I like overkilling my opponents. For example, if he's at 10 health and I have 20-attack worth of damage on the board, I'll make sure I whittle his health close to 1, then deliver lethal with my highest attack minion so I can see his health points in the negative. The higher the negative points, the better.
Regarding Magic Carpet I've been unimpressed with it in the few games I tried. Seems like a bit of a win more card in that it does nothing w/o the cards you already rely on to win, lackeys and pogos. You also have Zilliax(es) and rushy lackeys, not to mention vanish and whatever spells your spell lackey gives you, so the effect is a bit redundant.
How is carpet a win more card?? It literally helps you play from behind. With bounce effects, you can use one pogo to clear a board. By themselves, the bounce effects don't do anything other than add +2/+2 to a minion that can be cleared before it does achieves anything... maybe it's only working for me because I'm running more of those and less shuffle mechanics than the average pogo deck
Secret Hunter is the bomb, I'm surprised there aren't many people playing it. I have a 60% win rate with it in 180+ games played, and I have positive win rates against Hunters, Rogues, Warriors (surprisingly) and Mages (currently 21-7 against this class). I must thank all the Bomb/Mech Hunters out there though, it's possible my opponents are game-planning against that archetype so their starting hands almost always suck against me :P
Maybe Vessina, partly because I don't have any other Shaman alternative hero (even though there are three already). I am yet to play Rogue, Paladin and Warlock so I can't give a solid opinion about those yet as voicelines are also essential but Tekahn does look promising.
It was my main game two or 3 years ago and even reached top 5 (played from launch untill the dark brotherhood). For me the game is the perfect example of wasted potential. It had so many good things going for it, a beloved franchise as foundation, great mechanics and a diverse fresh gameplay. Then they fucked up so hard by turning the game to a smorcfest by making the prophecy a win more instead of a coming back mechanic (the best prophecy cards were proactive instead of reactive).
Moreover the game was plauged by a ridiiculous amount of bugs and not only in the game itself. In the months i played the game i could not use real money in their shop to support it. i send many tickets to the technical support and their invaluable input was always...to reinstall the game.... not shit, i have done that my self already like 5 times...And it was not only my case, there were countless posts in their forums with the same issue. And no, untill i deleted the game, the problem persisted.
I gave the game a second chance when the tri colours were introduced, i saw the same smorcfested meta and the same bugs after fucking years from release... so i deleted the game after two days and i am not reinstalling it ever again as long as magic exists.
Anyway to be fair, all the above might have been fixed now, but for me, it is too late.
When opening packs I always spin it in circle once before dropping it in the middle (excluding the expansion release pack opening, there's just too many for that).
Inflicting lethal with the most "unusual" way possible (randomly created "unplayable" minion, 0-Attack minion buffed, pass turn to trigger Rag/Geddon/similar for lethal).
This is not as set in stone as others: only closing Hearthstone after a won match (this has infuriated me sometimes, how can you lose that many games in a row...)
HSReplay doesn't have as comprehensive Wild stats as they have with Standard, so I can't give you one single archetype. From the Mage decks available there I managed to find only one pure/traditional Quest Mage, and it would seem that Hunters in general are its worst enemy. Based on that I'd say Mech Hunter might do well.
I don't TRY for it, but I have a particular liking of getting exact lethal. I won't delay the game to make it happen, but it 'feels' better when I do it.
We really hadn't mechs since GvG, so it's ok to have a peak right now.
I'm really hoping/rooting for a Naga expansion - maybe we get something in that direction because there is the Nazjatar patch in WoW.
I am not that opposed to mechs, i just think, not every class should (be able to) utilize every tribe.
I don't see how they could have avoided it with Mechs and Boomsday, considering how central they were to the expansion. I think they did a fine job pushing mechs more heavily in certain classes compared to others like druid or shaman, where they'd feel out of place. I don't mind Mulchmuncher beign a druid mech because IMO it makes sense thematically within the setting of the expansion.
I suppose mechs in hunter are a bit odd, but what else were they going to do with the class? Push mechanical traps as the class identity?
I thought of playing the game at one point and watched a few gamethroughs of it, but got turned down when I noticed that the community isn't that active in the recent years and the recent reviews on steam doesn't help. If It was a game with more-active players and a better future I might have actually given it a try.
This is my experience with the game, nobody is talking about it. Steam is a harsh world, so maybe it was a mistake for them to offer it on there. I'm also relieved to learn that I'm not imagining things. The web search results I get are always old when I'm looking for something a little beyond the basics for advice or strategy. There is a website devoted to deck building where people share their decks, but it's like a recipe book of deck lists without much in terms of how to use the decks.

Rakano aggro is still an effective budget deck ... as you get higher in the ladder ranks, you'd need a fair number of rares, but you can do it without legendaries. Token decks aren't a huge thing these days, but Grenadin drone still sees play in some decks.
Ahhhh. Ok then. So what sets would I need to buy into to catch up a little? And what sets do I need to avoid?
But the most important campaign, IMO, is called "Into Shadow." This gives you several of the most powerful legendary units currently in the game: Vara, Vengeance Seeker; Azindel, Revealed; and Telut, Queen's Hand. All three of these legendaries are major inclusions in a variety of different decks.
After Into Shadow, probably "Homecoming" is the next most important campaign, followed by "Dead Reckoning."
The campaigns each cost 25k gold, or 1k gems (currency). I stress again: Campaigns are the most important things to get for building a base from which to construct good decks. Quite a few cards from several different campaigns are critical pieces of most highly-competitive decks.
I don't really recommend buying specific card packs - you mostly just want to craft anything that you are trying to get (with such a huge card pool, and needing 4 copies of cards for decks, you rarely get close to your deck needs by opening packs). But you do get 100 shiftstone (dust) automatically with each pack, so that helps a little bit toward crafting. As is often the case with card games, the most recent set is probably the best place to start; otherwise maybe the original expac (The Empty Throne) probably is good as well. Many cards from that original set are still used, especially certain legendaries.
Lastly, here's a quick list I threw together (mostly borrowed from another list that was posted on the site, but its a VERY standard list for Rakano Aggro; doesn't really belong to anyone). I added "sideboard" rares that can be used to upgrade the budget list. https://eternalwarcry.com/decks/d/NYuJCK2lNo8/a-budget-rakano-aggro

It is one of the most generous games in existence, I'm amazed people aren't talking about it, especially with Moons of Elsewyr coming in only 8 days.
There's also a promotion happening right now where you earn 15 packs just for playing Elsewyr on Elder Scrolls Online.

How are EMP Ops working for you? I want to run them in most of my decks, but that statline is so dreadful

Eternal CCG
If you buy anything, you would buy campaigns (adventures) which give guaranteed cards, some of which are insanely powerful. The first campaign can be gotten with a free code still, I think: https://steamcommunity.com/linkfilter/?url=https://na.alienwarearena.com/ucf/show/1924629/boards/contest-and-giveaways-global/Giveaway/eternal-card-game-jekks-bounty-dlc-key-giveaway
