  • How is Warlock Going to Perform in Hearthstone's Year of the Gryphon? Core Set Review

yeah, right now Warlock's only reward for discarding is either Hand of Gul'dan or Boneweb egg.

but having this in the core set is probably an indicator we'll get more discard synergies this year

  • How is Warlock Going to Perform in Hearthstone's Year of the Gryphon? Core Set Review

Here's a meme - Felsoul Jailer in a control deck with Shadow Hunter Vol'jin. You're already getting yourself to 10 mana playing this deck, you plop down Jailer to remove a late game threat or combo piece, then target Vol'jin on it for something else - like anything with a taunt.

Also I don't think discard warlock is missing out on draw - they're usually aggro zoo type decks that run the Hand of Gul'dan - you just dump your hand, Lakkari will discard that 6 mana draw spell, get 3 cards, profit.

I didn't realize Drain Soul was 3 damage now. I think it was 2 originally?

All in all Warlock has some GOOD tools in the core. This is the only class I have over 1000 wins with, it's going to feel good to bully people with warlock again.

27th February update: SilentNick's Totem Shaman ft. Grant Totem Eys'or / facing a double Iceblock meta!

What an amazingly fun deck! Initially, challenging to pilot. My first game against the Secrets Mage was a mess. Bad ordering. Bad misplays. It can take some time to get your head around the deck, especially when you have a full hand with lots of options. Playing left-handed hasn't helped me! As I played more games, things got better.

Over a week, I have managed to go from diamond rank 8 to diamond rank 4 with this deck. The remaining games against Warrior, Quest Mage and Pogo-Hopper Rogue were played much better! Annoying that my Mage opponents had a habit of finding two Iceblocks.

  • How is Warlock Going to Perform in Hearthstone's Year of the Gryphon? Core Set Review

Lakkari Felhound wasn't a buff, its likely a change to make it harder to get Hand of Gul'dan out since Expired Merchant would be rotating away. Discarding two cards is still significant so I don't expect this to ever be played in standard unless we start seeing something like Clutchmother Zavas. I'm more impressed with tiny knight. Its simply impossible to ignore and Wicked Whispers with this on 3 creates a 5/4, which is plenty of tempo.

My prediction is that zoo will still make it via pain warlock. Most of their core is still here, but losing Voidwalker might be just a tad too much for comfort. It'll likely be the best variation of warlock unless Barrens introduce yet more control cards.

Congraaats! :) So happy for you! I always love to read these posts. What was your free legendary? I´ve never been there yet, always up and down D3-D1 until I give up, but I´m gonna try to make the final push next month. GG WP!

Well, the legendary was Lorewalker Cho, not a great one, but I only lost 1 single game today, you can't have it all!

If I did it you can do it, too! It's a matter of time, if you reach Diamond 5 early enough you will achieve it!

  • New Freljord Spell - Ancestral Boon

    Quote From Vino

    @minuano28

True, but even small buff from Omen Hawk is pretty impactful.

With Ancestral Boon, all allies you draw for the rest of the game have +2 / +2 which is very overwhelming for the opponent. (And you can play it play 3 times for up to +6 / +6).

Still, you need to play Freljord mono deck, but the payoff is big. It supports more minion-heavy deck style for sure.

Buddy I gues you misread the card: It says ENLIGHTEN not Allegiance for the +2/+2 bonus so you need to play this buff very late in the game to give all units in the deck +2/+2

  • 'Warcraft III'-themed Expansion

There are plenty of good idea in there, but I do have a few points of (hopefully constructive) criticism.

While I understand the association of classes with the races, I don't think that motivates making everything into dual-class cards. It would be sufficient for both mage and paladin to have a human focus, for example, but to also have their own distinct cards. Kind of like how warrior, paladin, hunter, druid and warlock were all dinosaur classes in Un'Goro, but they each had their own spin on it.

This is especially important when cards mix themes/mechanics from the two classes that they don't share normally. To highlight an example: why does paladin have access to a freeze effect in Dalaran Sorceress? There is nothing about that card that has anything to do with the paladin class. Perhaps the most problematic examples are the secrets. Paladin shouldn't have a 3-mana secret, and druid shouldn't have any secrets at all.

Neutral weapons with non-0 attack is always a no-no. It has only ever happened with Atiesh, but that was basically an 8-mana weapon that was not really intended to be used to attack with.

You have a disregard for vanilla stats, with a 2 mana 3/3 and 3 mana 3/5 for example. I was glad to see River Crocolisk, Spider Tank and Chillwind Yeti in the Core set to make it clear that power creep in HS has not yet reached the point where vanilla stats have increased on low-mid cost minions.

The Sentry Ward, Shade and Sentinel Owl, all of which can be summoned very early on at next to no cost, should not have permanent stealth. Revealing the opponent's hand, in particular, ought to be valued quite highly. It feels like there are so many cards that ignore stealth (including these cards) just to mitigate this glaring balance problem. I'm sure WC3 inspired a lot of them, but HS isn't WC3 and you sometimes need to get creative to adapt effects to make sense within HS.

  • Shuriman Cheese

Even if Ascended's Rise levels up champs in deck, the level up doesn't count until you play them, so you still need to draw them (which is not that hard since we have the 0 mana draw a champ spell)

  • New Neutral Minion - Baron Geddon

Detracts from the point that a 2 damage AoE is not good enough for a 7 mana minion.
Primordial Drake saw play because the mana premium it adds an additional board clear.
Bog Creeper, Saronite Chain Gang, & The Lich King saw play for being taunts.

  • New Neutral Minion - Baron Geddon

    "The AOE is good enough"
    The AoE.

  • New Neutral Minion - Bluegill Warrior

I like that blizz removes that cheap charge minions like Bluegill Warrior or Stonetusk Boar, that cards limits card design, specially for classes with synergies with beast and buffs.

  • Yet another First Time Legend

Well done mate - I knew you could do it!!!!

  • What do you consider BM within HS?

I'm using emotes mostly for some reactions, greet and such. I mean, normal ways. Not spamming or anything.

When they never emote back, I know that they squelched at the first moment when we encountered. I consider this as a bm. Think that you re playing this game physically and as soon as you sit, your opponent seals their ears with something. Spamming might annoy everyone, I'm ok with that but you can squelch after bunch of emotes, You don't have to do it instantly whenever you encountered with a human-being.

I was so annoyed when Quest Druid was in the meta. They were there but they act like they are afk. I really hated that. In my opinion that was a BM as well.

Also, not accepting friend requests are bad manners in my opinion because I want to say something to my opponent after the games end. Sometimes it was about how they played well, sometimes I want to ask some questions about the game why they decide to do that and sometimes it was all about their nickname, and sometimes it was a different deck and i want to ask for codes but so less people accept it. I can understand that people thinks always the bad side of that; "They added me, They will be toxic about game/deck etc." but it is bad manners to not accept in my opinion. You don't really have to read intentions.

Other than that, Simple stuff like roping, spamming etc. But Roping after doing their move and spend all of their mana annoys me more than waiting to play until rope comes constantly.

I know it's not a big deal, many of you reach Legend on a monthly basis, but well, I'm playing Hearthstone since 2015 and I wanted to share with you my satisfaction after reaching Legend for the first time!

I played a deck I enjoy a lot, Whirlkickmaster Rogue, so it was fun most of the time, but some days it was frustrating. Well, that's it, thanks for reading!

  • All the New Core Set Cards Coming to Hearthstone in Year of the Gryphon + Full 235 Cards Reveal

    Quote From dapperdog

With the exception of Fireball, none of those core spells have or will see inclusion into the current iteration of burn mage. And since I rate Imprisoned Phoenix higher than Aegwynn, that should more or less settle this debate.

Imagine you triggered Aegwynn, the Guardian onto Imprisoned Phoenix, Your Fireballs are now Pyroblasts.

I'm actually saying that, Why not both ?

  • 17 New Cards Revealed for Runeterra's Empires of the Ascended Expansion - Multiple Regions!

It's can die in combat, still be affected by any spell that say kill, obliterate or recall and doesn't have any useful keyword like overwhelm, fearsome or life drain. It's not bad card but no great either.

  • My wish for weekly quests

    Choosable quests might be even better in my opinion. I mean, The game can ask you whenever you open the game for the day first time like discover mechanic and choose between options of game modes, not especially the quests. It can be a random quest from chosen category like;

    Opened the game;

A screen of choices appeared as "Arena, Duels, Battlegrounds, Casual/Ranked"
    I chose you, Casual/Ranked !
I obtained a new random quest related with Casual/Ranked
    He chose you, Battlegrounds !
He obtained a new random quest related with Battlegrounds !

    Everyone is happy !

    Oh, And there is some extra;

    "I didn't like this quest, let's reroll"
I obtained a new random quest related with Casual/Ranked again !
"He didn't like that quest, let's reroll"
He obtained a new random quest related with Battlegrounds again !

    Everyone is Happier !

That must not be so hard to implement, I presume.

  • New Neutral Minion - Alexstrasza the Life-Binder

    I like It.

Versatile cards usually saw play and that one can be a finisher dealing 8 damage to enemy face.

I Hope that blizz print more dragons, dragon priest was my favourite midrange deck ever and the new Alexs could fit perfectly.

Well 2 more hp is ok but the main selling point of the card, the AOE is just not good enough in today metas. It need to deal 3 damage otherwise this card is just a little better War Golem

Primordial Drake has proven the AOE is good enough

Primordial Drake sees play because he has taunt.

Could see play if tons of tokens decks swarms the meta.
