Confirmed this evening by Riot's AlphaLvSim on reddit, if you were planning on hoarding your precious resources until the next card set drops, you're good to go!
- There are no plans to limit how many wild cards and shards you can obtain before the next set.
- No ninja changes to resources you already own is important. If they ever do want to make changes, they'll be communicated.
What are your plans going forward? Are you planning on saving up so you can invest into the next set heavily or are you aiming to fully complete set 1?
Quote From Riot_AlphaLvSim It would be nice if we had some word from Riot about how future sets will be handled regarding the economy.
Hey there! Hopefully I can take some worries off your mind: we have no plans to limit your resources before the next set drops.
On top of that, if we make any future changes on how you can use your resources, we would not spring them as a surprise on players. (Source)
Any thoughts on changing the old wildcards and shards into a "legacy" version which can only buy old cards that slowly converts to normal resources on a weekly basis?
We have thought about "legacy" systems like that, but we were not confident, at least for now, that we could build one that would feel good to players.
Overall, we want to make sure that we respect the resources that players have worked hard to earn, so we are extra careful any time we think about modifying the stuff you have. (Source)

Personally, I'm neither looking to complete my collection of the base set at all cost, not do I plan to save up a lot for the 1st expansion. I simply don't use my crafting materials until I absolutely want a specific card (or further copies of said card) for a deck I'm building. So depending on how many different decks I feel like crafting over the next couple of weeks/months, I may end up with very few or a lot of crafting materials once the expansion arrives.
If they were planning on changing resources, paying players would have no reason to buy any more weekily wildcards, starting approximately this week.
If you have been buying Champion cards every week and paying coins for three Expeditions weekly, you are very close to having every Champion by now. Factor in all the inevitable Champions you'll get as you unlock all the regions, and you're basically there. So if you bought a big pile of coins at the start to support the game and you're about to run out, don't worry! You don't need them anymore! At least now we know you can keep buying wildcards and stock up for future use if you want to.
Also, if you've been playing a lot, you may be to the point where you're getting more shards than cards in your rewards, because you get so many extra copies. Now you don't need to worry about what you'll do with all of those shards as they continue to accumulate.
Still, it would be nice if there were some cosmetic rewards we could spend shards on. Even if they have separate bling for coins and shards, I'd buy both.
What does a new set do about the standard collection in LoR? Is it like standard mode in HS, where old set are removed and only playable in another specific mode ?
each new set will introduce a new region + champions for all other regions, right now there is now standard/wild modes any new card will be played in all modes: expditions, ranked, etc.
i cant wait for competive scene i love hearthstone i always do but competive scene hs is close to dead atm
Anyone knows when the next set is gonna be? I hope at least not till summer, i barely have half a region unlocked ;(
Nothing has been officially announced to the public, but some people have theories.
FYI, you might be better off trying to get every region to 8 (the first free champion) rather than trying to go all the way to 20. The reward-to-XP ratio is much better that way.
I started getting them to 8, and now I'm focused on getting them each to 16 (the second Champion Capsule). Between daily PvP bonuses and daily quests you can usually knock out a level per day until you get to around 13.
Glad to hear it.
Swimstream kept saying in his channel that he was "100% sure they couldn't POSSIBLY let you carry wildcards over", and that just made zero sense to me. Maybe because he thought Riot had some type of design philosophy against letting players' deck collections grow too suddenly? Except realistically, they're already letting you buy 3 champion wildcards a week plus 3 expedition tokens plus giving free champions out fairly generously with the region rewards and (if you're lucky) vaults so I couldn't figure how preventing players from using existing wildcards would make an inch of difference in the grand scheme of things.
