Is the next expansion even that imminent? The last wing of the solo content for the last expansion was just released a couple weeks ago. I figure we are at least 8 weeks away. Still lots of time to save. That being said, I do really like the pacing this last expansion brought. The delayed release for the solo content, the arena switch ups, the card buffs, and even the one by one opening of the wings really kept things fresh. It's actually quite amazing that we're even close to new expansion season again!
Last year the announcement for the summer expansion (Boomsday) happened at July 10th. They've been similar timings for other summer expansions.
So yes, the next expansion announcement will come between now and about a week from now or so.
And yes, that's part of the trip of this last set. The release schedule of teh Heist, the nerfs, and the buffs all resulted in us not having time to really get bored before the next expansion. I'm seeing a good few others getting surprised that we're already at the station for the HYPE TRAIN.
As far as the OP, IIRC, abtou 3600 or so gold and 6k dust. But we have another month to save which gives another 1500 gold and we typically get around 10 packs free in various places, so I'm set for getting about 60 packs, which is where I aim for in pack collecting. Also if you are F2P you can use the first month of the expansion for more packs, so that's another 1500 gold or 15 more packs.
...which is good because I just realized I'm close to the pity timer on the last set so I really should open a few more packs there to finish up.
I will say this though, if they have another big single player content like last time I'll have to bow out this time I think as i don't think I'll have the gold to get a full expansion AND enough for the fall set. Meh.
Exactly this. I always give my opponent the benefit of the doubt and always Greet them at the start of every game. If they start getting Emote Happy I'll squelch.
However, I have to admit to hitting the 'Wow' Button a lot when I'm about to beat a Big Priest. Because Big Priest players deserve it.
Not to defend Big Priest players specifically, but if you think anyone deserves to be BMed, then you deserve it back. There will always be stupid or oppressive decks in the game, be it big priest or something else, just cause ppl are playing those shouldnt make it ok to pick on them. And whoever thinks it is ok, is part of the problem honestly.
But people play BP because they know it is broken and they know that upsets the average Wild player.
No other reason can explain a deck being the most popular one in the meta at all ranks, without being neither top tier nor cheap.
And isn't this the very definition of BM? Doing something knowing/hoping to upset your opponent?
So I'm not sure who is part of the problem, especially if we consider that choosing BP technically comes before any emoting...
Surely, they are allowed to play BP according to the rules. But at that point, people are also allowed to BM, still according the rules, because squelch exist. So game rules are not a point, if BM is considered a problem.
Strongly disagree there. Using the Mtg personality types, BP is a classic "Timmy" deck: it appeals to players who like to win with big minions, big spells, massive overkill, even if that's not strictly the most powerful or consistent game plan. This in contrast to Spike, who just wants to win and Johnny, who likes combos and weird card interactions.
Is it possible that some players pick BP for no other reason than to be dicks? Sure. But I think a much more plausible explanation for the deck's "unwarranted" popularity is that it's actually pretty strong *for a deck that wins with humongous minions*. Not to mention being fairly simple to play correctly, unlike say Cyclone mage.
I think part of the problem currently, is BP is the only viable Priest deck atm
Pirate Warrior is around 2% of the meta. It's the best Warrior deck in the meta (basically the only viable one for the class), and higher tier than BP, which yet is above 10% of the meta at all levels.
Exactly this. I always give my opponent the benefit of the doubt and always Greet them at the start of every game. If they start getting Emote Happy I'll squelch.

I occasionally play BP, but not because it's going to annoy or trigger my opponent. Some times when I'm having a shitty day of Hearthstone I just need some wins to brighten my day a little, and BP is the easiest way to get them!
I am an advocate for nerfing Barnes to summon a 1/1 token with the effect of a minion in your deck, just FYI. It actually improves the flavor of the card if he summons an Actor "playing the role" of a minion in the deck, while also muddying the rez pool in Big Priest. Realistically, you could now nerf Barnes, he still maintains the intended effect in most other scenarios, and if he falls out of BP lists those BP players now have Vargoth to fill that void and the deck is still crazy good! In fact, Vargoth may be a better 4 drop than Barnes in that deck.
All reports say BP is NOT a good deck for winrate. It's just decent.
You feel happy because you overpowered your opponent with silly interactions, while having very little responsibility in it (with card draw on both sides heavily deciding the outcome).
Even if you are not trying to upset your opponent, that's still how it is perceived: it feels like a game of chess against a pigeon sh1tting on the board (which is why Blizz should take action and obliterate this deck and anything similar).
Yet you could win more easily with other decks with better winrates, while being still very easy to pilot (eg Even Shaman).
PS: no it's not the same, again because of winrates (in the meta). Odd Paladin is OP and maybe toxic at low ranks. BP is just toxic without even being OP. That's why OP is on another level of "bad".

I had more but I was dumb and bought some packs recently. Sitting just under 3000, will likely get a $50 pre-purchase bundle, or perhaps an $80 bundle instead if one exists and has good extra value.
Exactly this. I always give my opponent the benefit of the doubt and always Greet them at the start of every game. If they start getting Emote Happy I'll squelch.

EDIT: Also, your argument of why BP players deserve to be BM'ed could be applied to any top meta deck being played at a low rank. Many of those BP players could be like me: only playing Wild occasionally. Therefore, they'd be low rank and picking up an easy to play deck to just get some quick feel good wins!

While we're waiting for official card design contests to become a feature on this site, I propose a little design game. I'm loving the art-based challenge in another thread, but I wish to offer an alternative challenge. It seems that a lot of cards, both in the game and in people's custom creations, are created from scratch for Hearthstone. There's nothing wrong with this, of course, as Hearthstone is it's own fun, lighthearted entity and has a distinct identity from it's parent World of Warcraft. However, I do enjoy going back to the roots of the lore and theme and therefor issue a challenge to design spell cards named after-- and with a similar effect to-- actual spells from that game.
Here are the rules:
1. The spells may be taken from any point in Wow's history including talents. Enemy or boss-unique spells are also allowed.
2. The name must be exact and the effect reflective to what the spell does in the game.
3. Each submission will consist of one card and the choice of category for the next submission. (ie, picking a class for the spell to be from, a talent, from X expansion, from X dungeon/raid, etc.)
4. Art is ideally of Warcraft directly, but other fantasy art is acceptable as long as it shows a fantasy-type picture in a related art style that demonstrates the spell's effects well, (ie, no photos or cartoons/anime please)
To demonstrate, here is my own concept of the pally spell "Cleanse Toxins".
Next submission must be a warrior ability. Have fun everyone. :)
My NA, EU and Asia accounts are all around 3000 - 3500 gold and 15K - 20K dust.
All are f2p so won't be buying packs with real money, but hopefully they should hit 5.5K - 6K on expac launch and after progressing to the next pity timer on each account will just stop buying and use dust for anything super important (depending on what I pack/new meta etc).
Rafaam is highly debatable whether you should even have him in the zoolock decks at all. He's a last ditch desperation move that almost never works very well at all. Just call up decks with Rafaam in them, on hsreplay, and check the "winrate when played" for Rafaam ... (Edit: I'll save you the trouble. Winrate when played is pretty much 30%. So, you play Rafaam, you are basically just losing.)
I'll pick your post to clarify: i never said rafaam is overpowered and needs to get nerfed, all i said is that i really don't like the card as a concept. Aside from the fact that it might always get better depending on the average value of legendaries (rexxar had 40%ish wr when played before ww), im really comparing those two as of the concept of the card is that you are turning your aggro plan on its head to get more steam late game.
What i said is that an effect like that would be better if it complemented a control deck rather than an aggro one, because the idea is more in tune with the philosophy of the archetype, where you can handle having a dead card in hand until late where removal tools are no longer useful and you can turn them into legendaries to get additional value (that's how the golden monkey was used).
I have a lot of golden legendaries, but I never crafted any of them. Instead, I dusted some (Kazakus, Onixya at least, maybe one more or two).
I prefer to craft 2 legendaries instead of 1 golden. IF there was a single card or two that I would have crafted golden, they would have been my favourite legendaries: Lord Jaraxxus and Cairne. As both aren't played anymore (the first is literally unplayable and it probably forever will be) I'm glad I never crafted them.

In my experience emote-spam is usually gloating by players who think they've got the game in the bag. While squelching does solve the problem, there's huge personal satisfaction to be had from actually winning and emoting back that "wow" as you go in for lethal.
Each expansion I craft 4-6 golden legendaries to prevent getting nongolden versions. It's usually both rogue cards and some that I think will be good/fun.
Yes i dit. Most of my decks i play in wild are all golden now. When an expansion drops i just craft the legendary ones i want in gold, so i dont get the normal version out of the packs. Someone would say im just addicted. :D
