I need to see the effects, but I think that here is the meme card of the new expansion. :D
By The Holy Light!
The old jungle board with the red gem eyed statue gives
Transfer Student:
Stealth and Poisonous.
what are the effects?
I am 69 years old and still reach Legend
This card seems too unreliable, so i think this is most likely a meme card. I did see in the reveal trailer that they got Plague of Flames on some board, didn't see on which board it was though. But if it can give a few good cards this might actually see play. 2/2 statline isn't bad, it is just really dependent on what spells which board gives. If there was a way to give stars for design i would have given it 5 stars, as this is the first time we get a card with this kind of effect.
RNG is only fun as long as there is a 50/50 chance of getting something really good or trash level of bad. If RNG always results in something good, then it's not fun.
Too random to put in a deck? or maybe it has strong enough effects on every board so it might be fine..
it's random but actually you know what it does which is not something HS does a lot.
I like the design but might be hard to fit in a deck cause it's inconsistent
Almost certain to see no play, just because you have no idea what the board will be.
I assume they have decided to stop giving out powerful neutral legendaries after kael'thas, and have decided to do more marin the fox style promo cards, which is a shame.
To add to the list:
AoO gives Dormant for two turns and When this awakens, deal 3 to two random enemies
SoU gives Reborn
This post is discussing the wild format.
Dod discovers a dragon
Uldum gives random plague
Theres also one with reborn, give +1/+1, deal 2 damage
This deck is cool. Play it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
can be used for aggro decks. its gives the old sir finley battlecry in one of the boards. reborn on another etc
So effects are pretty strong. Also you should remember u have smaller pool of maps in standard. Funny card who need an update every expansion. I'm curious how long can this go on?
What's the most powerful card in Hearthstone?
A credit card.
tried to put in a deck
it popped up with the battlecry "add a lackey to your hand"
So it looks the effect is decided when you draw it ...
I am 69 years old and still reach Legend
LoE = Add a random weapon to your hand
MSoG = Give a minion in your hand +2/+2
Papa Nurgle wants to share his gifts.
To see all the effects myself will take a couple of months years decades.
Very difficult to assess since the effect cannot be relied upon, but 5 stars for creativity and uniqueness.
Now this is a card I never thought I needed, but I love it. Surprise benefits on a basic body that bring the board into the game itself. I like the idea of the atmosphere/setting of a battle having an effect on the outcome.
Official Lorekeeper and Spinner of Tavern Tales
So this is a big ol gamble of seeing if you get something super strong and crazy like death knight cards without Arfus and The Lich King or something kinda dinky like reborn. So while it seems good its really hard to evaluate unless you rank it on each effect.
Self proclaimed good at battlegrounds
RNG on a whole new level...
“If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.” ― George Bernard Shaw
EU Legend: S52 (ZooHeal Lock); S76 (Highlander Hunter);
it's..not really bad, is it? At worst it'll be an above curve minion and occasionally it will be the answer you need. JUsts throw it in HIghlandeer decks that want more 2-drops and it'll do just fine.
I tried having fun once.
It was awful.
Is it confirmed if you can get this in arena? Cuz this is pretty insane. There isn't a single bad effect here. Even the ''worst'' ones are perfectly fine (considering they come with a 2/2 body you only payed 2 mana for), most of them are in the very good or amazing range, and some of them are straight up broken, like the Excavation Site ( atleast really good), Uldum(alt) or Frozen Throne boards.
Now that's a new effect type I've never seen before.
Despite the hilarity of the card, I feel like it's not actually that bad. Most of the effects are really quite solid on a 2 mana 2/2.
This is an interesting take on randomness. Usually when a card does something random, you won't know what will happen until you play it, but now you are able to plan ahead because you know right when the game starts exactly what this does. And even though the card is inconsistent, all of the effects are positive. Even though this was obviously meant to be a joke card, it actually wouldn't be a bad pick if you needed a generic 2-drop.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
I will be using this card quite a bit. It seems fine in slower value decks. This also reduces disappointment from getting these in packs for those who despise this kind of RNG.
More RNG stuff, but at least your opponent is thrown off. Best for Even decks with the Inspire effect. If there's a higher probability for more Standard boards being given, then a Lackey deck seems a good all-rounder, at the very least this card can delay the other side for Turn 2.
Going to put this here for discussion sake:
I honestly have conflicting feelings about the card.
It's pretty cool idea to incorporate the board type into the game, but at the same time... it isn't.
I just played my first match with Transfer Student in my deck, and I know I cannot make assumptions based off of one game, but the fact that it only took one game to find an example of my concerns kind of proves my point.
I slid a copy of Transfer Student into my Highlander Hunter list. I queue into a Druid, which I correctly assume is a Spell Druid on the DoD board.
I had Transfer Student in my mulligan (the game really wanted me to try the new card), giving me a 2 mana Discover a Dragon on a 2/2 body. Not bad.
I play it on-curve and was offered Veranus, Onyxia and Cobalt Spellkin. Expecting a mana ramp into a turn 7 Exotic Mountseller, I pick Veranus.
Long story short, he curves into Exotic Mountseller on his 7, right as I hit turn 6 to clear his board using the Veranus I discovered from Transfer Student, continue to apply pressure, and win the game.
The entire reason I won that match, is because we were on the DoD game board. I did not draw any other answer to that T7, and had we been on say the Uldum board, I would have lost.
I am fully expecting to see a lot of Trollden videos surrounding this card. People losing matches on Orgrimmar with 2 damage going face etc etc.
It may not happen enough to matter, but it will be rather frustrating to lose a game just because of which game board you got stuck with.
I don't want to get over hyped, but this card feels super necessary as a tempo drop in the current meta and is doomed to get nailed with a nerf.
Some of the effects are awesome some are just good. Overall good card. I'd run it in a more aggressive deck. The control decks loose out with some of the smaller effects where an on curve 2 drop with any of those effects really do well in agro.
Casual Dragon Cardgame enthusiast.
Didn't think of this, I honestly though we could get the Goblins vs Gnomes map and then get spare parts in standard. Thanks for the heads up.
Its the sort of card thats gimmicky, yet have sufficient firepower to be an actual viable card in decks. Some notable effects;
- Gain divine shield
- Gain deathrattle: 1 death knight card to hand
- Give a friendly minion +1+2
- Discover a new hero power (basic)
So as it stands, there are some very powerful effects (gain deathknight cards, discover new hp) but there are also some misses (Add an uldum plague to hand, dormant - Deal 3 damage to 2 units) and what exactly that determines this is nothing anyone can manipulate to suit the situation, but based on an RNG roll of game boards (of all things).
Yes, its fun. But its fun in the same vein as The Amazing Reno. Its too powerful an effect to ignore, that your opponent just beaten you because he lucked out on game board selection. One of these days we're gonna have something that queue to the soundtrack at this point.
If there is a silver lining its that you know what the effect is, and therefore if this thing picks up steam, its still possible to play around it, but I'd rather not be crying the minute I see the game board on turn 1.
This card is actually insane. All the effects are really really good, especially for a 2 drop.
Despite it's inconsistence, the effects are strong enough for this to be very playable. It's also cute and fun card, you can imagine all sorts of background stories for this shy little fox. :)
I suppose it could be handy in some of the solo adventures, since you’d know what board it would be playing on?
Any good decks to include this in? Looks like a fit for any casino deck.
Fun effect, and pretty consistently worth 2 or more mana, but you can't rely on it to fit into a strategy.
Where Transfer Student might shine is in the Heroic solo content, where you have to build your own deck and you always know what board you'll be playing on.
it's a fun card, but 2/2 with a battlecry isn't GREAT stat wise and it's too random to probably see constructed unless you're wanting an RNG fiesta deck
Also since this card will only have interactions with boards from until next year means any board from 2022 onward (if this game goes on that long) will become a vanilla 2/2
its already being banned in some tourneys. the card is solid. dont know about broken
Fun meme, I like this way to be RNG. Wish there was an in-game way to see the effects though.
I like the creativity of this card but, it is not reliable to be in a serious deck, but some of the effects are quite reasonable for a 2 mana card.
It's not even RNG actually, because both players know the effect before Mulligan.
It CAN be RNG in its Discover or Generation effects, but is that even relevant, since it doesn't even happen all the times?
People are just tilted.
It's disingenuous to blame this card and be ok with Brightwing.
Or you could have veranus in your deck.
All effects make for either a really good tempo oriented 2 drop or a decent to good value generator. On one hand, it makes the card decently consistnet, on the other, it can give Prince Keleseth levels of RNG frustration in the sense that it can be either game winning (like on Xarkkal's example) or borderline useless because of some non interactive shenanigans.
I actually like the idea of a card that relies on the board to get its effect, but I don't believe it should be put on a early game minion. If this card was like a 7 mana 6/6 or even 7/7 with similar effects, it would probably be a bit less annoying to play against.
Rating cards on coolness factor rather than predicting power because I like screwing up rating averages (and because I suck at predicting real power levels, but we'll ignore that LUL)
Wins per class (2/6/22): DH-197; Druid-996; Hunter-91«60; Mage-1056; Paladin-1126; Priest-746; Rogue-961; Shaman-1095; Warlock-871; Warrior-906
I absolutely love this concept. Gameboards have never made a difference before. It's a neat idea, and so unpredictable that it could be fun.
Here's the thing though: you can exploit this when playing old adventures, because you KNOW which board it will be.
"Be excellent to each other." -Bill and Ted
Flavorful and fun effect :
"Oh, the places you'll go! There is so much to fight! There are boards to be explored. There are dreams to take flight."
I like how this just added an extra layer to HS, making the randomized boards relevant
Struggle with Heroic Galakrond's Awakening? I got your back :
Having fudged around with this for a week now, I haven't seen it be of much use. It's a good 2-drop, granted, but sometimes it's not good.
That said: I still love it and will keep playing it. Hearthstone needs more quirky effects like these. This is what good random looks like.
Started playing HS in May, 2015. The bad news: I missed the excitement of 'Naxx out?' and GvG. The good news: I never met an Undertaker.
Heh, i dont think you need to go into such extremes, but players with a limited collection might find it helpful.

Fun effect for sure, but maybe it's too unreliable. However it's not to bad in general....maybe can find a spont in a highlander deck
Wherever the student goes, they will try to adapt to their surroundings. Flavor 5/5, will fit into my budget deck
I absolutely LOVE this card!!!
Too inconsistent for my tastes.
Thanks to denial, I'm immortal.
SO FUN!
Lemushki - The one and only since the 2006 rebranding.
The most fun and interesting effect of the set. Love it
Been playing a bit with it. I'm finding it to be a decent card so far and I love the mechanic of making the game board matter.
Awesome Highlander card if you have space.
Looks nice but it's too unreliable to see play
All hail the banshee queen.
Love this card idea, and love the art even more! Also super fun board animation!
TS got a lot of flack for board RNG being relevant, but the board RNG doesn't feel that bad to me.
To me, board RNG just feels like I am rolling a die at the beginning of the game that designates an effect to this card for the rest of the game, and the effect is almost always better than other cards with similar effects.
Check out this gif if you want to see a fast summary of all of the different Transfer Students:
Transfer Student Effects Gif
Filler card for some highlander decks or more tempo based decks, too random to be reliable.
I don't get why people hate so much on the board RNG thing. The whole game is built on RNG, one way or another. "Not competitive consistent", gimme a break.
From what I’ve seen, the card is decent, but really unreliable, even if the effects are all generally good
Who needs consistency when you could have fun?
Love the idea
-=alfi=-
I must say, I love when team 5 explore new mechanics in a creative way.
Love the entrance animation
We've already seen that this is used somewhat successfully in highlander decks, which where I still see this being once Scholomance is out. The issue with Transfer Student being in non-highlander deck archetypes is that it doesn't provide enough inherent synergy when those decks can run duplicates of their synergistic cards. Transfer Student is still a powerful card on average, which is why highlander decks will still consider this card.
For glory, honor, and gold!
This card when played on the Scholomance board is where I fear it the most since it generates a random dual class card while on campus grounds.
Quick! Someone give me something clever to write here.
Consistently inconsistent. Very cool design though, haven't played the card that much, but some of the effects are insane compared to others.
TREMBLE before.... the most legendary dragon that ever existed!
Genuinely can't decide if I love or hate this design. I think I've come around to loving it again. It's so weird and out there and I'm not sure still about how strong a lot of the effects are... but god I love that they're still innovating like this.
Welcome to the site!
Is it good? No, but it's not terrible.. It's just both fun & interesting.
I put it in my Highlander Hunter deck where it's actually been useful in a few games.
Very versatile, quite a fun card to play around with.
