In an e-mail sent to its subscribers, Stormgate developers Frost Giant Studios have put together a lot of new information - some new, some very recent - that's sure to brim some excitement to those of us waiting for the promising RTS to release!
Alpha Test Recap
The second alpha phase has concluded, with the next one set to begin very soon. Here's a recap of the most important points in the video they released (below):
- Co-op vs. AI mode coming later this year to playtests.
- The game has been performing very well, exceeding expectations.
- The next alpha test will have triple the amount of playtesters.
- The next alpha test will also have the Infernal Host faction available for testing!
- The rest of the video contains lots of gameplay footage as well as some "unit vs. unit" segments that are worth seeing!
Rollback Netcode Works!
We previously reported that Stormgate is testing out rollback netcode, and it seems the system has been quite effective! You can check out playtesters' responses in this TwiXtter thread, and we've selected a couple to showcase here:
Faction #2: The Infernal Host!
The Infernal Host, as mentioned above, will be testable in the next alpha phase, and Frost Giant Studios have graced us some nice, juicy art of the Flayed Dragon, a fearsome flying unit part of the Infernal Host's arsenal:
They've also released a gif of the Spriggan! You find out more about this bloodthirsty mosquito in the video linked below:
The studio released a video a few weeks ago that gives a little more insight into the Infernal Host. It's definitely worth a watch:

That flayed dragon artwork is siiiiiick! Definitely going infernal host as my main faction when the game comes out
Now hang on a minute, we haven't even seen the third faction yet!
There's a 3rd faction? 😱 Oh wow, now I'm really keen.
But I did read somewhere that the infernal host faction was based on the Starcraft Zerg faction and that was my main faction when I played SC frequently. But still keen to see all the units per faction.
If the Infernal Host runs anything like the Zerg, I'll be out of my depth playing it for the entire game's lifespan hehe!
I never really 'got' how to play Zerg because in the Heart of the Swarm campaign in SC2, even on high difficulties, I just needed Kerrigan to win the game lol
