Greetings there! I'm here to present you my version of how I would change Mage's Core Sets. I'm jumping the bandwagon a bit with the changes after seeing some other people trying their reworks and generally accepting classes may need some updates.
After a long time, I've put crossfire onto Mage. While it's very hard to actually do them, please don't think I'm going to make changes for literally every class, altough if I get bored, I might do in near future. Also chose Mage this time, because while their core sets are cohesive and fulfill the fantasy, over time, some of the cards have become either problematic or obsolete. I'm also adding some new class identity to the class - mainly Dragons and RNG.

Explanations
Shooting Star - a bit more consistent to have in the arsenal over Arcane Explosion. Frost Nova - changed to reduce the survivability for Mage, but the new one has more payoff for the commitment of freezing your opponent's board in form of card draw. Kabal Lackey - added as part of my revisory to my Core Set, where I increase the Classic Set to 16 cards and add necessary changes. Lackey replaced Kirin Tor Mage, because while that card was better for agressive Secret decks and provided a safer discount for them, agression isn't something this class has, so it made more sense to add a slightly weaker unit that can allow for more interesting Secret play. Also, he helps Aegwynn becoming better. Sorcerer's Apprentice - the highlight of the changes. Replacing it with an entirely new card would still cause too much problems for Wild, so I instead opted to change her into a 1-drop to relive the days of Tempo Mage again and keep it in check. She has created some of the most uninteractive stuff over the years, and while she can still reduce the cost of spells, it's no longer applied on all spells after the first one. Snap Freeze - it's a better card than Shatter, and that card was a close candidate to be included in the Core Sets. It's for you, Ben Brode. And for some Freeze synergy users. Scorching Wave - added as part of my revisory to my Core Set, where I increase the Classic Set to 16 cards and add necessary changes. A new control tool. It does some nice damage to a minion, but the real value is in the upgraded damage on your Hero Power. With future expansions, this card can give those Hero Power-related cards some more oomph. Arcane Breath - added as part of my revisory to my Core Set, where I increase the Classic Set to 16 cards and add necessary changes. This addition further strengthens future Dragon-based Mage decks. Mana Bind -another hightlight of this set. Counterspell has been toxic throughout it's existence, creting so many unfun moments. This one will serve similar purpose without pointing a middle finger. Frosty Fausting - a nice stalling tool for any deck that aims to draw a lot of cards. Gadgetzan Auctioneer just got a cold friend to be supported alongside. Note that it won't Freeze enemies that are already frozen. Apexis Smuggler - a better Secret synergy card, giving you a lot of card generation. Magna Aegwynn - the pinnacle of card generation. You can reuse a lot of your spells, and with some cost reduction, you can get even more. Also has fun synergy with Snap Freeze.

Some cards that were considered, but didn't make the cut
Ice Block - don't worry, I wanted to add it changed to add a burst heal instead of giving you Immune. But even that had some problems itself, so I did not lean towards rereturning a hall of fame'd card. Starscryer - a decent addition, but tutoring is dangerous to have in an evergreen set. Volcanic Potion - good AoE, but it did not fit thematically. Violet Spellwing - was meant to be the 1-drop for Tempo Mage, but it wasn't particularly interesting, and having an evergreen Deathrattle for mage can be misleading. Rhonin - same reason. Wee Spellstopper - probably a bit too toxic to be evegreen, even though Robes of Protection power crept her out of oblivion. Pyromaniac - not a bad card to be evergreen, but I lacked room for this. Hero Power cards were going to be in the set, but I had no idea how to fit them in. Daring Fire-Eater - this one was close to make the cut, but obviously I tried to keep [Hearthstone Card (Sorcerer Apprentice) Not Found] to save both modes and not only Standard. I've tried a lot of different versions, some that are more midranged with Dragon synergies, some that are more aggressive with lots of 1-drops, but I keep finding that they just don't cut it. They're not fast enough to be consistent against control decks, and the other classes that support aggro and tempo decks are often better at it, so if you don't have a 1-drop into Power Word: Feast as your opening play, you're often dead in the water. Relying on getting at least one cheap buff in your opening hand has been a struggle.

Often enough they can simply stall until turn 7-8 thanks to multiple removal spells, and the small costed units that are also very beneficial towards their core strategy completion and it heals them.
Then turn 8-9 sometimes as early as turn 7 as in this instance your either dead or have to trade in most of your board towards overstatted minions which means your most likely gonna lose next turn.
And if that doesn't occur your deck being obliterated before you have even reached turn 10 also does the trick.
Only way my decks really are able to beat em is if i either play hyper aggro and kill em before Nautilus comes down or they are extremely unlucky and neither draw Maokai and Nautilus.
Otherwise all my other slower decks are basically insta-lose.

First of all, this is not a salt thread about aggro decks. I know everybody enjoys different types of decks and I am not the one to judge. However, I do not enjoy aggro decks. I don't want games to end on turn 5, I don't want my highest cost card to be a 4 mana card. I want to play expensive cards, I want to control the board, I want to assemble my win condition and I want big swing turns. I am a control/combo player, that is what I enjoy about hearthstone.
Last expansion was the first time I generally experienced fatigue and stopped playing for a couple of weeks. The introduction of demon hunter and how blatantly overpowerd basically all of their cards were and how it was a stupid strong deck even after 10+ cards got nerfed just tilted me so much that I could not enjoy the game anymore.
Then the new expansion came and I got excited again, so many cool new legendaries with unique effects, but also a lot of veeeeryyy strong tools for aggro(a better jeeves, really?). I jumped into the first day, opened my packs, crafted some exciting cards and went right in and it was so fun. I played highlander warrior and priest, ripper warrior, control-soulshard-warlock, paladin paladin and more. Druid seems stupid again with all the ramp but that is nothing new. Besides that I had a lot of fun the first couple of days. Paladin paladin also seems very strong but not op and I saw loads of different decks and archetypes. But after a couple of days, the thing that always happens happened. Aggro came through. Suddenly a majority of players started playing aggro rogue, hunter or druid, all petty much the same lists and they are very strong. The reload they gave rogue is insane(1 mana draw 5 seems like a good idea, right?) , token druids win condition has been savage roar for years and I am sick of it and even hunter has so much card draw and value generation, that it seems impossible to outvalue/outlive them with any type of control deck.
It just seems there is no place for control decks any more, and if you want to play a combo deck you better combo your opponent to death before turn 7 or you are just dead. Which means you gotta play druid and that just feels like tossing a coin to me.
I want to know how you feel, has anyone made similar experiences? What do you do to still enjoy the game? Or is hearthstone just not the right game for me anymore?

2. Running into a lot of made hand scenarios for every single deck - aka opponent card draw simulator
3. Less people willing to run synergistic low tier and exciting lists
4. Having all the cards
5. A distinct impression that others aren't enjoying the game anymore - aka speed chess
6. Slow roll or value plays being generally phased out for pure tempo
So if you guys have any ideas on how to keep things fresh until the expansion I'd love to hear it
