cards you were wrong about?

Submitted 3 years, 10 months ago by

So I'm just gonna list a number of cards I was wrong about and I want everyone to leave a comment with their own.

Legends of Runterra is a sufficiently complicated game to get your calls right 100 percent of the time

I thought this card was total trash boy was I wrong.

8 spell mana isn't that hard to hit in a ramp list.

If you run at least ten - 8 plus cards it will cycle or draw 2 usually.

and it let's you hit enlightened at burst speed so in the right deck it's practically a combat trick

We'll broaden this out to veteran investigator as well

Logic would dictate that playing a card to draw your opponent cards puts you behind on advantage

But it turns out in specific lists this can be used as an advantage

Shrooms is the popular meme way right now, but I think that it also has real potential in deep.

After all, once you hit deep and have nautiuls you can just empty your hand and your opponent can't

This one's cheating because he got a sneaky buff in the last patch

But this is a legit card now.

Pure value on cards like zed, or elusives, or anything that spawns 2 bodies

So let me know what cards you got wrong down in the comments.

    Wiggly Burblefish Card Image

Boy did I underestimate this card. I didn't factor it's interaction with Iterative Improvement, being able to play a 4/2 or a 5/3 elusive for 0 mana that gives you a spell is ridiculously powerful

    Moonlight Affliction Card Image

On the other end of the spectrum, this is a card that I overestimated, with it's ability to stunt and silence two units, I thought that this was going to be hush on steroids, while the card is not bad it's 5 mana cost prevent you from abuse it.

Moonlight affliction I put as a one of in most of my Targon decks, its that high impact. If you think about it, it's kind of like a harsh winds style of effect.

Burblefish for sure, I like it in Tf Apehlios in a big way, it's strong but not unfair in my oppinion.

Sure you can flood a board with them thanks to interative invention but these are all slow plays. Not the spell but playing the units and then swinging.

You would never ruinate into it, but like an avalanche, withering wail plus ping, mystic shot get excited, it's not game over.

Suit up is the scary card actually as it has always been in fiz decks. Turning an elusive.into a 4/4 at burst speed.

For me, it was Zoe. I was 100% convinced that she would be removed absurdly easily and never have an impact.

While it's true that, in a vacuum, she's really easy to remove, it turns out that requiring your opponent to remove a unit, whether they want to or not, is very powerful, and it opens the way for other things to not get removed later. It forces the opponent to expend resources on her, so even when she's bad and gets killed early, she still did her job.

To be fair about Zoe, she would actually be fairly bad if the meta has lots of decks that run tons of pings (like TF Go Hard and Bilgewater when Make It Rain was 2 Mana). Still though, she almost always generates at least 1 star chart, so she’ll never be awful.

A card I underestimated on a broad scale  (because I play decks with a lot of ping effects) is Zoe. I think Zoe lives from the exeptional ability of targon to protect units, a level of protection that would make even Teemo viable ...

Also I thought Riven and Viktor were good but... what buff card would ever be good in a silence meta?

Btw I really would want to know from you if think that silence made the game better or worse?

Definitely worse for me, silence counter anything that isn't spell shield and only one region has reliable access to that. I see lots of well deserved complain about Hush but I find Equinox to be just as obnoxious.

And this is why Targon has been the most played region - they have the silences and they also have the counters to the silences. No other region has spellshield at all, unless you count Shroud of Darkness and Captain Arrika (and yes, those are literally the only cards outside of targon that have it).

I don't hate that targon is good now, it literally took 3 mini expansions to get there and an event.

We're getting another region in march I think

So I expect a similar pattern.

See and that is the main reason why I got less and less interested in LoR since call of the mountain.

A new region came in got a gimmic that is a virtual middlefinger for a large portion of the cardpool, shinked the pool of viable cards significantly (while more cards are in the game...).

Targon got their main silence card nerfed multiple times already just to realize that it is still op and oppressive after the nerfs... maybe riot will admit one day that silence should not be castable in combat? That would kinda kill hush, but would revive so many interesting archetypes and make the game so much more fun imo.

Nobody talked about killing targon. Targon can be viable even without silence. Its in the end just a number game, nerf silence into the ground but buff guiding touch to 3 heal? Revert the pale cascade nerf (although that was 100% justified ) giving the region a less toxic identity would be cool tho. In the end I just don't want to play a game where pretty much every deck plays a ton of etb units because beefy/static effect units are worthless.

If silence and spellshield effects were the only reasons for players to run targon that would be kinda sad...

It's fine for a region to be the best region, obviously. There will always be a best region. But Targon is very definitely over the top right now. Hush is probably fine in its current form. Bastion is probably fine as well.

Honestly, the biggest mistake by far was giving Targon (a region that is very weak in direct removal) the most efficient removal spell in the game at this point (Calibrum). So, just run Aphelios (or even DON'T run Aphelios and run Gifts from Beyond instead), and you can shore up your biggest region weakness, while also having exclusive access to silences and spellshields. And obliterates.

Targon's main problem for me is it's versatility, The region have access to buffs, debuffs, protection, removal, healing. I know It's not the only versatile region, Ionia is also versatile but it's units tend to be lackluster stats wise, a weakness not shared by Targon. Not to mention that they also have both overwhelm and elusive units so we can add good finishers to the list.

Just wait til they give Targon a one-sided board wipe. Er, I mean, besides the one they already have ...
