  • Guess who is streaming LoR again?!?!?

Megam0gwai is back on LoR streaming, planning to do the Runeterra Open in 2 weeks, etc.

Apparently Snap's biggest cheerleader has jumped ship.

  • Pro Players Finally Gave Up & Started Copying Nifty

Sorry the star springs deck is a little hard to pilot I didn't say all my decks were easy, just that they have there place if you aren't a monkey.

I should start offering tutoring lessons, provide your gamer tag and I can give off meta piloting advice free of charge.

  • Pro Players Finally Gave Up & Started Copying Nifty

    https://app.mobalytics.gg/lor/meta-tier-list

So low and behold I'm browsing current standard tier list to admire the shit show.

What do I see in A tier.

Illoi Jarvan a deck that hasn't been popular since initial release and that I've been playing competitively ever since.

    CICQCAQGAUAQIAAIAEDQABICAUAAYFAIAYDAMBYPCAOB4IZIAAAQCBQGBM

It's got the one of nakaboros from my list, they replaced the 3 mana buff with cataclysm thats a meta decision, and added single which again is a meta decision.

So all told they rotated two cards for strikes and jammed two copies of Riptide.

So yes better for standard where there's more agressive targets and you need 8 removal cards but Jesus this is literally just my deck and not even in the format I like.

This is getting saj guys if you're gonna steal from the king at least say so. What's next 30 days from now I look at eternal tier lists and its like copy paste 5 of my decks you run into on ladder?

  • Eternal Decks I Think Got Better

Hey look you stole my Asol ramp deck that's the spirit if you can't beat them copy them! Only way you can beat the king of eternal is to be him glad you realized.

That is the problem when you single handedly define an entire format. Is that people can go to your decks from last season and this season and be like hey that's pretty good and then change two cards and pretend they are clever.

Like no its my deck I played Asol ramp competitively before rotation and I play it now and yes it is insane.

What have you built that's stood the test of time?

  • Eternal Decks I Think Got Better

Also there's a huge difference between here's my game 1 with sandstone general in Azir heckarim vs here's my 100 games won eternal powerhouse pirate aggro deck.

In case you're wondering the difference is me winning in 3 turns checkmate.

  • Eternal Decks I Think Got Better

So on a possitive note even though we are 30 days away from competitive I'm gonna talk about the only format I care about and that's eternal.

Specifically the decks I think got better with the last set additions. I'm gonna skip over the obvious  ones like pirate aggro, like we know this last set was huge for bilge noxious.

    What else we got?

    1. Star springs - pretty dope with eight punch Pablo. Providing both a good body with attune, a healing activator cuz of strike, and potentially contributing to removal efforts is amazing value for this deck. Cosmic youngling is less great but good into hyper aggro, where star springs usually suffered. So now it's do you want toad for the draw or youngling for the sustain?

    2. Echo - the fact that shurima got its own version of a 4 mana tutor follower is insanely good for echo. Clocking predicts and draws and gives you that annoying little body all at once.

    3. Shen - I personally believe Shen Sett is the new Shen Jarvan, or Shen Fiora once you see that interaction of Sett getting barrier on attack triggering a.cascade of effects and generally being cheaper and harder to kill then jarvan you won't go back.

    4. Azir Irelia - fallen sands general is a pretty solid finisher for this deck when sometimes it feels like your deck doesn't do enough on its own and you just need that little extra late game. Not a deck I play but pretty sure you can just copy paste a list and add him.

Again, this is just the beginning for me. While a lot of players will A use old tier lists for Eternal or B meme with a dumb otk wincon I will continue to provide quality decks that win not because they are amazing but because they are well balanced and durable.

  • The Grand Almost-Finale - Card Design Competition Discussion Thread

I love custom cards and i've wanted a big class/expansion competition since forever. Sadly, after 8 or so years of daily play i began losing interest in Hearthstone. Got into it's mother game World of Warcraft. I'm sorry and i'm sad as well these weekly competitions have gotten basically dead. It's a real shame. Used to stay up will 1 am to see the new theme.

  • MARVEL SNAP OTA Balance Update Buffs 2 Cards, Nerfs 2 Cards

True. I don't really understand this change. She's a tool to be kept for the right moment, so doesn't need too much power. I would've changed her to a 3-3 for example, to make her more accessible with other cards. Definitely not buff her power.

I think Snap is going the wrong way of looking at the top x% players and how they play, and not caring about the rest. Wonder why...

I haven't really had the motivation to give feedback for the past two comps because there's next to no-one here. :(

I personally don't really feel the need to have a large group of participants, I mostly enjoy having the regulars here. That being said, I do understand that it must be very discouraging when the participation drops like this. Most certainly since you're very involved. So I really hope it gets back up soon.

I actually wanted to participate this week, but I had a hard time finding anything interesting. Finale is just such an awkward keyword, almost certainly my least favorite one yet. There's just not really a purpose to the requirement. You can still play the cards on curve and you can still profit from their effects despite not having any Mana left (unless they would make finale cards with +spell damage or similar, but that defeats the purpose and they know those wouldn't see play). I would have rather seen something like "Does something at the end of the turn it was played."

I still ended up with something that I believe works well, but I just hope Blizzard isn't running out of ideas...

I'm not saying this is the main reason we've been seeing less participation these past few weeks or anything like that. It was just something I wanted to talk about.

  • Further Proof Runeterra Need Eternal Ladder

So the 3 year anniversary celebration for Runeterra is happening right now.

It's a great chance for new players to get old champions, and for established players to get free currency.

One problem though Nora and Bard are essentially unplayable in standard.

In eternal they are solid cards bard can turbo buff elusives with Zoe, and Nora can easily slot into grindy control decks with her infinite board value.

It's just another case out of 10,000 why Runeterra standard is less a "format" for an established game and more a quick trimming of the card pool to keep a small subsect of players happy while screwing the long term fans who helped it reach 3 years in the first place.

Here's a 3 year anniversary idea, we are making eternal ladder ever green to support the player base the helped make our game great

There's an announcement I can get behind.

Don't get me wrong casual eternal is amazing but winning every game does nothing for me, when it should be just as valuable as it is in standard.

  • Death Knight Nerfs & Card Balance Changes Announced - Patch Goes Live Today

What do you know, everyone is still playing BBB Death Knight!

  • Hearthstone to Receive 28 Balance Changes on Thursday + Death Knight Class Nerf

Im not even sure it goes into blood DK, because post turn 2 there's really not much breathing room in that deck to play a 2 mana do nothing. And that's essentially what it was. Fortunately, with the buff to Spitelash Siren, this shit card has now peaked to being at least playable in one deck.

As for the mage spell comment. Well, Frozen Touch is clearly OP but there are other spells that are impactful. Like Blizzard, Deathborne, the very tilting Objection! and its equally hated sister Counterspell. Not to mention utility cards like Solid Alibi, card draw options, freeze, damage, etc. There are good mage spells in the pool the main problem with Infinitize the Maxitude is that the card is nigh unplayable. Compare this with Vast Wisdom for example and there's an even chance you'll go for that instead of a card whose conditions is atrociously hard to fulfill.

  • The patch did nothing :/

Cant say that I had the same experience. Haven't seen a single DK all day, and Ive been pushing more than my usual quota of hearthstone games today. Lots of warriors, doubtless trying out the riffs and discovering after 3 games as I have, that they're all still shit.

If youre trying to climb quickly up, you can try secret coc rogue or face midrange hunter which can absolutely win against blood DK, though its more a 50-50 against frost DK. Should easily beat all the warrior tryhards. Might be a bit testy with naga mages or implocks.

  • The patch did nothing :/

    Yep, read the title.

I’m at diamond 9 trying to hit 5 for the free pack and every other game is still either a Blood or Frost DK. Blizzard needs to bite the bullet at this point and just restrict discovery from other rune cards as well. I find it ridiculous that Blood DK, the control deck, can just start digging through Frost and Unholy rune cards for more damage/board whenever it needs it. Like what’s the point of the rune system at this point if all of the runes can just bypass their rune identities and weaknesses through Discover.

I really hope it gets better past day 1 at least, but I don’t see any new decks at all despite all of the buffs given to so many archetypes. DK needs to be brought more in line, and cards like Marrow Manipulator and The Scourge needs to get nerfed/reverted because a 5/5 with Pyroblast is just absurd, and a 7 mana spell which just completely flips the board is not okay either.

Like, good luck beating that with Thori’belor (I love this change though, thanks Blizz for making it what it should have been from the start).

  • Just give me a reason...

Had a slightly different case, but I'll tell you anyway.

Started playing HS a long (not so long - from koft launch) time ago and could not climb the ladder because its hard for me emotionally. Then once I created a topic about it on this forum. And after the response of people and words of support, I began to try my best to rise in rank every day. At that moment, the wild quest hunter was also a strong and fun deck. I don't know if it's a coincidence, skill or luck, but with a big winrate, I easily achieved a legend for the first time in my life. In the following months, I reached legend 2-3 more times.

After that, I got tired of the monotonous broken op wild decks. Played a little of battlegrounds with friends and went to play Legends of Runeterra. Maybe this game is less popular, but there are some very interesting mechanics and it's definitely worth a try. I'm sure that one day I will miss Heartstone and return again.

Sooner or later, even the most beloved things are forgotten, bored or cease to please us. It's worth just doing something else or getting distracted for some time.

  • MARVEL SNAP OTA Balance Update Buffs 2 Cards, Nerfs 2 Cards

Really surprised they skipped over the possibility of giving Enchantress 5-Power and went straight to 6. Seems like quite the jump - I was already using her a bit, and now I have barely any reason not to lol.

  • Death Knight Nerfs & Card Balance Changes Announced - Patch Goes Live Today

But the way unholy plays marrowgar is simply a way out where most aggro decks dont get any. The real strength of UUU decks is Grave Strength, which is quickly turning my eyes back into its sockets.

The deck is simply stronger with marrowgar despite its obvious weakness. Certain decks that cant do board clears will immediately fold to it.

  • Death Knight Nerfs & Card Balance Changes Announced - Patch Goes Live Today

Well, I was expecting slightly different than simply disallowing discovers for triple rune cards. For starters, I think some of their cards simply needs slight nerfs. Bone Breaker and Plague Strike are two cards that absolutely needs touching for example.

But really, the one issue I have with DK is not even its powerlevel, its the fact that the class is built to run on extremes. Blood DK and Frost DK is practically the extreme examples of an archetype you can find and its sadly warping the meta. It makes the whole meta more about who you face rather than the solidity of your deck itself. Lots of decks are going greed because blood DK is such a fucking slog, and then you queue into a frost DK and get your arse kicked sideways.

I was thinking team5 might actually revise the power levels and make it more interesting to actually mix up the runes. The rune system was supposed to make deck building more interesting but its ironically now doing the exact opposite. Why, for example, would anyone bother playing anything that isn't a triple rune deck? I guess one day I'll see an absolutely OP card being printed for each triple rune combinations because there wouldn't be any reason to play them without it. This is just an illusion of variety where none actually exist.

Okay, let's move on from that and focus on the buffs.

    - Played lots of warrior today. And I can say resolutely that the riffs are still shit though much less shit than it was previously. Anything that's not enrage warrior feels clumsy, overcosted, and completely unable to affect tempo. It feels a lot like playing one card per turn and praying your opponent cant remove it.

If you want to play warrior, just play enrage. At least that deck can snowball well as opposed to riffs or menagerie that are slow as shit

    - Ive seen implock doing well but admitably havent gone round to try it. But looking at the buffs, there's definitely something there, because Crazed Conductor can absolutely win you the game out of nowhere.

    - Ive seen lots of shaman trying overload but thus far its a bit mild. Still cant see it top the excellent swarm-totem shaman build that at very least can contest against anything that's not frost DK

    - Rogues will be jamming those cocs for a long time. The changes to blingtron is just nuts, but likely not nuts enough for it to see play outside of menagerie rogue

    Edit:

    - Just to add one more to the list, because it cropped out hard a few games after I wrote my initial impressions.

Naga mage may be legit. Seems like we already forgotten the shit Spitelash Siren was hurling at opponents before it got nerfed to oblivion. Probably a mistake from team5 because that deck in sunken city was good but its main crime was its bs game plan. And here we are, introducing it back again, expecting it to be less tilting than it was before.

Now with Rewind, this deck is just taking the piss. Again, we are asking team5 to just cut the crap and disallow all these card slinging to go past the fucking rope. I dont mind my opponent playing 100 cards as long as they're using their time to do it. What I do mind is having to see card after card being played by my opponent when its MY turn.

Twig buffed to refresh 20 mana XD

  • MARVEL SNAP's Choose Your Card Shop is Making Things Worse

I seem to be in the minority, but I really enjoy their card release system -- the most fun I had was finishing Series 2 and early Series 3, where I would take my far-from-optimal deck and faced similarly janky brews.

In particular, the acquisition rate once you're finished with Series 2 is great, even if you're completely free-to-play. Since you're getting 5-6 cards every month, you can still outpace their release schedule of 1 card per week.

Finally, while the change to the Series 3 shop is theoretically worse than before, in practice, it's the opposite. I only bought 0-1 card per month while working through Series 3, so getting a card PLUS tokens would have been awesome.

If DK was able to have this reverted in the future, I'm sure it would come with a lot of triple rune cards getting nerfed.  We'd start seeing Marrowgar only able to rez 5 minions with a cap on their Atk/Hth, Frostwyrm's only able to target minions with reduced damage, or even Vamp only giving 5 health and the corpses spent draw you a card.

I know this is off topic, but you made me think about how cool and powerful a card Marrowgar is, and yet how it pretty much just clears a board and VERY rarely sets up lethal. Imagine a card like that in vanilla days: Equality/Consecration, Mass Dispel, Brawl, Twisting Nether or Vanish ... or you're dead.

I just assembled an Unholy DK deck to kill off some of the achievements and I am using Lord Marrowgar for that reason.  Unholy can swarm and create a gnarly board presence, he is the one card to help bring balance on a turn.

On a side note... I have had a TON of fun running Blightfang and then hitting their own minions with Death Growl.  Bonus points if you have an Arms Dealer in play when they start dying.  Getting a handful of 3/2 taunting zombies that add more corpses to your pool to fire off a Boneshredder or Marrowgar is wonderful.

I think that a key reason why Bliz decided to just stop triple rune discoveries is exactly what you referred to here.  Hearthstone was based in WoW and it's talent trees.  There was a huge controversy a number of years ago about Class Identity and there was a lot of changes made to make sure that the tactics of one class don't necessarily bleed into another.  Which is why you'll find high damage spells in Mage, but not necessarily in Priest or Warlock.  You're giving up versatility for focus.  Being able to grab Climactic Necrotic Explosion when you're playing an Unholy deck is ungodly since you create and spend so many corpses with that rune.

Another one on that level is as mentioned before, getting Vampiric Blood with a Frost DK build is just stupid, plain and simple, let alone gaining another few copies of Frostwyrm's Fury.  The triple rune cards are supposed to be representative of the focus you're playing, and I totally agree with your sentiment that teching against blood DK just to have them pull out Frost cards is breaking the identity of the classes.
