Zendikar Rising previews are starting today! Everything kicks off on Twitch.tv/Magic so tune in below and follow the card spoilers right here on Out of Cards.
This post will be updated as new cards are spoiled on stream. We'll also recap any information so you don't have to watch. If you're looking to pre-order physical copies of Zendikar Rising cards, you can find the new products over on Amazon (affiliate link).
Zendikar Rising Mechanics
- Kicker - An optional additional cost that appears on all kinds of cards. Simply put, you pay more, you get more.
- Landfall - If a land enters the battlefield under your control, all your landfall abilities will trigger. If more than one landfall ability triggers at the same time, you can put those abilities on the stack in any order.
- Party - Highlights four specific creature types: Cleric, Rogue, Warrior, and Wizard. These form a party and change how cards work based on how large your party is.

Modal Double-Faced Cards
We're getting a set of double-faced cards! Wizards showcased one card that is a land on one side and a spell on the other. Other versions of these cards are dual lands!
Quote From Wizards Like previous double-faced cards, modal double-faced cards have two card faces, one on each side of the card. But these cards don't transform. When you play a modal double-faced card, you choose which face you're playing. Short on mana? Play Valakut Stoneforge. Good on mana but need more action? Cast Valakut Awakening. It's up to you.
Most of the rules that govern how transforming double-faced cards apply to the new modal variety. While a modal double-faced card is in your hand, your graveyard, or exile, it has the characteristics of its front face only. So, if you're searching your library for a land card, you can't find a modal double-faced card whose front face isn't a land card. If an effect allows you to cast instant spells from your graveyard, you could cast Valakut Awakening, but you couldn't play Valakut Stoneforge.

Mythic lands... yay
Bloodchief's Thirst is sexy, sexy targeted removal. I can see it being a 4-of for many decks, mono-black and multi colored. Aquisition's expert is also sexy disruption, better in every way than Burglar Rat except for the fact that it's not a rat. I like rats...
The 'Full Party' mechanic seems like it's got that sweet, tasty flavor. We'll see how it functions in terms of power.
*Tajuru Paragon just premiered. Now it seems super cheap to pull off as long as you run green. Turn 2 or 3 allows for a paragon drop followed by a one mana 'party spell' like Coveted Prize.... Am I misunderstanding this card? Can one card be your full party or does the Tajuru just fill in gaps?*
I'm really by this news, especially the Zendikar Party mechanic, and the Forgotten Realms set. I believe that because we're getting "D&D parties" as a mechanic in the set, D&D is getting a Zendikar book soon, just like it did Theros and Ravnica.
