We've got a huge update today from Riot on the way that Legends of Runeterra releases content moving forward. As a part of the Season 2021 Opening Day festivities, a new roadmap has been released.
Previously, we were expecting a set launch in February, followed up by expansions of that core set in both April and June. Riot has decided that we'll instead see the new set arrive in March and its two expansions for that set are set to arrive together in May and June of this year.
- New Set: Empires of the Ascended
- New Expansion: Guardians of the Ancient
- New Expansion: Rise of the Underworlds
These three sets all fit into the overall Empires of the Ascended expansion. That isn't it though because Riot also wants to make sure we're getting more champions faster so they have created a new concept called "Champion Expansions".
A Champion Expansion is where Riot releases a new Champion outside of their normal card release schedule. The first Champion who is going to get their own set is Aphelios, who is due to launch in February alongside a special deck bundle that will contain him, though he remains craftable, which makes him easy to get. So far, we know of one more Champion Expansion this year and that will be arriving in July.

I'm sure they also have some secret content to be added (like they often do).
What's Social Lab again? Is it another type of co-op?
I treat LoR more as a story book rather than a game, so every things seems good. Can't wait.
I think we need a new approach to ranked seasons. Recently, they have been 2 months long and required you to grind out a decent number of games in order to advance. But with the changed schedule, our current season suddenly increased to 3 months. That will be followed by a 2-month season, and then a 1 month season!
I look forward to reaching a new high before March, and I hope that they streamline the 1-month season when it arrives.
UPDATE: I saw some calculations on Reddit which predicted that the expansions would hit on March 10th, May 5th, and June 30th. If so, we’ll have even 8-week seasons like normal. Our current one will still be a month longer, though.
