If you interpret this as being a random 1 cost minion with “Battlecry: Add a random 1 cost minion to your hand”, then it seems better than Fire fly. Theres even more upsides, such as allowing you to choose which of the two to play and counting as a spell. This seems like a really good card.
0 mana spells should always be looked at carefully, but this one just seems mediocre.
The comparison to fire fly is probably correct, except that this card cannot fit into odd decks, so maybe this goes into some sort of spell-based paladin?
I can't imagine running this in an aggressive deck.
This post is discussing the wild format.
Interesting card. To me this seems like a easy 5 star, purely because 0 cost cards are always something to be carefull off. Considering it says "random drops" does this mean even class ones? Like can this give you, for example: a mage 1 drop? Or is it just paladin/netural 1 drop? In case it's only Paladin/neutral 1 drop, it's not that good of a effect. This is a very.. interesting card.
RNG is only fun as long as there is a 50/50 chance of getting something really good or trash level of bad. If RNG always results in something good, then it's not fun.
Really, really good. No more 1-drop problems for pally!
easily triggers spell burst adds possibly good units considering what we've seen so far, and synergizes with some of paladin's little spells effects.
Self proclaimed good at battlegrounds
Relatable, flavorful, and has a great chance to work with decks like mech and Librium pally.
Official Lorekeeper and Spinner of Tavern Tales
This will get nerfed to 1 mana, guaranteed
TREMBLE before.... the most legendary dragon that ever existed!
About the card: I am divided between "good trigger for spellburst effects" and "too much random weak 1 drops out there to be good in aggro deck, but who knows"
About the artwork: I am really confused. The short one is a gnome or a "young" dwarf, but the tall one is what exactly - a sith?

Guaranteed turn 1 play, immensly helpful for Pure Paladin (they really only have Zealot and the occasional Libram-girl as 1-drops. This helps them so much with efficiently playing Hand of Adal)
I tried having fun once.
It was awful.
That's a lot of value for 0 mana.
0 mana cards are dangerous. I wouldn't be surprised if this gets nerfed to 1 mana. I am not saying this is too OP or poorly designed, it is just a lot of value for 0 mana. It can be both a good turn 1 play, or a good turn 2 play, or just a really handy way to round out your turn later in the game. If paladin ever is a good class in the meta, it will be partly because of this card.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
Absolutely absurd. Will be the best card in Paladin almost guaranteed and could be one of the best cards we’ve ever seen in Hearthstone. In a class that loves getting anything on board, 1 drops are at a massive premium, so they aren’t worth that much less than a normal card. With that in mind, this is just Pot of Greed. Think about Crystology. That was the best card in Paladin for a long time. This allows you to play the 1 drop you get on t1 rather than having to pass back and still gets you the same volume of cards. Sure, the cards might not be as powerful because they’re random, but the tempo advantage is HUGE. I
Excellent for Pure Paladin to get neutral fodder. And for the sidequest that needs 5 minions to play.
0 mana card that refills. But its a poor card that will likely see play only because there's little else that gives resources to paladin. Two 1 drops, at random, is really not the kind of thing you want to put into your deck, and 0 mana cards are harder to abuse in paladin.
Maybe there's some Exotic Mountseller stuff you can do with this, along with the Libram of Wisdoms, but from my own experience, its not really worth the bother.
I much rather just put and play the 1 drop I need in most cases. Still, it helps out with the early game, which is something paladin needs desperately. That it can also fit into a pure deck is a good bonus.
There are some pretty good 1-drops, including the new Frazzled Freshman. This card certainly has potential in aggressive decks and maybe in Pure/Libram just to have early plays more consistently.
I am hoping to see a lot of Angry Chicken paladins
Strange card, 0 mana generate 2 is nice. Especially for spell burst. However one drops are a mixed bag.
Handbuff buff? :)
Casual Dragon Cardgame enthusiast.
0 mana spells are generally bonkers, but ignoring weird shenanigans with Kael'thas Sunstrider I think this will boost incredibly murloc paladin again.
Don't know what to think about this... There are a lot of good 1-drops, especially non-neutrals, but this card will be inconsistent at it's best. You want this in your mulligan or not at all.
Hey, Paladin needed more 1-drops other than Aldor Attendant lol
Jokes aside, something tells me Hand Buff Paladin support is incoming.
Is there a tempo-midrange paladin yet? Seems like this year's schtick.
Clearly this fixes the problem Pure Paladin had with a lack of 1-drops. Also might serve as a decent board reload in a weenie rush type deck.
It's a very strong card.
in a meta with strong 1 drops getting 2 for the price of nothing is a fantastic deal.
as others have pointed out it also synergies with spellburst spectacularly as well.
And more 0 mana cards. "Crystology" for free. Team 5 never learns it seems.
Elders Scrolls : Legends / Runeterra
This card can add amazing consistency curvewise and boardwise. That being said, I don't like it. Not because it's weak (it's actually really a really good card), but because this kind of RNG swings this early in the game can lead to a lot of frustration. But, since Paladin seems like it's the only fair class in standard right now, this card will most likely end up being ignored (even considering how good it can be) unless more support for aggro Pally or more proactive options for midrange builds show up.
Btw, here's a list of outcomes this card can pull that we know (most of my ratings for these outcomes will be first impressions, they might not be very accurate, so feel free to make your own judgements).
Generally good cards:
Total: 22 (32,35%)
Cards that can be good depending on the situation you’re in, but overall aren’t as good:
Total: 24 (35,30%)
Cards with decent stats but not much more (basically all 1/3 and similar cards):
Total: 5 (7,35%)
Overall bad cards:
Total: 17 (25%)
So, overall each card given by First Day of School has a 75% chance of being atleast decent, and you only have a 6,25% chance of getting two bad cards (if Disciple of Galakrond isn't on the pool, the chance of getting a bad card is slightly lower).
Rating cards on coolness factor rather than predicting power because I like screwing up rating averages (and because I suck at predicting real power levels, but we'll ignore that LUL)
Wins per class (2/6/22): DH-197; Druid-996; Hunter-91«60; Mage-1056; Paladin-1126; Priest-746; Rogue-961; Shaman-1095; Warlock-871; Warrior-906
Very strong, Pure Paladin needs more one drops and this is two at the same time. It's like a better Fire Fly, a card that was insanely strong.
(0) mana cards are dangerous, but Paladin needs a significant boost right now
Struggle with Heroic Galakrond's Awakening? I got your back :
I'm not sure where this card will fit in; perhaps the rest of the Paladin set will make this more obvious. That said, 0-mana spells are Dark Horses. This could end up being a fantastic value-generator. On the flip-side, it might just be meh. After Turn 4/5, this is probably a dead draw.
Started playing HS in May, 2015. The bad news: I missed the excitement of 'Naxx out?' and GvG. The good news: I never met an Undertaker.
Imagine getting Wand Thief off of this, with the Combo pre-activated.
"The screen door slams, Mary's dress sways"
I think this is a very good card - never underestimate 0 Mana cards :)
Could also be some sort of buff for Kael'thas Sunstrider

Oh yeah, that will happen sooner or later. Ouch.

I am having a hard time picturing a world in which this card doesn’t get nerfed. It just seems like an insane amount of value for 0 mana, and if there’s a strong Paladin archetype in the post expansion meta, this card will likely be enabling it in part.
it will be nerfed soon ... too good
I am 69 years old and still reach Legend
Strong Card for sure. This can ensure: a turn 1 play, the activation of Spellburst, some interaction with Kael'thas Sunstrider , some extravalue for agro paladin decks
I rate this one high, such a good value, but idk if u draw this later in the game.
I’d think there’s too many bad 1 drops for this to ever be that great
Who needs consistency when you could have fun?
First Day of School is effectively a 1-drop and a 2-drop in one card, just like how Fire Fly served this purpose in tempo decks of its time. Also can have some mid-to-late game utility with Kael'thas Sunstrider since its a 0-mana card that could cheat out spells like Lay on Hands and Libram of Hope. In conclusion, a very solid tempo card that I think easily replaces Imprisoned Sungill in Libram Paladin and has some shenanigan potential.
For glory, honor, and gold!
As a Guy who played a lot of The Marsh Queen, let me tell you that random 1-Drops are terrible.
The only Time this is be good are T1, 2 and maaayyybe 3. Outside of that, it's a bad Topdeck becaus the Minions you'll get will have almost no Impact.

You wouldn't mind getting a Frazzled Freshman off this , would you?
"Be excellent to each other." -Bill and Ted
Good for triggering spellburst
Great spellburts activator
Lemushki - The one and only since the 2006 rebranding.
Good with Spellburst, Pure Paladin can run this easily, because there are actually a decent amount of good 1 drops right now.
This card is really really really good.. first of all it's a better [Hearthstone Card (firefly) Not Found], you get on average better than 1/2, secoundly it activates spellburst effects.
also this goes well into duel paladin where you can't play early minions..
I think there's no paladin deck which won't play it in the next 1.5 years.
I like the name of the card but there it ends. Why is it a paladin spell and why does it add 2 1 cost minions to your hand?
Zero cost cards are good
-=alfi=-
A handy spellburst activator, good for pure paladin, reliable way to have a drop for turn 1 in order for [Hearthstone Card (Hand of A’dal) Not Found] or a Libram on T2, good synergy with the Paladin side quest.
All in all a favourable card that I think will find a decent slot in many decks.
It's basically a better firefly + spellburst activation + the 1 drops have an ability + you can choose which one you play first. One of the strongest cards in the set
Spellburst activator and value generator. Paladin will run this.
Free card that gives you things to play, the 0 mana makes it great for early game and tokken decks
All hail the banshee queen.
Seems really strong, but I don't know if will actually see much play just because turn 1 is rarely critically important such that you have to hit a solid 1-drop, especially if they are randomly generated.
Maybe even Paladin falls in love with this card?
Better than Fire Fly. Awesome card.
Excellent cards, also being 0 mana is no hurting your mana and curves very well in lots of situations.

Spellburst to your heart's content. Or at least you wound if Paladin's spellbursting cards were better or at very least, more numerous. Anyway, it's 2 little dudes for 0, Paladin can always use those as fodder.
It's good if you're going for the 1-cost style deck, I guess?
Thanks to denial, I'm immortal.
New tool for a Rider of Apocalypse OTK
I think you might be correct.
Randomized Crystology (kind of)!
Quick! Someone give me something clever to write here.
That card fits a lot of archetypes.
Refill for aggro and early cards for pure/big.
Nice card.
By The Holy Light!
Not sure if it'll see much play, but it's quite a good card to get off a Discover effect.
I think this might be a sleeper hit of the set? Like a lot of people seem to think it's good, but I think this is going to be insane. It feels like Fire Fly but often better.
Welcome to the site!
OP PLS NERF
not even kidding, I don't think I need to elaborate much since there's no reason why you wouldn't run this in every paladin deck ever. At least make it cost 1 thank you
