And while you are right saying that it's a user driven things, it's also true that if they don't find a place, they won't do it. This is why I suggested a generic ccg section instead of a set of sub category for every game or something like that. For example, the guy that started talking about eternal has almost sold it to me, I'm thinking about trying it. I would like not to have to look for a site specific for that, but instead going there where there is a community I like.
Often people don't understand that if something isn't forbidden you can do it, they'll wait for the right place in the right moment. However, you can wait to see if more people are willing to use this feature of course, I just wanted to share the idea :P
I would buy 3 of them (1 on each realm, if it's possible) but since they are only available in the Blizzard Launcher / Website there is no chance to get them at discounted price with Amazon Coins. I know, for some of you it might sound greedy, but still don't forget, it's a lot of money and when I buy Hearthstone stuff, why not use the Amazon Coins advantage?
Thief Priest is a very fun archetype, and it can go the distance against big or control decks.
The problem, as usual, is priest has very few viable early game options, and token aggro. Which the meta has a lot of. Shaman, druid, Zoolock and some hunters all can snowball faster than a 5-mana board clear in some cases.
Most importantly, synergy cards and little garbage minions like murlocs and treants don't make good random steals. Thief Priest archetype died in Un'Goro when shaman started evolving little garbage, and it got worse in following expansions as paladin joined in with the Silver Hand recruit spam and rogue went to weapons-based decks (or quest).
For Thief Priest to succeed, it would need multiple ways to STEAL MINIONS ON TABLE. Think Potion of Madness or a small taunt with a Sylvanas-like deathrattle. You have your opponents' minions killing themselves and leaving you deathrattle prizes, then there's a chance. The problem from this though, is you dilute the rez pool, if part of your strategy revolves around bringing minions back.
As Out of Cards isn't an hearthstone only site as some competitors of old, I think that we should change a little how we handle discussion about things that aren't hearthstone related.
How things are now: we have a big section called "Hearthstone" that contains a lot of different things about our favourite game, a smaller section called "Magic the Gathering" with things related to different media (Magic Arena and paper magic, but more Arena of course), a "Fan Creation" section that seems to be Hearthstone related, and an "Off Topic" with a "video game" subsection.
What I propose: while it's clear that Hearthstone is the most important reason people come here, we must say that there can be more. So I propose to change the section Magic related to one called something like "Other Collective Card Game", with a Magic subsection and an other sub section. Maybe now it would be nearly empty, but in future, who knows? Yugioh, Eternal, Elder Scroll Legends, Artifacts, the secret thing I'm working on, there are a lot of CCG on the market people can discuss on. For the same reason, in the "Fan Creation" section we should have a section for creations that aren't Hearthstone related. I loved how on hearthpwn there were the card creation contest, I know that it's a feature that will be implemented, but there is no reason to stop around Hearthstone. Why not support people who make fan card of Magic? Or Yugioh? Or who want to share arts or code or projects for new ccg? Both are things that shouldn't go in a "video game" under "off topic" section, that is for things that aren't ccg.
I saw that there are now at least 2/3 thread dedicated to other ccg, so sooner or later it can be something implemented.
25k gold can be gotten in a couple weeks or so ... might be faster in the early days of playing. You get minimum 50 gold each win, either casual or ranked. Every third win in ranked is worth 200-250. Rewards have a 10% chance to upgrade to the next tier higher of reward. Daily quests reward about 500 gold.
Rewards summarized:
Bronze chest - 50-60 gold, 1 random common card
Silver chest - 200-250 gold, 1 random uncommon card
Daily quest will either be two silver chests, or one gold chest. In ranked, your first two wins are 1 bronze chest each, third win is silver (but once you get three silver this way, the third win becomes two bronze). In casual, it's just 1 bronze chest per win (two bronze chest every third win).
Oh! And your first win every day (ranked or casual) is worth one pack, straight up, from the most recent set. Each pack contains one rare, three uncommons, and 8 commons. There is about a 10% chance that the rare is a legendary instead of a rare. There is no epic quality card, and the pack always contains 3 uncommons, 8 commons; the 12th card is either rare or legendary. No pity timer on legendaries, but the 10% chance definitely bears out over time. Unfortunately, there are a lot of cards (and you can have 4 of each legendary, just like you can have 4 of any card), and the deck size is 75 cards. So, they are very generous, but the game structure kind of demands it.
Lastly, during your first couple of weeks playing, they will throw entire decks at you for free, which they call "theme decks." You get all the cards in the deck for free in that case, mostly uncommons and commons, but always a few rares as well. You also get starter cards for completing the introductory campaign. So, you have playable decks immediately, but they are not exactly what you'd call competitive :). However, some of those cards are important cards in competitive decks, so they are not useless.
Edit: You can target a few select legendaries by purchasing theme decks as well. They have theme decks in the store for 3k gold, some of which have a single legendary card in them. So, 3k for one legendary and a few rares ... along with all the commons and uncommons in the deck as well. It's not a bad idea as a new player to buy one of two of those, but I'm not sure which ones are best to buy.
I don't play hs that frequently atm (I'm enjoying Heroes 3 HotA a lot more), but here are some pics I would like to share with you guys:
Against Murloc Shaman
I don't remember much from that game, since it took place a couple of days ago. But I remember, that I struggled a lot back then - the opponent had a really aggressive start and put me dangerously low on health, before I managed to exhaust them and to heal myself with a Greater Healing Potion.
The reason why I found that match to be funny was the fact, that I almost died by the opponent's stupid murlocs and at the end, after I stabilized, I gave them a taste of their own medicine. Unfortunately for me, the shaman player hit the concede button, before I could kill them with Bloodlust. If only I could!
Against Pocket Galaxy Value Mage
Picture this - the opponent managed to cast Luna's Pocket Galaxy on turn 5. And...
... I don't know what to say...
about that, except...
...bless the patch, which allowed copying cost reduced cards to be played with their new cost. You don't know how excited I was, when the mage opponent cast that spell on turn 5, while I had a Thoughtsteal in hand and drew Crystalline Oracles and Twilight's Call later on. I was like a child in a sweetshop. My first stolen minion was Medivh, the Guardian and in the first pic I top-decked Mind Control just when the mage played The Lich King.
It was very satisfying to turn the opponent's deck against them and, luckily for me, they were a fighter. They stood almost throughout the entire match and managed to deal with my BS, which made the game even more enjoyable for me. So thank you, kind stranger.
I would love to, but HSReplay doesn't have enough Wild statistics to make a matchup chart or any general archetype statistics, and I don't think there's any other site out there with larger/better stat system than them.
I feel like in order to cycle through your deck you have to kinda throw away a lot of spells.
the only 2 cost spells you have are Ancestral Spirit and Big Bad Voodoo so in order to cycle through them you have to spend them on a totem or frog guy. and also ancestral healing does not have very many good targets before turn 5/6, and having to use it on a totem/frog does not seem like something you would want to do.
it feels silly to throw away your spells just to draw different spells. spirit of the frog is not getting you very much card advantage if you are gaining one card for each one card you cast, and if the first spells are somewhat wasted then what was even the point?
I think the random nature of thief cards is where it has a hard time gaining traction. You just can't create a concrete game plan. Sometimes you get lucky but others you might just get a random card. If they made thief cards that were more deliberate and targeted this might change.
I don't think this is the reason why the thief package can't take off atm. I don't want to brag, but back in RR I had a lot of success with two wild Thief Priest decks - one faster (that utilized a lot of cheap deathrattle minions) and one slower (that ran some meme cards like Chameleos). And the reason why I managed to win a lot of games and even reach Legend was due to the amazing control basis and the presence of Shadow Visions, which the class provides in that format. Priest's AoEs are massive, relatively cheap and can clear almost every board - Mass Hysteria, Lightbomb, Psychic Scream and Shadowreaper Anduin. As for healing I used Amara, Warden of Hope and some Greater Healing Potions. All of those things helped me survive the opponent's aggression.
Exactly this is missing in standard. Priests can't afford to run a defensive, value-oriented deck; otherwise they would easily die. The fact, that the cards, which could be generated from Thoughtsteal or Madame Lazul, are random and "can't create a concrete gameplan", isn't that big of an issue. I remember the time back in LoE, when Control priests used to prolong the whole game and win just by outvaluing the opponent.
Make sure you actually go in to the deck to fix the bug and don't just click auto complete thinking it's already complete (which I did) as it does change cards in the deck for you!
Rakano aggro is still an effective budget deck ... as you get higher in the ladder ranks, you'd need a fair number of rares, but you can do it without legendaries. Token decks aren't a huge thing these days, but Grenadin drone still sees play in some decks.
Ahhhh. Ok then. So what sets would I need to buy into to catch up a little? And what sets do I need to avoid?
But the most important campaign, IMO, is called "Into Shadow." This gives you several of the most powerful legendary units currently in the game: Vara, Vengeance Seeker; Azindel, Revealed; and Telut, Queen's Hand. All three of these legendaries are major inclusions in a variety of different decks.
After Into Shadow, probably "Homecoming" is the next most important campaign, followed by "Dead Reckoning."
The campaigns each cost 25k gold, or 1k gems (currency). I stress again: Campaigns are the most important things to get for building a base from which to construct good decks. Quite a few cards from several different campaigns are critical pieces of most highly-competitive decks.
I don't really recommend buying specific card packs - you mostly just want to craft anything that you are trying to get (with such a huge card pool, and needing 4 copies of cards for decks, you rarely get close to your deck needs by opening packs). But you do get 100 shiftstone (dust) automatically with each pack, so that helps a little bit toward crafting. As is often the case with card games, the most recent set is probably the best place to start; otherwise maybe the original expac (The Empty Throne) probably is good as well. Many cards from that original set are still used, especially certain legendaries.
Lastly, here's a quick list I threw together (mostly borrowed from another list that was posted on the site, but its a VERY standard list for Rakano Aggro; doesn't really belong to anyone). I added "sideboard" rares that can be used to upgrade the budget list. https://eternalwarcry.com/decks/d/NYuJCK2lNo8/a-budget-rakano-aggro
25k gold for a campaing is something you can easily or hardly get as a ftp only player? I have spent much money on Hearthstone, and before that Yugioh, and I promise to never do it again :P (except maybe some team fortress hat)
