

So, you can close the thread if needed, Flux. I'm glad to see that your devotion is what really makes Deckbuilder nourishing/evolving. For the Deckbuilder 😁

FWIW I really dislike the Hpwn system because it doesn't allow you to just edit the text of a description/guide without clicking past the decklist editor. I vastly prefer this one.
