The way Lulu is holding that horrified squirrel, with that mask-like face and that soulless smile... And I thought Nocturne was the stuff of nightmares.
Oh wait! Now I remember who she looks like!
Cuteness overload today, eh, Riot?
Oh look, it's Polymorph.
Oh look, its Turn to Frog, or Frogify, or [ Insert something Magic do first, in this case, turn a creature into a 1/1. ]
Can anyone explain why Whimsy! has "Silence" attached to it? Isn't transforming a follower into a 1/1 Squirrel with no text or keywords already silencing it in a way?
If the Silence effect remained permanent after the round ended and the follower transformed back, then it would make sense. Transform and Silence just seems unnecessary.
It's possible that the silence persists on any other spells until the end of round--i.e., you can't just save your unit by casting Fury of the North on it.
I don't think it is about that because Fury of the North would make the Squirrel 5/5 anyways. Silence isn't an ongoing mechanic. It is just one time and the card is Burst spell which will silence it before any effect.
It might be about new keyword Spellshield but on that case, I feel like it should have been worded as "Silence and transform ..." Like how Earth Shock is in Hearthstone.
Guys... Whimsy is... burst.
It'll be like playing against Harsh Winds, except they only need 4 mana up, and your 6/6 overwhelm gets eaten by a Spiderling.
This could change a lot about the way we play the game.
Flash Freeze is probably the better comparison, since it only hits one target. For 3, you set an attacking enemy to 0 attack but it keeps its health. With Whimsy, you set it to 1/1 and silence any special abilities it may have. So Whimsy costs 1 more mana, and is better in almost every situation. I think the extra power is more than worth it for 1 mana, but since Flash Freeze isn’t a common card in Frostbite decks, I think this will still be fair for the cost.
Yeah it is more like Flash Freeze in a vacuum. I think Whimsy will see far more play though - it's good in more situations, and has less cards in its region with a similar effect (ie Flash competes with Brittle and Harsh Winds). So you'll need to assume it's in their hand much more, which is why I think it'll have a big effect on the meta.
Time to listen to this on a loop for the next two weeks :D
At first I assumed that Support would be a big focus for Targon, but the reveals from the past two days have included a lot of Support cards for Ionia as well. So I guess that Support is a general theme for this expansion.
I like that. Support has seemed underutilized so far, and I think it will lead to a lot of interesting decisions during the game.
Yeah, it seems like Targon's theme is support units that grant permanent effects, whereas the other regions will have one-turn support effects.
Is it just me or lulu's art in pre-level up and post-level up are kinda different in style? Like the first one looks more real and the second one goes cartoony..
I think it's the 'lighting'. Her face has more detail in the first art.
That Fae Guide is REALLY good! Much better than calling it a Ghost on a stick, since it grants Elusive for the same cost!
in card games it's not always about being cost efficient.. specially in runettera where spells are generally more expensive..
ghost is a card I never seen played and the map only occasionally so granting/giving elusive is not that good as far as the meta made it be.
I agree with your point about mana efficiency, but I think I have different conclusions regarding Fae Guide's worth.
The big reason Ghost and Sumpworks Map aren't played more is because they are too vulnerable to card disadvantage. First: both are literally unplayable if you don't have a target to play them on. Second: even if you do land them on a good target, most decks will have an answer (direct damage, vengeance, will, frost bite, single combat, challenger, etc) that will create a 1-for-2 card disadvantage. Finally: even if you do pull off the perfect combo, most of the time it's just not that significant payoff--e.g., maybe you connect with Shiraza the Blade and deal 6 nexus damage? There are so many better combos that are more reliable and provide better payoff.
The takeaway here should be that Fae Guide is giving a decent body (3/3) PLUS permanently giving something elusive for a single card. That can be big, especially if support is as prevalent in this upcoming meta as promised.
I disagree about a 4 mana 3/3 being a decent body.. 4 mana 3/3 is really bad statline only if they give you some kind of card advantage they see play.. and at 4 mana it's hard to combo with the card you want to grant elusive to..
Swim evaluated the card more or less like I did he also said they card is probably bad because of stat line and being hard to combo with anything..
it's similar to Windspeaker in hearthstone, 4 mana 3/3 gives a really powerful keyword, but just can't really combo with anything reliably.
Whimsy! Seems a great spell, it doesn't target champions, but versus followers it's one of the best combat tricks.
Lulu seems pretty easy to level up because she doesn't require to be on the board; help, Pix! Is a cool reward, because we don't have any way to give vulnerable to an enemy at burst speed right now.
