What is Daybreak in Legends of Runeterra?

Legends of Runeterra has many card effects that are common enough that they get their own keyword - a word or two that immediately tells you how the card works. Let's take a look at the Daybreak keyword.

Bonus if this is the first card you play in a round.

Daybreak is a keyword introduced in Call of the Mountain. Daybreak is an ability that triggers if you played a Daybreak card as the first card you played that turn. It is the opposite counterpart, mechanically and flavorfully, to Nightfall, also introduced in Call of the Mountain. Both keywords are found in Targon, with Nightfall also appearing in Shadow Isles.

Daybreak is mostly easy to use, as all you have to do is just play that card first on your turn. It will allow you to play on curve stronger than before. Perhaps if you planned on only playing one card on your turn anyway, activating Daybreak will not prove to be any more difficult.

Keywords that Work Great with Daybreak

Ironically, Daybreak has good synergy with Nightfall as they have opposite activation conditions. You can play a Daybreak card first, and then a Nightfall card and get the bonus of both effect. Neither effort is "wasted" in the process.

Playing Against Daybreak in Legends of Runeterra

Unfortunately there is no direct way to play against Daybreak as it's influenced entirely by an opponent's action.

Solari Soldier is a 1 mana 2|2 that becomes a 3|3 if you activate Daybreak. This will allow you to play a 3|3 to deal 3 damage on turn 1, and it will be able to survive almost anything thrown at you that turn. Because of its cheap cost, it's very easy to activate Daybreak and keep playing other cards.

Solari Shieldbearer and Sun Guardian are other cards that gain stats if played with Daybreak. The former gains stats defensively and can be used as a quick effective "wall", and the latter has a lower stat:cost ratio, but gains a lot more stats and uses Overwhelm.

Rahvun, Daylight's Spear will add another Daybreak card to your if played it in Daybreak. While it's on the board, your Daybreak cards will always stay active.
