  • Stop! Doomhammer Time! - Card Design Competition Discussion Thread

    Staff

    Competition Theme: Stop! Doomhammer Time!

This week we're honoring a mighty weapon of Warcraft lore. Hit 'em hard, then hit 'em again!

    • You must make a "package" of three (3) Shaman cards that work together to form the start of a "Doomhammer archetype" in a theoretical expansion.
      • At least one of them must reference Doomhammer by name in the text, in a supportive/synergistic way.
        • The others can have general weapon-synergy traits, but should still encourage the use of Doomhammer.

Chegwin and Linkblade91 are getting ready to drop the hammer on their enemies. Let's join in the fray!

As always, we can be reached through Discord or here on the site via PM if you have any issues to report.

  • Who wins at a tie?

If there's a tie for one of the spots, it's whoever has the greater victory at the spot they won.

    For example:

    • Their locations are 15 20 15
    • Your locations are 10 20 25

In this situation, you lost the left by 5, tied the middle, and won the right by 10. Your 10 is higher than their 5, so you win the game. Don't go by total Power like some people (and the game) say, specifically because the Bar With No Name screws that up: the location says something like "Whoever has the least Power here wins", so you can't go by your total Power because it's actually a detriment in that spot.

  • Who wins at a tie?

Sometimes I win, sometimes my opponent. How does the game decides who ins if we tie in one location, one location I win, the other my opponent?

  • Player vs bots : an unglorious and odd story

    Pro

Congrats, that's a really cool achievement. I hope your situation gets better soon.

Regarding the bot situation, I'm experiencing the same at the moment. I've decided to try and go for triple legend this month as in all three game modes on EU and so far, I'm facing like 95% bots in Classic. Once you figured out how they work, they're fairly easy to beat and it seems like ranking up is more of a question of patience than anything else. Might yet change though, I've only reached the platinum ranks so far. I'm a little confused why Blizzard keeps the mode alive and tolerates the bots at this point to be honest.

  • Games since we're Out of Games

    I personally would enjoy some:

Pokemon as mentioned (as it gives content frecuently enough) (Also a Turn Based Strategy Game)

Zelda would be massive to cover, but that is a good thing.

Biased but Payday 2 is still going after 10 years but might be dead now that Payday 3 is coming out this year.

Advance Wars Reboot Camp and Wargroove 2 (when it comes out) as I think CCG players and Turn Based Strategy Games go well with the same pople.

Megaman Battle Network Legacy Collection: Its combat is different and includes deck building. Pretty neat concept.

Could think of more games such as anything Star Wars related (has lot of reach) as well as Tycoon style games (I think it could go with the current audicence pretty well) but that would become overwhelming to read.

  • I Take One Week Off And This Happens

I'm literally just playing cards and swinging but your decks are so poorly built ans fragile that they can't do anything about it.

Pssst troll chant it exists in eternal learn your cards!

It's okay it's called standard brain where playing the biggest creatures somehow matters

Well guess what eternal is agile and flexible, add your godamn burst spells you chump.

  • I Take One Week Off And This Happens

Everyone's forgotten how to play Nifty Eternal again.

I keep drilling into everyone's heads wincons wincons.wincons.

Synergy, synergy, synergy and all I see when I come back from a small break is do nothing garbage.

And not the good kind of do nothing garbage like Nora.

But press F to concede garbage that literally shouldn't be built in the first place.

I know it's still a long time till Eternal ladder but I expect more from all of you.

Cuz Nifty is forever, he comes back same list he's been playing for what 6 months now, and you can't beat yordles!

Rofl omg you guys are so bad.

Yeeeep, new golden rule if you can't beat meme tribal decks its time to learn how to deck build...sorry but thats how it is.

And you guys call yourself good players or something.

You see Nifty grow up on the hard streets of brew Town. No deck trackers, no tier lists, no help, no getting carried by better players or stats analytics. Just me, me, and more me.

Thats why I'm the king of Eternal

I'm not sure what they can do to keep the same feeling of progression, not give everyone everything too quickly, make profits, not make the game pay2win or pay2play, and still feel generous in what they give out.

Got a few ideas of my own, but it's useless to mention them anyway. Hopefully they hit the jackpot eventually to make almost everyone happy.

    1) Generosity- This links back to the background story, but more. I believe I opened around 60 HS packs out of the new expansion, but only "won" one legendary out of packs. In Snap, the feeling is that F2P have access to the strongest of cards, for "legendary" cards are not a grantee win.

Not to be a Cynical Sally, but this peters off when you're neck-deep in Series 3 and can't acquire the cards you want. There are *so* many Series 3 cards now that getting a specific individual card can be a nightmare, as our own sule explained a week ago. The one free card-per-Season is not enough; after that, you're at the complete mercy of the Collector's Reserve chests containing what you want, and that's assuming they drop a card in the first place :/ We really need the "1000 tokens for a Series 3 card" offer to reappear, at the very least. Gives us back the freedom to spend our tokens how we want.

I really enjoy Marvel Snap, don't get me wrong; I'm trying (and failing) to ween myself off Hearthstone even as I ramp back up in my Snap-ing. I have multiple decks I find fun and their design philosophy of "play with what you have" is not entirely misguided in my opinion. But the early-game generosity definitely falls away after a point, as the mid-game stress comes to a head, and going a couple weeks without seeing a card you want enter your collection can be rather disheartening.

As a personal example, "play with what (I) have" isn't all it's cracked up to be when I pull Discard cards left-and-right and I thoroughly dislike the concept...

...sorry, now I'm the one ranting lol.

I have been playing HS even before NAX (I think 2013), and can't stop ever since (though I restarted with new accounts like three or four times).

I think what you want to say is that the new player experience is great, but once you are in "the thick of it", things change. I hope not, but then again, I've been playing Snap for merely two weeks, so we will wait and see.

The new player experience in H was great, they worked really hard on it, and it shows. After that, if you don;t play Druid or DK, you don't really have a chance. I know Paladin is gaining traction, but with few twinks to my DK list, I don't lose to them anymore.

HS does offer a lot with arena, brawl, and playground. But the tactic and strategy part of the game is missing.

There's actually quite a nice variety of archetypes going around atm which is refreshing. Dare I say this meta is still evolving?

  • MARVEL SNAP Developers Confirm That High Evolutionary is a Series 5 "Big Bad"

They should do a battle event between good and evil, with very light deck restrictions (e.g. only one evil or good 6 cost card allowed). Who chose good battle the ones who chose evil. Etc.

  • Snap Vs Hearthstone (not a rant thread)

I had the privilege to reopen a Hearthstone account and was severely disappointed  when we didn't get the full dust refund for the rotation. I was waiting for the refund to craft some wild cards and have some fun in wild (I know the meta in wild is problematic, but trying out fun concepts was always the more fun aspects of the game).

So, while keeping the minimum amount of time  at Hearthstone, I started a Marvel Snap account and started to play (I also tried some other mobile games, but Snap is the only one that stuck for now, besides Hearthstone). While playing it, I found that Ben Brode and his team learned some valuable lessons and made a game that is  better (at least in some aspects). There are things for the hearthstone team to learn here, or I fear Hearthstone will loose traction, as more games will take chunks off the field.

Note: I am leaving out the fact that Snap games resolve quicker, for that is a personal reference, and some people may enjoy the longer matches.

    2) Strategy- HS lost its strategy edge. Yes, you still need to know how to pilot some decks, but usually the power level of Druid, or DK, will solve the match. In Snap, where you put your cards, and the order you play has significance. Just the play of different locations makes for a different game experience.

I am sure there are more, but that is enough for now.

Whatever you you choose to play, though, have fun :)

Important detail, always put the locations on the left so as not to block interactions with Death Growl and synergize with your hero power that always summons the minion on the right

Seemingly every Totem Shaman I go against has The Stonewright in their opening hand; it can be disheartening after multiple games of it in a day. Guess that's what I get for playing Rogue during this rare moment of time the class isn't good 😕
