It can be balanced in Wild. It wouldn't even be that difficult to make it decent, maybe a bit niche, without touching the quest itself. They would just have to actually be trying though, which they're not. There are so many easy nerf targest there. Broom, Raise Dead, Mithril Rod, Plague of Flames, Spirit Bomb, Touch of the Nathrezim. It's pretty telling that with just a single tick from the Mithril Rod Warlocks can play an entire hand out, cause most of their hyper-efficient shit costs 0-1 mana.
That's not the point... if someone wants to pay, pay, no problem, the devs have all the rights to ask for whatever amount they want, and people can choose either if they want to spend or not.
But when you have a currency that let's you play 3 game modes, and now you add another mode that asks for (maybe) a loooooot more...
That's not good for any player.
IE.: A new player won't be able to do anything with the amount of gold you gain without having to expend real money at least 2-3 times a year.
Well, at least the OTK build should be sufficiently dead.
Giant nerf is literally just an apology since they should have done it like that the first place. Should definitely make it easier to outpace the Handlock version now.
I guess they'll just have to ban the Warlock Quest from Wild entirely, I doubt it can ever be balanced for that mode (at least not while also being at least somewhat playable in Standard).
That's the reason why you don't like it? Why did you ever started playing Hearthstone to begin with then? I personally think it's exciting to have alternative version of the contructed mode with a huge focus on pve and I don't really mind the packs then.
Sigh...seriously? This shit again? Quest Warlock is two tiers above everything else in Wild right now and they're still meekly bumping Flesh Giant another mana, while not touching any of the 0-1 mana hyper-efficient shit Warlock is routinely doing. Place your bets people, how many times will they have to nerf Warlock this expansion until they finally get it right?
Good thing Battlegrounds is getting a big update I guess, cause I'm not touching constructed until they actually do something about it and not just pretend to be doing something about it.
Developing a new mode players have been extremely excited for is not a "cash grab" - grow up. By your definition, every single employed person going to work every day is engaged in a "cash grab," and that's an utterly asinine perspective.
Blizzard has been doing a ton of 6-month sub get a mount promotions over the past couple of years so this continues on with that while trying to get more players to check out Hearthstone. There isn't much reason for a WoW player to check out Hearthstone, but tons of free stuff is a damn good reason to go over and get sucked into it. Having a rewards track unlocked is so good to keep people engaged since they'll get constant cool stuff. Carrying that over into the next expansion, which if it is indeed a Horde vs Alliance theme, will sit well with a ton of WoW players.
This also gets Hearthstone players essentially a free 6-month sub which is a good way to get the numbers up in WoW.
I'm gonna be charitable here...if this is just a ploy to milk the barely-sentient whales who are so deep in the instant-gratification loop that you can sell them just about anything, then I'm fine with it, because at the very least it's going to rake in cash meaning we won't have to worry about them trying to monetize the main game (and Battlegrounds) even harder.
No one said that you have to be up to date in every mode. I see it more as a permanent alternative to constructed and if the matchmaking actually works in the way they described it (as in you fight a similar level team in pvp), you should also be able to play it casually. Or you ignore it just all together and focus on the countless pve missions and their 2 (3) difficulties.
Basically this is a game where you collect and upgrade tons and tons of heroes. This usually requires really, really really serious grind - playing for hours daily, or big ongoing investments.
As you can see, you will receive specific hero coin drops (either from quests or buying for gold/real money) from lootboxes (packs). So to get a specific hero you want you need to spend a lot or have luck. To upgrade the hero you need more of these coins. You can upgrade your heroes a lot.
Legendary heroes are usually stronger than epic which are stronger than rare etc.
Famous game of this genre, Raid: Shadow legends is run by a casino company, that much money these games make.
From what I could gather, it really does seem like they want you to pull gold away from Hearthstone to upgrade your Merc buildings (and/or buy packs, I assume). For someone like me who wants to play Hearthstone, Battlegrounds, *and* Mercenaries, that is stretching my resources quite thin D:
Still, I am excited for this mode. The economics and whatnot can be sorted out; doesn't mean anything if the base game sucks, but it looks fun to me. Plus I can play mostly by myself and still be rewarded; that's what I want! lol
Monetization... Are you kidding? They expect F2P players to enter a new game mode, that asks you to upgrade your "hub" with the only in-game currency that helps you in having a collection for the main game mode... So... isn't that a cash grab?
I mean, they announced it and put up 3 bundles, that are expensive as hell at the same time...
Everything seems fishy as hell... and don't get me wrong, I want it to thrive, because I'm a huge fan of Roguelikes/lites, of card games, and of progression focused games... and this? This doesn't really look good.
The gameplay looks pretty fun. But I don’t pay for single-player games the way I pay for competitive games. I can’t tell if the F2P experience will be fun, or if it will always feel like it’s bugging me to upgrade. I also can’t tell whether it will feel like my time in Mercenaries is earning gold for Hearthstone, or whether it will pressure me to take gold from Hearthstone and put it into this. The answers to those questions will make or break the game for me. (And the answer to “can I ignore it if I don’t like it?” may make or break Hearthstone for me.)

Pathetic nerfs. All slow decks are still dead. And aggro didn't need any help.

People have been saying it would be some form of gacha monetization for at least six months. If it surprises you, you've been hiding under a rock.

No that isnt a cash grab. You cannot pay the devs with air.
Cash grabs were thinks like no-dupe clause in the past. Or offering a bonus for a six month subscription.
This is just the business model of the mode.

The mount is part of mercenaries. If you complete the tutorial you get him. Just like the Hearthsteed (which still is avaible).
The rest is a bonus for a half time subscription to halt the downfall of WoW subs.
My advice is not to buy it. Most of the time you quit WoW after a month or take a break.
