Are you enjoying HS now?

I’m just not having fun playing standard at the moment. The game is just an aggro fest and every deck’s only goal is face.

How do you guys have fun? Should I just switch to Wild which (shockingly) looks more healthy?

Same here, although I am not so sure it is due to current meta. I think the previous meta stuck around too long and has drained my overall enjoyment of playing Hearthstone. Do not get me wrong, the meta has improved quite a lot with the latest patch, control decks have returned and games last longer.

Winning games also feel less enjoyable than before which sounds strange.

Nowadays, I only do the bare minimum of completing daily/weekly quests and occasionally play a few games of Duels.

Perhaps switching up a few things like play Wild or another game mode for awhile could bring back some fun to you.

We will probably have to wait another month before the new mini-set arrives.

This is basically me, but swap Duels for Battlegrounds. I'm holding out for Mercenaries to reinvigorate me, 'cause in general my enjoyment of the Hearthstone "platform" has been on the decline over time. I'm right on the verge of quitting traditional-Hearthstone for Mercs: just have to see how I like the new game.

I wouldn't blame any particular meta-event or what-have-you for my woes - I don't care about the meta - but I imagine it's just a general PvP-fatigue, heightened by my depression.

Polarising metas usually kill the enjoyment for me, and we are currently in one such meta. But as long as I don't meet any quest mages my blood pressure stays relatively normal and the game remains bearable.

Its sad that the midset has been pushed back at least another 3 weeks, so we're pretty much stuck with what we have right now.

As Depperdog said, I really hate some decks. Quest mage, for example is something that causes me to turn off the game.

This definitely is not a good state of HS for me.

Wow, and I thought I was the only one who felt this way.  I agree with you Nebuchadnezzar and LinkBlade.  I sometimes find myself barely finishing my weekly quests these days.  I'm still hitting at least D5 or legend every month, but last month and this month I haven't had any real drive to get to legend.  The game just doesn't hold the same gloss it used to for me.  The previous meta with Quest Warlock was around for far too long, and I think the devs took too long making adjustments to the meta catastrophe.

I've been trying to play Legends of Runeterra as well, but it's also not as fun.  Overall I think the defining characteristic of card games has become too, I dunno...normal?  Rational? I'm not sure the word to use to define it.

Overall, I just don't find them as enjoyable as I used too.  I swap between modes daily, trying to fill in my free time but honestly I'm just counting the days until new games on my radar show up... (Namely Darktide, Jurassic World Evolution 2, and a few others)

I am enjoying HS as much as I normally do. I never worry about the (daily) quests because I can get to 100 on the battle pass without them and both pre-orders are enough to play whatever I want to anyways. I was a little disappointed when The Demon Seed was banned from wild because I was having a good time playing an altered version of the typical 4 giant version which I was able to get a 12 win streak with. To be honest, the game is most boring to me after I hit Legend. I have no reason to rank up anymore and I have already finished within the top 500 in wild before. I just wish there were more ways to have a competitive constructed experience.

This hasn't been my favorite meta either OP.  Didn't bother to hit Diamond last month and joined the dark side a bit to hit D5 and regain my star bonus this month.  Despite the downvotes, I've been enjoying this for ladder quests:

    Deck ID Not Found

Otherwise, I've had some fun in Casual with memes and have played more Arena and BG than usual.  Would love to see them try like a 2 - 3wk rotating labs mode with meta card bans to diversify the experience more.

I really don't understand how there's people who think a meta is nothing but aggro decks, every single meta.

Currently for every 'aggro' deck (pirate warrior, secret paladin, taunt druid, face hunter...) there are just as many 'slow' decks (libram paladin, big warrior, demon hunter shenanigans, Anacondra druid, quest shaman, quest warlock...).

So no, the standard meta seems completely fine right now and I wish I had more time to play it currently.

Wild, however, is dreadful. Warlock's two best decks got literally erased from the format with no way of coming back and there's just another warlock that pops up to dominate again. Paired with pirate warrior and odd hunter it's just an extremely boring format with only a few decks you'll ever see.

I haven't played much since the latest round of nerfs, so I can't say for sure whether I really like it or not. But in the few times that I did, I got pissed off quite a bit, especially when I queued against Questline Mages (though in the last time I played, I didn't face a single one, which was weird). That questline really needs a rework because it's just so boring and frustrating to play against, and it must be so boring to play too.

The pre-nerf meta wasn't as generally fun either, though I did enjoy playing the different decks with The Demon Seed and Command the Elements. The Warlock decks took some skill to play which I found fulfilling, despite knowing how much of a design mistake the questline really is.

So while I did enjoy several archetypes from the overall Stormwind meta, I had a bad taste in my mouth the whole time because of the terrible design direction the devs took for this expansion. Seriously, cards like Ignite, The Demon Seed, Command the Elements, Sorcerer's Gambit, Defend the Dwarven District, Battleground Battlemaster, and even Raid the Docks should never have been printed. They're all problematic for the health of the game because of their infinite value (looking at you, Ignite) and sure-win conditions (Warlock, Shaman, Mage, and Hunter questlines) and they're probably going to be power-crept in the future, which will lead to an even more frustrating meta.

Overall I have fun with HS right now.

I swap between Standard, Wild and Classic, so I can play a varity of decks against a varity of other decks. Only playing one game mode become kind of boring for me. In Standard I am Dia 2, in Wild Dia 9 and in Classic Gold 9 at the moment. The mode I least enjoy at the moment is Standard because of Quest Mage.

    I see you!

I'm just grinding achievements and doing daily/weekly quests in wild. It's much better since the warlock quest ban and there's some flavorful decks popping up here and there. I'm not really interested in winning, just want to get more gold for Mercs when it arrives in 2 weeks

I'm having quite a bit of fun right now. And i do swap between standard and wild quite often, just depending on what deck i feel like playing.

In standard i don't have fun whenever my opponent plays Sorcerer's Gambit Mage. But outside of that i have a good amount of fun against most other classes. And most "meta" decks are kinda fun to play. Personally i dislike aggro/tempo decks, but Raid the Docks warrior in standard is surprisingly fun! I'm also having a lot of fun rn with BIG warrior. BIG warrior is not that bad, mainly because The Demon Seed warlock has basically been deleted.

But most of my fun is in Wild. Wild is a lot of fun for me right now, mainly because we finally got wild back after the The Demon Seed got banned. I can actually play a control deck (Reno deck obviously) and actually have fun... and have a decent winrate, without being absolutely solitaire lvl crushed. I can actually play Bazaar Burglary Rogue (with Maestra of the Masquerade) and Casino Mage again! :) The only deck in wild i have a problem with is (ODD) Defend the Dwarven District Hunter, but luckely i don't actually see that deck that often. Mainly because Wild (at least, around my rank of gold 5) has a huge variaty of decks that people play. I played about 20 games today and yesterday in total, and never came across the same deck/archetype twice.

RNG is only fun as long as there is a 50/50 chance of getting something really good or trash level of bad. If RNG always results in something good, then it's not fun.

I'm a Wild-exclusive player, and the meta has been solid so far. While I do play some jank shit mostly revolving around C'Thun, the Shattered, including my Araña mage, it's still has been not that bad. My only gripe is that Questline Druid is pipsqueak weak now. Too bad I have never faced Questline Warlock, but I do think it's overall good riddance even though it had the Jade Druid-eqsue gameplay that's hard to replicate now.

That also means I never have to face Questline Mage, which people seem to hate with passion. Watching games from guys like Rarran and FunkiMonki, and it seems the Quest endorses so much hatred because of seemingly forced lack of interactivity to not progress their gameplan.

As previously stated, Questline Mage is that single deck that makes me enjoy standard much less.

I main Taunt Druid on standard and it's fun and competitive vs almost any other deck, but Questline mage always feels like an auto-loss.

Wild player here: I guess Wild is in a OK state right now. Could be better but overall not too bad. Since The Demon Seed nerf I see a lot more decks, even some Reno variants. People seem to be annoyed about Odd Quest Hunter a bit, but I personally find it is beatable by a variety of decks.

Btw: Quest Mage must be a standard thing. I hardly encounter any in Wild.

English is not my native language, so please excuse occasional mistakes

Well i can only speak for standard because i do not play wild but right now im still having lots of fun. But i also had fun before the nerfs even tough i ran into the same deck over and over ;)

Since the nerfs i've met a diversity of decks (and also played different decks) and almost all of the games we're pretty fun.

Also since the nerfs i quite enjoy Questline Warrior - played it from Plat 10 to Diamond 5.

So i for myself have fun :)

For me, this has been the least enjoyable meta since Gadgetzan. I hate playing combo decks and I find aggro boring, so I haven't had anything fun to do. The only time I even played this month was last Saturday to finally get the card back and some occasional tavern brawls.

As the years go on I've found it harder and harder to find a constructed deck that really calls out to me. One where you get obsessed with matchups and enjoy looking the list over and trying to sub in different cards.

Unfortunately it gets tiring to see same decks being played almost robotically where there is so little to no creativity open in them. Efficiency has taken the wheel from Interesting. Compare Jace Darkweaver to Shudderwock for example. One clearly invites more wonder into the game than the other.

I would really love if they targeted cards that are fan favorites in Wild and rly try to give them some help so they can actually be enjoyed.

It was cool during the first days, but after that it has become shit. You must be a masochist to play vs mage over and over again.

Games are annoyingly polarizing - win or lose, everything is decided by what you queue into and draw in first 3 turns. But you are trapped for much more.

People are crying over Wild, but that format and Classic are, ironically, 3X better than Standard, lol.

I'm currently playing LoR. Feels different and more interesting now.

No. I’m getting fed up.  I’ve played since open Beta and my enthusiasm has been dwindling for a couple years. I’m just so fed up with the shit.  Aggro, aggro, aggro, peppered in with Priest bullshit.

every time I play against that fucking quest priest bullshit, I want to strangle someone.  Literally wins from nonsense.  Discover another discover card into another until you find the perfect answer.  Last time, I faced a priest who played 4 fucking Soul Mirrors in addition to the shadow word deaths and hysteria’s.  Today, it was palm reading into renew into shadow word ruin killing my last 2 minions.  It isn’t skill it’s fucking bullshit

I played five games this morning and lost all five by turn 5 or 6 - nothing I could do, no counterplay, nothing. I wasn't even playing anything greedy - it's just the power creep has gotten so bad that every other game feels like a blowout. It all comes down to who gets to play their broken crap first. I've never felt less agency while playing the game, and for the first time since I started playing I'm seriously thinking of quitting.

You must be the only person so far whos actually complaining about quest priest. Unless you're running aggro decks like taunt druid, there's simply no way for quest priest to win outside of a massive misplay, because nearly every deck in standard currently destroys slow decks like this one.

Then I cant see why you're complaining because quest priest only farms these decks. Plus, quest priest is hardly a scourge of the current meta; you'll be lucky to even meet one.

If it makes you feel better, quest mage, which is currently one of the highest played deck in the meta, destroys quest priest with both hands tied behind its back. So if priest is making you feel miserable, you'll be glad to know its getting regularly destroyed whenever its played.

This is just so untrue. There's even several top wild players who are moving to standard because wild is so boring, in big part due to odd hunter.

Standard has one polarizing deck currently and that's mage. Which loses to about half of the current meta decks, and there are a lot of different decks viable right now.

I really don't think it's possible for me to have fun with these questlines so prominent. I can play some Battlegrounds, but playing the actual game just feels awful most of the time, and I usually end up conceding early on if they play a questline and get off to any kind of decent start. It's juts not fun at all for me, in any way, and I find myself angry at the other player, and at the makers of the game for ruining one of my few hobbies.

There is no good counter against "combo-control-aggro" all-in-one quest mage. they just clear the board, ping your face then close the quest and finish you with a lot of damage.

In contrast I am trying to play quest priest which could easily benefit from a little buff.

Quest steps being 2,3,4 5,6 7,8 don't leave much choice but to play slow and control.

The quest can't be closed before turn 11 with a perfect curve and regardless of what opponent does...

Against aggro this is just suicide..not to forget also the watch posts just hurt your hand more than with any other deck!

Say priest quest costs steps should go 2,3-4,5-6,7 instead, then the quest would still not complete until turn 10 AT BEST but essentially you wouldn't have to play stupid turn 8 cards, and could go a little more mid.

Of course, that and also nerf that stupid mage quest?

I would suggest for Mage Quest either only +2 permanent spell dmg bonus, or maybe just add extra requirement to cast one Fel spell for every level (see what I did there?)

While I have had some days of really getting frustrated with this game, overall I am still having fun with the game, yes!  If you aren't having fun you may wonder, "How?"  Well, frankly I'm playing in the Diamond ranks and I just play whatever I feel like playing while not being too concerned about how high I climb beyond Diamond 10.  Diamond 5 is kind of my big goal for the month, but not Legend.  I've gotten it a few times so I have my card back, and I'm not trying to go pro here, so I just play fun stuff.  If I get matched up against an unfun deck?  I will try but likely just concede and move on it it's unwinnable!

In all honesty, the QL Mages must be in ranks above me because I haven't noticed them much.  The same for Wild and Even Locks, it's a really good deck but I'm not seeing it much.  The QL Hunters are everywhere, but I've been beating them okay with my Even Totem Shaman.  I've also been surprising a few people in Standard lately with a Hero Power Mage deck because they are probably basing their mulligan off of the expectation I'll be QL Mage.  Overall the deck is 9-10, but after some refinement the last nine games were 6-3.  Only faced two Mages so far with it and I'm 1-1.  Going for a bit of a Tempo deck with few spells and a couple cards that focus on drawing spells to try and guarantee I find one or both Wildfires each game.

To summarize, fun is subjective and if the meta goes against what you find subjectively fun it's going to suck for you unfortunately.  But if you try to just relax, not get too serious about grinding and ladder climbing, I bet you can still find something fun about the game.  If you can't, maybe it's time to take a break.

While I may still be having a fun time overall, I'm also excited for Mercs to bring in a fresh new game mode that I might actually enjoy playing this time.  Something to break up the monotony of constructed for the times I do get frustrated, because I'm not a Duels guy, I'm too cheap to risk gold on Arena runs, and BGs is also not my cup of tea (but still what I turn to when I want to play Hearthstone but need a Constructed break).

Quick!  Someone give me something clever to write here.

No, not really enjoying HS right now. I like to play a LOT of different decks, and I like big impactful cards. Unfortunately in the current metagame, a huge part of my (pretty large) collection is unplayable.

I used to play every evening. Now I mostly play dailies. When I do play, I just quickly get legend, so I can play some off-meta fun stuff in dumpster legend.

However, where dumpster legend was always a safe place for off-meta, I meet way too many of the linear try-hard decks now (hyper aggro, quest mages etc.). There is very little space for my personal preferred playstyle atm.

Potential solution would be to quick rank up to Diamond 10/5, then play whatever you want, and if you want Legend make the push in the last week/days of the month with meta decks again.

A lot of the Wild streamers especially often stay in the Diamond ranks if they can because it allows them to get some good highlight wins with off meta stuff for their YouTube channels.  Roffle specifically was Diamond his last stream of September, then his first sign in on stream in October it showed he achieved Legend rank because he grinded some meta deck off stream.  Might seem tedious, but could be the solution to not getting completely burnt out on the game in the long run.

Honestly, the only time I've been like "I must get Legend" was when I got close unintentionally and figured I may as well make the push.  Especially after the first time and getting the card back.  Also to get the free Legendary for reaching the mark after the revamp.  Other than that, I live by this philosophy as well.  It's how I am able to spend my time playing Even Totem Shaman in Wild, Hero Power Mage in Standard (which, the Tempo based version I've got right now... getting some surprising wins!), among other stuff.  I keep trying Metamorphosis OTK in Wild for DH, but it's just too slow!  The DH QL could MAYBE get you there, but the issue is the format itself is too fast for a combo like that.  Same with a Malygos Warlock!  Takes too much set up.

But yeah, I just get that minimum rank into the Diamond 10, maybe D5, and then play what I want and try out weird and wacky shit for kicks.

Quick!  Someone give me something clever to write here.

I been playing since beta back in 2014, yeah I have the golden Mekkatorque, with more than 20k wins between ranked, arena and duels, and more than 1k top4 in BGs. So yeah, i am a whale and HS is my main game/hobby/whatever.

Its the first time since I started playing the game that I insta concede vs mage, i can’t handle that bullshit anymore, i just I can’t, i always tried to win even when i had a disfavored match, just forcing myself, ok dude do your best and try, but vs mage if you dont play hyper aggro it’s pointless.

I've only been playing hs for about 3 years now.  I've looked at some of the quests from before I started playing from the ungoro expansion, and the quests from ungoro seem more powerful than the current ones...? Is that to be expected or do you guys think that the current quests are more powerful than previous ones?

The current quests are way more powerful than the Un'Goro ones, with the exceptions of The Caverns Below and Open the Waygate which both fit neatly into the 'play aggro or die to the quest reward' meta the Stormwind questlines have created. Given what Wild is doing now, maybe even they are outclassed.

Direct comparisons with most quests is tricky when they have different effects, but it is telling that Raid the Docks' reward outclasses Lakkari Sacrifice by an embarrassing amount in every way, and is much easier to complete. It is also more rewarding on the way. And Raid the Docks isn't even one of the strong ones (in Standard). Granted, Lakkari Sacrifice was always weak, but the degree of power creep exhibited here can't be ignored.

Overall, most Un'Goro quests took a similar amount effort to complete as the Stormwind ones, without the rewards along the way, and with a final reward that is good but rarely game ending. On average, Queen Carnassa ends up summoning maybe 1 'free' 3/2 every turn, for example, while Galvadon might end up doing nothing at all.

Maybe if the questlines didn't have rewards along the way you could consider it a fair fight? The Un'Goro ones might win then, but those first 2 stages should not be ignored.

Definitely not. The Un'goro quests' power levels pale in comparison to the Stormwind ones overall, since the latter has a lot more quests that are game-winning and meta-defining. You could only say that for The Caverns Below and maybe Open the Waygate in Un'goro, but even those two quests necessitated very strict deckbuilding restrictions unlike the Stormwind quests. There are 4 Stormwind quests that approach and even surpass The Caverns Below in terms of power level and polarity:

The Demon Seed - Using your fatigue against your opponent as a win condition is straight-up broken. As long as some competitive deck using this questline exists, control and value decks won't stand a chance in that meta. It freaking broke Wild, for crying out loud.

Command the Elements - Having an aura effect that double-casts your spells is an instant win condition most of the time. I played this deck a lot pre-nerf and the broken plays it allowed me to pull off was ridiculous, and even post-nerf it's still competitive.

Defend the Dwarven District - Giving the Raza machine gun to a class that already loves to go face was a terrible idea from the start. This quest has been wreaking havoc in Wild from day one, and it's semi-competitive in Standard too.

Sorcerer's Gambit - Simply a plain, boring design that is completely unfun to play against. As long as Mage has enough burn spells, why should Blizz ever print minions for this class again? In Kibler's latest video, he got burned down for lethal in a single turn when he was at 37 health. That'll piss anyone off.

The other Stormwind quests aren't as problematic...yet. Seek Guidance, whose win condition is literally to destroy the opponent, is a few buffs and support away from becoming the most frustrating quest. Raid the Docks is probably the most fun quest to play and play against, but it poses its own problems too especially in Wild, as it gives Pirate Warrior infinite fuel in the late game which is unfair to give an aggro deck. Final Showdown was frustrating to play against too for a time. Find the Imposter is the only balanced quest in the set.

Simply put, the Stormwind questlines are probably some of the worst-designed cards in HS history, or at the very least they're some of the most polarizing. They've sapped away a lot of joy I had for this game to the point that I only play once a week now, mostly because I fear that they'll continue to influence future expansions and create even more frustrating metas.

Thonson's thoughts earlier in the chain sum up well how I feel - I am definitely still having fun with the game.

Diamond 5 is my "goal" each month in Wild and Standard - anything past that is just gravy (I've made legend about a dozen times over the years). I play a few hours of battlegrounds a week, don't touch duels or arena (too cheap to "risk gold"), but I have a large enough collection to switch things up every day in constructed if I need to. The key for me is not taking it too seriously, and finding a comfortable rank floor where I don't mind getting stomped on once in a while. I really enjoy the collecting aspect of the game, I love incrementally adding to my collection, and I am really looking forward to mercs as a new mode next week

I'm largely bored of the game.

Libram Paladin is good, but it's old.

Face/Quest Hunter are good, but again, old.

Taunt Druid is fun, but it can highroll so hard it feels dirty.

I don't understand why Quest Mage isn't nerfed. They have more card draw and shuffle than Rogue or DH.

I've felt this way a few times before (bored of decks); like when highlander Hunter was the only viable archetype for like... 2 years. Yawn. For me, it's the powercreep in all the mana cheating, which enables all the solitaire decks. All that stuff they moved to Hall of Fame, and I don't think any would be played today except maybe Ice Block.
