Full Art Cards, A New Hearthstone Reward.
Hello everyone, I'm back again with another concept. This one will not be as long as all of my other ones and should make for a quick read.
This one is pretty straight forward and again, if there is anything that you'd like to add or are confused about, please don't hesitate to leave a comment.
If you've played physical Magic: The Gathering, then you probably know exactly where I'm going with this.
Magic: The Gathering has something that fans like to call "Full art cards".
And I thought why not try not to find a way to introduce it into hearthstone?
Please forgive the fact that the cards don't have an Attack or Health indicator, Hearthcards.net can only do so much.
So now we must ask the question, how are these obtainable?
I suggest for free, but not without effort!
But before we get into how we obtain these, let me just clear a few things up real quick.
In the collection manager these cards will stand out on their own after their "Vanilla" copies.
These are intended to be a long term investment, similar to the 500 and 1000 win portraits.
Each Full Art card will have it's own unique or semi-unique requirement in order to obtain it.
These cannot be opened in packs nor can they be crafted or disenchanted, please ignore said buttons pictured.
In order to obtain these cards you must complete the card's requirement
As above states, draw 1000 cards with Acolyte of Pain's ability and you will obtain both copies of the full art version.
Some requirements SHOULD be harder than others.
There will also be Golden versions that require more of the same requirement.
Not every card deserves a full art version, I think doing it for more notable cards would be best.
Here's a few examples of some Full Art Cards.
Embiggen: Play 1000 minions affected by this spell.
Ysera Unleashed: Draw 1000 Dragons Portals.
Archmage Antonidas: Cast 1000 Fireballs created by this minion.
Khadgar: Summon 1000 extra copies of minions with this minion's ability.
Shirvalla, the Tiger: Play this minion for 0 mana 1000 times.
Activate the Obelisk: Win 500 games after you've completed this quest.
Northshire Cleric; Draw 500 cards with this minion's ability.
Edwin VanCleef: Play this minion with it's combo activated 1000 times.
Pogo-Hopper: Trigger this minion’s battlecry enough to obtain +1000/+1000 in total.
Hagatha the Witch: Play 1000 cards generated from this card's Hero Power.
Armorsmith: Gain 1000 armor from this minion's ability.
Clockwork Goblin: Force your opponent to draw 500 bombs from this minion's Battlecry.
Dr. Boom, Mad Genius: Use this cards hero power 1000 times.
Hellfire: Deal 1000 damage with this spell.
Twisting Nether: Destroy 1000 minions with this spell.
Hakkar, the Soulflayer: Force your opponent to draw 1000 Corrupted Bloods.
Genn Greymane: Win 1000 games with this minions ability active.
Sylvanas Windrunner: Steal 1000 enemy minions with this minion's Deathrattle.
Some of those numbers seem high and I'm sure some of them are and maybe some of them aren't high enough.
The point was to illustrate what kind of requirements cards could have.
This is what it would look like with these cards in game.
You've played them enough to know what they do so they will be textless in hand.
When on the battlefield, your opponent will see the "Vanilla" version of it to prevent confusion.
That's really it for this post.
I'm sure other people have thought of this as well I just wanted to put my interpretation out there.
Anyway if you have questions feel free to ask.
Thank you for reading,
-Grif

Twitch for those of you who care.
I moved your thread to the Custom Hearthstone forum since it is "fan created content" and fits really well here - the forum isn't just for custom cards!
Keep being awesome, griffior. I would love to see full art cards in the game so much and tying it to play requirements sounds like it could be a lot of fun.

i would replace the card requeriment to "play this card 1000 times" to obtain a regular full art card and 2000 times to a golden one in order to simplify and allow this format to every card. i'm also curious of how these type of card look like on the board. will they have a square shape?
I think it would be best if they maintain the oval shape that we’re all familiar with. Keeping it simple would be the best way to approach it. That’s why if you were to play these, the opponent would see the “Vanilla” version of the card

This is so awesome, i love this concept! Its also a way to introduce some kind of achievement system to the game
Would really love it if the Devs let players somehow view the full Art of every Card. Like, going to the Collection Manager and simply clicking on the Card to see the entirety of the Pic instead of just a Close-Up.
I also like your approach to it. Artist would have to change how they approach the pieces in terms of composition and format (as far as I know rn they usually do whatever they want and Blizz just frames it), but that shouldn't be a big Deal. The Thing I'd change though would be the Unlocking as a whole. As much as I like the Art, playing a Card 1000 TIMES is just way too much. I think a simple on/off Option would be better. That Way every Card could have full Art.
The Art is imo one of the most appealing Things of any Card Game. Why Blizzard hasn't done anything with it really is honestly beyond me.

Lovely concept!
Basically this could work as a reward system for Achievements.
The fact the opponent would always see the vanilla version is a necessary safeguard for playability at all times.
They could even think of going beyond the bare full-art, with arts just partially overlapping their frames, as if they were emerging from them.
I don't like it, it will clutter your collection, also 1000 times is a lot of times..
Would rather have achievements with real rewards, have no interest in full arts, specially since you can view them online.
You still get 100 gold for completing the classic set lol.
Oh my god this would be so nice! Such a great idea! Your idea to keep them vanilla on board is vital for the concept to have a chance because of new players. I really hope this idea gets through to the devs.
I notice I am confused. Something I believe isn't true. How do I know what I think I know?

A toggle on/off button would be enough.
Well, better would be alternate art cards.
Of course, to have them easily recognisable, alternate art should show the same character but maybe different pose or drawing style.
Or maybe alternate arts on spells only, so minions will still be recognisable.

"It would confuse new players" - Blizzard's excuse for everything.
The collection manager currently needs some kind of overhaul IMO. Like I shouldn't be seeing a regular and golden copy of a card, it'd be nice if they were on the same screen when you clicked the card. Also if you wanted, you could disenchant the "Vanilla" version of the cards once you've earned the full art versions.
The numbers can be played with, I just threw those out there as an example. But I do feel that these should not be easy to obtain, these are free after all.
We need achievements, period. Viewing full art in card form has its' appeal to certain people, if you don't find it interesting that's fine.
It's be nice to earn some sort of reward if you completed card sets as well.

amazing idea!
Sorry if I'm a jerk for bringing this up, but, uhm... Mythgard does this. Regular and Prestige cards (which are full art like you described, btw) can be fused together while in the collection and deck builder, and if you double click/tap on it, there's an option to toggle between them (for crafting). The game also adds the prestige version of the card automatically of you have it (sadly, it doesn't replace it with a regular copy if you decide to dust it).
An amazing idea.
Its practically is somewhat diminished by the fact that spells use a landscape border for their artwork, and minions use a more portrait-shaped border. This is still fantastic effort on your part, though.
You know what I think the achievements don't need to be tied to playing that card but in general(like draw X cards in priest to get the northshire) and then you could get alternate art which is quite more interesting.. and gold/packs to go with them (with the achievements). I know I wouldn't appreciate this kind of reward much but I think I sounded quite mean.. your ideas are great, I like reading it but we will see what blizzard actually does this year in a few days.. there won't be systematic changes until next year..
I think it's cool, but as has been noted you'd have to be careful with spells because they use landscape art versus the portrait art of the minions.
What I don't like are the comments suggesting the use of alternative art; I know Magic the Gathering has multiple variants for reprints and the like, but I don't believe Hearthstone needs to get into that murky water. Just keep the game simple/clean and use the original art.
One of my favorite things in MtGA is the art, in all its variations, so I would love the ability to have full art cards in Hearthstone, nd the fact that they would be earned is even better. However. . .I've lost track of how old this game is now, but I've been playing the thing since before Naxx and GvG, and the idea that NOW I have to play Edwin 1000 more times to get full art just sounds exhausting. I have a job and stuff, and most my playing is in bursts before work or some free time on the weekends. I hate to say it, but I think this particular plan would actually somewhat ruin the game for me, knowing that after all these years of playing I'll never really be able to earn something I'd actually want to have - it already bothers me that some cardbacks are essentially unobtainable.
On the whole though, the idea of full art cards sounds great - earnable tokens to be used on cards to "transform" them into full art versions perhaps, via tournament modes or TB achievements, or ever thru Battlegrounds, just to integrate the whole experience.
