The Arena Open Returns on August 1! The Arena Open brings cash prizes to MTG Arena for competing in an open tournament, this time, using the Historic format.
- You can win up to $2000.
- Takes place August 1 & 2.
- Will use the Historic game format.
- All JumpStart cards will be available to play with.
- The structure is the exact same as the first.
More details will be provided next week during the State of the Game article that comes out.
How the Arena Open Works
For day 1, you'll be eliminated as soon as you lose 3 games, gem prizing starts at 3 wins, and as mentioned before you can enter as many times as you want. If you want to get to day 2 though, you're going to need to hit 7 wins during the first day to unlock the day 2 ticket. The competition will be quite a bit more fierce on day 2 as the format switches over to best-of-three with sideboard, and you'll need to make it all the way up to at least 6 wins to earn any cash. You'll also need to make it to day 2 and get a single win if you want to break even on your investment.
- Day 1 Entry fee is 20000 Gold or 4000 Gems, multiple entries allowed within the time frame.
- Day 2 Entry fee is a Qualification Token, at most 1 entry/player.

I don't know. This certainly is a great event for some players but I feel this only serves a really narrow part of the player base. Entry fee is quite high and as a casual or medium-skilled player without a pretty good collection you probably get eliminated right away. I would love to see an event that caters to a broad playerbase and also includes casual players. Something like Felfire Festival in Hearthstone. MTGA is lacking this in my opinion, but maybe it's just me :)
I would love to see more 'holidays' but this is more like the paid in brawls from HS than the fire festival. They have a pretty good amount of events going on at any time in MtG that are either free or a gold entry (not hard to save up for if you are doing dailies). I do wish they would release info about how many winners they get, I'm interested in that data. They probably won't because if it's only a few dozen at most in the top 2, you'll have less people willing to hork over a huge entrance fee.
