  • Watch Post meta? Paladin maybe?

  • Interesting card, seems kinda slow though.

  • Watch posts seem too slow and too weird.

    • Agreed. But everything seems like it's slowing down, and we're going to ram minions into each other a lot.

      Let's get weird.

  • hmmm, I don't see how this can work. Summoning a bunch of 5/5s with no rush? It doesn't do anything to the board immediately. It's mush weaker than Souciologist Malicia, who has a similar summoning effects, is easier to trigger, and the 3/3s can fight back the board.

  • This will be awkward. But I played in the right deck might be great

  • I don't see big things for this right now but we might all be sick of this one by the end of the year if the watch posts carry through expansions.

  • right now it can summon only 5 5/5 (himself + 4) unless we see more watch posts

  • Interesting design but you have to build the deck around it. Not sure if it will be played

  • Do the watch posts have to be active on board for the summons to occur? Or is it as long as you played a tower any time in the game?

  • The watch posts seem more efficient as tech cards rather than standalone minions, so it seems weird to build your deck around these tech cards for this one payoff (that we know of so far). On top of this, Kargal Battlescar is just a stat dump with no immediacy. I'd much rather play Soulciologist Malicia than Kargal as Malicia's souls are more impactful haivng rush, despite -2/-2 in stats. We may get more watch post synergy down the line, but again, I don't know how a deck built around these tech card effects consistently win games.

  • Clearly the watchtowers are not good enough on their own, so you need something like this to justify putting them in your deck. All combined, plus some other synergies we haven't thought of yet, there could be some real potential here.

  • Fun card. Feels good with the outpost package.

  • The dream deck for Kargal Battlescar is something like Kargal Taunt Druid, where you use various buffs (e.g. Ironbark, Mark of the Spikeshell, Germination, and maybe even Mark of the Wild) to summon a bunch of Watch Posts and charge up your Kargal battlecry.

Granting them taunt effectively gets around the "Can't attack" issue, and once the Watch Posts have taunt, your opponent will have to interact with them, which will help get value out of the effects. But the big payoff for investing so much into those Watch Posts is a slightly worse Chef Nomi, so that's probably way too much work for the payoff.

  • Okay, now seeing the full picture with that one and the 2 posts revealed, but it seems like a big commitment to have all of those in your decks, plus have at least 2-3 played to get somewhat of value out of that Battlecry ; my head says too slow, but my heart wants to make it work!

  • Oh no, you drop this and summon ~2 (on average?) 5/5s that don't do anything for one turn! Also, the Watch Towers you have to play can't attack, so the funniest (for your opponent) situation would be keeping 4 of your Watch Towers alive so Kargal can't even summon his full value of 4 Lookouts. And the dude is a 7 Mana 5/5 himself! Nah, pass.

  • With enough support cards this could actually be a decent card

    • Everything that Spark said here is what I scrolled down to type. Kargal Battlescar is an odd way to build a payoff. The watch posts aren't cheap. They're not Mogu Cultists. They're not even Weasel Tunnelers. They're relatively expensive to copy and they're tech cards.

While the flavor of summoning oodles of watch posts is top tier, the mechanics and payoffs of doing so are weirdly shaped. Hopefully we'll see more cards for this mini set - maybe in the mini set!

    • Gonna need some better Watch Posts than the ones we've seen so far. Maybe its a mechanic that persists through the year.

  • Without taunt, this card is wholly reliant on Animated Broomstick to actually make an impact on board. Its usage will depend highly on whether watch posts make the cut, and while I think that it will, Kargal Battlescar might still not see any play.

  • Eh. Looks like a late-game bomb whose detonation isn't all that worth it, because employing a watch post strategy seems incredibly weird. I'll be pissed off if I unpack this as one of my legendaries.

  • Summoning 5/5 minions is not entirely reliable, but it has proven to be viable in the past. [Hearthstone Card (Dragoncaller Allana) Not Found] saw play, so this could as well.

I think Watch Posts seem like a legitimately interesting archetype, although chances are we will need more if the deck can be viable.

  • Neat idea. These watch posts seem interesting. Just 1 or 2 good watch posts and this guy is good value on 7.

  • It will be definitely interesting to build a deck that relies on completely watch post synergy.

  • It's good, but the other watch towers aren't good enough to make the package worth playing.

  • Love the flavor, but it's one single payoff card in your deck that might give you a strong turn only if you've committed several weak turns earlier in the game. Not to mention, there's no immediate impact whatsoever. None of this stuff has taunt or rush, so you're just leaving your pants down way too often with this deck.

Isn't it interesting that Flamestrike is a 7-cost spell that now deals 5 damage to the enemy board?

  • Has potential, but the amount of watch towers so far is too low (and at least Crossroads Watch Post seems way too weak). As it stands, it's likely to see play only if Blizz makes it an achievement.

  • silence priest maybe?

  • This depends entirely on watchposts

  • This could be an 8-mana play with Broom.

If you managed to stay in the game with Watch Post or other shenanigans, maybe you find a turn to play this safely? I don't know, let's see.

  • Will see overtime I guess how this works out.

  • Hm, if it finds an achetype that can fit this along the watch posts in the deck, why not, otherwise it´s pretty useless legendary without the rest of the cards.

  • The watch post are good. This could find space in a deck. Is hs evolving?

  • too slow ... and the effect with no rush/ taunt is too weak

  • We will see more watchpost support and it will make sense then. For the time being seems too slow

  • gotte see the meta for this card, but i seems we need another watch post card

  • Dunno about this effect

  • We've only seen two Watch Posts so far. And tbh they are underwhelming

  • concept is similar to the Warlock legendary that can summon up to 6 minions with rush

  • Watch post  seems like good cards for a slower meta. But with every card seen and the core set it can see play .Why not?Love that we got new buildings in the game after so long ,the last one was a legendary .I want to see more in the future. This is just a great value card ,i can't wait to play it.

  • Could make for some kind of Swing Turn but im not convinced - seems to slow right now and of course depening if we will get more then the 2 revealed Watch Posts.

Right now i think this Watch Post idea is interesting but to weak.

  • Seems bad.

  • Neat effect, but really slow and takes a lot of set up for some 5/5s

  • Is this the first time we got a truly neutral archetype?

I mean, maybe there'll be some class Outposts, but just this alone might be good enough to be honest.

Either way, I'm kind of curious how many archetypes can build around this type of mechanic.

  • Least the legendary says summoned and not died. Still looks like a win more card to me, but would be delightfully surprised if there is a deck that makes the cut

  • Watch Posts decks?

    • Watch posts new meta Kappa

  • Honestly, not a great card. It makes you play specific tech cards, and in return you get a pile of stats that your opponent can quite often ignore.

  • maybe if we get another watchpost... and even then, i dont see this getting play

  • good card

  • Again: Amazig flavour but do not think it has potential. Nice meme though.

  • Will need better watch posts, and unless they decide to support this in a future expansion/bring more outposts in this one, I'm not impressed

  • Well, there's always a meme legendary in every expansion, guess we'll got to wait and see if more support is incoming, if not...

  • Watchtower decks sound like control decks. So a priest card! They even can be ressurected!

  • I don't know. The whole watch post thing seems like a meme to me right now. Not sold on this one. Seems too clunky

  • watch post are to bad to run them in any deck

  • Nice card, can be played in a control deck to make value. But with only 2 watch post it won't be enough, we at least need 3 to summon 6 5/5 at best. I also hope there will be more watch post synergy else this card alone will not make the archetype live.

  • Hmm interesting card. Seems kinda weak, BUT it could be a sleeper card? The watch posts we have seen so far are kinda annoying to remove, and have good stats. Also the meta IS slowing down from what i see, so the watchtowers might be a lot better because of that. I think that some of the watchposts might see play, but i'm not sure if including Kargal Battlescar is good enough.. YET. Kargal Battlescar MIGHT be bad/mediocre now, but im 100% sure were going to see alliance themed watch post cards in the next expansion, so that might make him better. And obviously probably some more watch towers in the 3rd expansion, i guess. I kinda like this watch post archetype though, seems fun to play.

Still the ability to throw down a LOT of stats is REALLY good and shouldn't be underestimated. After all, most Rogues/Mages use Jandice Barov in order to throw down a lot of stats. Don't sleep on Kargal Battlescar, he might be better than you think.

Edit: I have seen a lot of people compare Kargal Battlescar with Soulciologist Malicia, but remember: Neutral cards are often made intentionally weaker than class cards.

  • I doubt this will be competitive...

  • Combo cards nearly always find themselves in a funk deck somewhere

  • I doubt this will see any kind of competitive play, and I don't think blizzard intended for this deck to be played competitively. I think this will be fun to mess around with and find synergies for, but a "watch tower" deck will likely never be meta.

  • This seems meh at 1 pretty good at 2 and insane at 3 or more.  This is a great finisher for outpost decks but we need to see more of them.

  • If you manage to survive with 4 minions that doesn't do nothing, on turn 7 you can summon 25/25 on 5 bodies, so it's very risky. I think is more oriented to control decks

  • I don't think you can play both wathtowers in a single deck, both seem to do very dif things but I guess it can work.
Just dropping two 5s is good enough so I think this will see play in any deck that has watchtowers in them.

  • Seems interesting. I don't really think that the watch posts are going to be a thing in the end though unless we see more and all of them are solid. The two we have are made to counter entirely different game plans, so when one is good the other will usually be bad. Even then its sorta doubtful that they will be insane even in those ideal match ups.

  • I really like a neutral archetype like this. and the support cards are also good I think. will definately try it out if I get the luck to open the cards.

  • I guess? This card lives or dies based on if watch posts are worth running.

  • Chef Nomi saw play and his effect was also back breaking as you had to basically spend you mana to destroy your deck. I'm not saying Kargal Battlescar is amazing, I'm just saying he's not the worst thing ever.

And to the WoW guys around: are there any watch posts in alliance settlements? If there are, that could mean these watch post thingys aren't just a one and done deal.

  • Bet this is my freebie for logging in.

  • I will try to get this to work.

  • Yeah unless we get better watch posts this or next expansions, I don't think summoning 4 5/5s at max is super viable

  • Too bad tokens don't have Taunt/Rush. I really like turrets, but sadly this is not an exciting payoff for playing those slow cards.

  • Well i can't wait to see all the other posts they will print

  • Could be good on curve if you manage to play enough watch posts.

  • There aren't enough watch posts to make a whole deck with.

    Maybe Control Watch Post Priest

  • Good card. Watch Post synergy instead of Elementals

  • I don't like it too much, but since it say "summoned" instead of "played", maybe a Rally Priest can make used of it. The 10 mana combo is Kargal Battlescar followed by Mindbender Illucia for a board full of 5/5's that the opponent can't clear.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

I'm guessing there will be more support cause currently this is really bad, it's not like you can jam techs into your deck and win with a slow board.

  • If you've summoned 4 watch posts, this is a 7 mana 25/25. Seems fine.

  • Feels like a meme card with a nice theme.

It can be a fun deck build around, but I hard time seeing this being competitive. The payoff doesn't seem worth it.

  • Watch posts seem too slow..

  • interesting, will be fun to try out a outpost deck but not sure yet in which decktype / class this would fit.

  • The guy to make us play the Watch posts. I hope I'll open him, but i doubt he'll make the meta.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

    Meh.

Unless blizz reveal more watchposts that card isn't good.

  • For the MEMES!

  • Without more impactful Watch Posts this won't be a good card. Most of the time this will get himself and probably two other minions on board. There will probably be an achievement around him. I expect that will be the only reason to make a dedicated deck for him.

  • I think the watchpost decks will get some play, but I don't see them being particularly strong or top tier. Should be pretty fun though.

  • Fun flavor, but given the Watch posts I've seen, I don't see Watch post package becoming anything but a meme deck.

  • This seeing play is very dependent on the watch posts seeing play as the baseline stats suck.

  • not sure about this one

  • Meme, but a good one.

  • I dont think the watchposts are good enough to make this a viable deck tbh

  • I won't craft this card, but I wouldn't mind unpacking it. Anyone got an idea which class this Watch Post package is best suited in?

It's probably best to just play this on curve even if you've played only 2 or 3 Watch Posts by then. If you don't play this package as a tempo deck, I expect this package to perform even worse.

  • Hmm... i really hope to not find this legendary!

Probably there are great synergies, but i don't like the watchtowers

  • good

  • For the memes, I hope we can make a Watch Post deck work.

  • Watchpost payoff is...underwhelming. I like that the Watchposts have something that you want to build around, but the deck probably feels a bit too restrictive to build for you to have a lot of fun playing around with the archetype. As far as meme rankings go, I would put this below Toss Warlock but above Handbuff Hunter.

  • Combo with other watch posts makes watch posts decks reasonable.

  • The Watch Posts are looking really strong, and this might push them into a whole new archetype!

  • Surprisingly effective in Watch Post decks.

  • you need a lot to make this card worth

  • Maybe some decks will run one of the Watchposts, but none will run all 3 just to include this card.

  • Interesting idea, but the watch posts are not powerful enough on their own so including all of them just for this card will never work. Don't include all of them and this becomes too inconsistent. I don't think this package will work.

  • Big board potential, can be strong

  • Seems slow, but maybe a outpost deck can work.

  • Summon a bunch of Watch Posts and then use this as a finisher? But none of them can attack, so you need to force your opponent to want to get rid of them. Seems clunky and weird.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

Pretty slow. Maybe play animated broom stick, or give him/other dudes taunt, etc.

  • Not worth playing unless you play watch posts as well (obviously).  I think whether or not this will see play will depend entirely on how good the watch posts are, which I think we'll have to wait to see, although we won't be waiting very long since the expansion drops tomorrow!
