  • Idea for Extra Merc Coins

    Quote From Pezman

Guys, I'm so salty right now. I am only missing 3 Mercenaries (all legendaries, of course), so I decided to open up my 53 saved packs. Want to know what I got? TWO portraits for legendaries I already had (I do NOT care about cosmetics), a bunch of portraits for rares and epics, TONS of coins I cannot use for maxxed out Mercs, and yes, quite a few coins for Mercs I am still upgrading. I was hoping to net at LEAST one of the missing Mercs, hopefully two. I've clearly reached the point where my collection is so complete that packs are nearly worthless. This feels SO bad, man. I am eagerly awaiting news on what I will be able to use excess coins for. It better be good!

While I can sympathize, the unfortunate reality of mercs is that packs tend to devalue the more mercs you have in your collection. In fact opening a pack now I can easily get 0 value (and frequently do), because Ive all mercs with at least 60% maxed out. The best way to get mercs is grinding it out, waiting for the next big release so you can open more packs for a little more value than usual. I have 60 packs currently sitting in my collection, waiting for the eventual darkmoon (where we'll likely get Yogg) content to come out.

Ive actually considered slowing down on quest completion, because it almost always result in getting coins I dont need.

Pity timers are the best thing team5 can do to alleviate most of the concerns, but the big picture is that merc packs are nearly always worthless. Once you have at least 70% of all the mercs, opening further packs just infuriates, not alleviate.

Combing Loatheb and curses is a really smart idea I never considered. I am going to try to and see how well it works in control.

  • Curse Warlock - Wild Hearthstone Full Deck & Guide on the Wildest of Tuesdays

It does reduce damage, and yes if hand is full then there is no point to add curses, it doesn't do anything.

I tried him but he was too slow, Magtheridon performed better in testing but you can cut Magtheridon for him if you want.

  • Is there a way to reset Thresh?

Looks that way, because I tried it twice yesterday and it doesn't work.

I would guess that it being changed would be why he's not too popular.

    My first wave of feedback.

    Wailor
I like both versions of the card. I think the first version is fine in terms of design, but I've made that exact same card at 2 mana and honestly I think you can do the same thing. The second version is pretty cool, though a part of me is tempted to say that it can be 2 mana.

    Linkblade91

I do prefer Tumbling Snowball myself, though I think the tokens should be Elementals.

Also, I'm not sure who R is supposed to be when you say "R's feedback for my opinion on Deep Burn". R hasn't given me any feedback at all.

    BasilAnguis
I do like Cauterize the best. Icy Hell is perfectly fine (though it doesn't feel like a Classic card), and I think Blazing Speed is just too weird and unwieldy.

    AeroJulwin
Awesome flavor. I'm slightly worried about how strong this would be in Spell Druid decks since it's arguably even stronger than Fungal Fortunes in many ways.

    Nirast
I will also agree in that it should drop the Cost reduction, mainly because the card feels too bloated with effects when it does have it. I realize that this is also just a problem with dual-class cards in general, but I do also think it leans quite heavily into the Warrior side both mechanically and flavorfully to the point where it'd probably make more sense for it to just be a Warrior card. If you want to keep it as a dual-class card, then I'd suggest to try changing the flavor of it a bit.

    R

Tea Time is flavorful I suppose, but it doesn't feel like either a Warrior card or a Fire spell, and I think you should change the artwork. I love Uncle Iroh as much as the next person, but he doesn't belong on a Hearthstone card unless you're trying to make some sort of Hearthstone/ATLA crossover set (which come to think about it, actually sounds like it could work). It also feels really weird as a Common, as the "end your turn" effect in and of itself feels like an Epic on the cusp of being a Legendary.

Overheat I think is better in terms of Fire spell flavor and simplicity for the rarity, but it screams OTK potential. Two of these in turn can quadruple a character's damage for 4 mana. It also doesn't feel like a VttSC card either.

If your opponent plays the curses you give her, does that reduce some of the damage, or just create more space in her hand?

Similarly, if her hand is full, should I stop adding curses, or does the damage counter continue to rise?

Seems like the Warlock Herald is bugged.

Try using Priest one. I didn't have time checking Druid and Demon Hunter. But Priest one is worked.

in fact ... that was my herald :(

Druid herald also works and fits perfectly in a token Druid deck which even has a decent enough winrate.

Killing him, bouncing him, putting him in a stasis statue doesn't work.

Is there ANY way you can make him trigger more than once?

Really? I played my fair share of Thresh Nasus during the Shurima expansion and back then if Tresh die and gets revived with Chronicler of Ruin for example, his effect would trigger again, did they change that interaction?

    Feedback:

    Show Spoiler

BasilAnguis - I think Icy Hell is trying too hard to get around using the word "Freeze". I like Cauterize the most: simple, effective, and feels Warlock-y enough.

R - While we're allowing the whole "double damage" thing to slide, I personally - as the comp's creator - feel like it defeats the point of the prompt. The idea was that the Fire spells should not be damage-related at all; I wanted to see something completely different than the tried-and-true "Fire = Destruction" concepts. With that in mind, I prefer Tea Time by default.

Wailor - Now that it costs 3 and has that stat-buff attached, I think it's pretty cool. You're not necessarily bouncing Battlecry minions (although you can), but maybe Rush minions instead to best exploit the stat buff. Charge always makes that scary, of course, but it shouldn't be a big deal.

Nirast - I agree with the others in-that you should drop the cost-reduction bonus; there's too much going on already. I also agree that you have a problem with the Rogue Discovering Armor cards: it has none, so it can't Discover anything :/ Make it Warrior-only, undo the capitalizations that are not necessary, and you should be good.

AeroJulwin - This seems absolutely insane in Druid decks that run very few (if any) minions. We know they exist, so a 1-mana draw-2 with no downsides is a big problem in my opinion. Flavor is great; just concerned about that archetype breaking this card.

Demonxz95 - See R's feedback for my opinion of Deep Burn. I think Flame Enchantment is the most interesting, but maybe up the Cost given how easy it can be to chain cards in Rogue.

Alrighty, here's an update to Crashing Tumbling Snowball:

Golems seem more in line with the Druid than a nameless Elemental (see: Jade Golems, Ironwood Golem). Like Jades, I made three tokens for the various sizes one might produce; I thought that might be cool (no pun intended).

Well, never make cards at 2 in the morning folks! Here's some ideas that actually respect the rules xD

Cauterize works just like old Alexstrasza does, meaning it's 20 "injured" health.

  • I'm in the Open Beta - AMA

    Quote From FenrirWulf

I might as well add this here. I've been playing Snap for 2 weeks now and I got to Collection Level 300. Most people think the progression is pretty bad, I think it's probably fine. It should be noted that I have not reached Pool 3 where I heard a lot more people complain about and that you should understand that getting cards become exponentially harder (literally). You could get the meta decks relatively easily even with bad luck compared to other games. The more fun decks though? Not so much. Deckbuilding feels restricted and luck plays a lot in higher collection pools.

Also, I understand that it's a beta. Nevertheless I'd say that the matchmaking system is pretty bad. They have a casual matchmaking system where the only mode is ranked. They have it where your cubes (rank) and collection level (card pool) don't matter and only your MMR matters. I think that you can easily see why this is bad but to illustrate it. I am rank 55 which is relatively in the middle, however I am facing people who have already reached the highest rank and I fight them regularly. I've faced too many people with a much higher collection pool as well with the upgraded versions of the meta decks. It gets pretty frustrating when you can't climb not because of your skill but because the game had been rigged against you before your draws. Meanwhile, streamers face bots on the regular because their MMR is literally too high to face real people. I'm curious if you guys had any similar/differing experiences.

I'm a lot lower than you rank wise (39) with a collection level of 325 or something. If you are 55 that would mean to me you are at least a lot better then me, meaning your MMR is also a lot better.

That might explain why you queue into better players or players with better collection levels because you are playing well.

So far I haven't noticed what you have noticed and deck matchups seem fine for me.

As there is not so many players yet, having a higher MMR would mean that at this moment you queue a bit unevenly. When there is (a lot) more players I would believe this would probably dissapear.

And thanks for the additions everybody to my story ;)

  • Idea for Extra Merc Coins

    Quote From Avalon

    There is no duplicate protection.

There is - as is apparent by how quickly you'll open all the new rares when they come out - but it doesn't apply when coins luckily(?) get replaced by portraits. When this happens for a legendary that you already own it can look like duplicate protection isn't present, but that's a bit misrepresentative since it is using the wrong information. In the (admittedly unofficial) flowchart @NebuchadnezzarHS shared, duplicate protection applies only to the left column, but it is present.

I think the bigger problem in @Pezman's case is that there is no pity timer. So you can go 50+ packs without seeing any legendaries that obey duplicate protection (or any legendaries at all!). And that feels pretty damn awful. Honestly, their removal of the pity timer in Mercs is probably the most concerning aspect of the game's design because there was absolutely no reason to do it other than to make the packs less valuable. And unlike the other concerning aspects of the game, this one was actively made worse than the existing precedent.

I know the feeling although my personal experience was less intense. After opening all 39 of my previously saved up free packs from doing old tasks, I only missed Reno Jackson as my last mercenary, so I opened another 18 free packs from doing new tasks and I only got a Leeroy Jenkins portrait instead. I just assumed there has to be some kind of duplicate protection built into Mercenaries pack openings, but that did not happen for us. Not sure if we both encountered a bug or the Mercenaries economy is actually much worse than I expected. Was my assumption wrong, does anyone know?

EDIT: Though not official, this is what RidiculousHat figured out by opening a lot of packs:
