I find it strange Tahm doesn't have regen or barrier granted those are his main gimmicks in LoL besides the eating of course.
Just now realizing he gets damaged when capturing... Hmm not that great honestly.. Too niche.. Need a lot of healing.. But goes well with vlad.. We will see how well it goes..
All I can say right now, that no one else seems to have said yet, is that Citrus Courier loves all these self-damaging effects.
I find this mechanic hard to evaluate, but I just want to say that Wise Fry has some pretty awesome flavor.
I don't like that An Acquired Taste damages TK, but maybe that's for balance reasons. I'm wondering if he should be paired with Demacia for Detain, so he can actually capture big threats without dying; or Freljord for Frostbite, with the same reasoning (Frostbite a threat, then eat them). Otherwise he has to capture low-Power units, which sucks.
Maybe played with Taric?
Targon can heal and protect Tahm, especially if it is a Taric deck that uses gems, while Tham gives those type of decks a so much needed low cost kind of removal.
Taric can give Tham though and undamageable after he level up, which work great for Tham. Not only that, after Tham himself level up he wants to attack to obliterate the units he captured, Taric gives the opportunity to attack without going to suicide
I can't predict if he will be good or not, i just think that he is cool and disgusting
seems bad to me
maybe pair with freljord so you can buff him?
I'm really not sure about this. He has 6 hp and takes damage every time he captures something with his created spell. Seems like he'd die super easily.
He needs 3 turns to create 3 spells, he needs 3 other units with low attack to capture them and not die, and then he needs to somehow not get removed on the meantime. And his spell is slow speed, and fleeting. How on earth is he ever gonna level up?
And the payoff seems very weak. Sure, he obliterates the 3 things he captured, but most of the time that will be small stuff, so he doesn't die on his way to leveling up. And after he does, he needs to attack to obliterate again, which is a guaranteed death sentence with how low he will be.
And what's with his followers? There is 0 synergy between them. They take damage for what reason? Has nothing to do with how Tahm works. I guess maybe he can heal them by eating them and spitting them out? But why do all this contrived stuff and not just play good statted followers right away. All these guys would be better as Vlad followers than Tahm, at least there would be a payoff for playing them.
Bayou Brunch will let him capture another ally and gain stats. Then when he levels up, those allies reappear on the board.
I’m not sure how well it will work, because you need to draw specific support cards to avoid the issues you pointed out. But if you can get the right cards into your hand, this seems very strong
These followers are thematically similar to Tahm Kench in terms of artwork, but you're not required to play them together. There are many other units in Bilgewater and other regions that will be extremely good with TK.
I can imagine TK pairing very well with Freljord, Demacia, Targon, Noxus, and Shadow Isles. The followers and spells revealed yesterday and today will be great with Targon, Shadow Isles, Demacia, and Noxus at the very least.
I know it's not required but i just think it's bad design. Whenever a new champ is released he gets followers which help his game plan. Swain got a bunch of spells that deal damage to both allied and enemy units, and units that deal direct nexus damage. Vi got all that 2 cost draw stuff play stuff package (even if she became a control staple and not an aggro/midrange). Aurelion has dragons with fury which keep growing for his level up requirement. Vlad has units that benefit from self damage. Nautilus and Maokai have toss followers.
It's true some champs don't have direct supportive synergy like Trundle's, but his have the behold 8 cost card stuff which has synergy with what the champ does.
My point is literally no card besides Bayou Brunch helps Tahm, and using him to heal his followers seems like a huge waste. Better ibliterate an enemy than heal a 2/2 to a 2/4, or a 3/1 challenger to a 3/4. Keep in mind to do that he needs to attack (meaning the unit you wanna heal is just removed for that attack), or level up (it stays in him for 1 or 2 whole rounds).
Perhaps Soraka will work well with him, but i think this level of codependency on another region just makes the cards bad.
On the contrary, I think it's good design.
Bad design is a Champion with strongly synergistic cards that cannot exist apart from each other, like Daybreak and Nightfall (as well as several that you mentioned). Those decks build themselves, leaving very little room for experimentation, aside from a few tech slots. When you see a Champion like that, you immediately know a third of the deck is taken up with a certain package.
When you see a Champion like Tahm Kench, you never know what to expect because his abilities have such broad application while still being completely unique and flavorful.
Specifically regarding the followers, I foresee 3 major synergies:
Tahm tahm
Shakedown looks awesome, especially in undying bilgewater deck.
Yeah, giving two enemies vulnerable at burst speed? Sign me up
I’m a little disappointed that they didn’t go in the self-damage synergy direction. Sure Tahm Kench takes a lot of damage himself, but he doesn’t work with Vladimir or the crimson units very well.
I'd disagree, he needs to survive dmg to be effective, meaning it works well with vladimir
