Riot has updated their in-client event calendar to show events for March, April, and May. These include the exact date for the next expansion, a change to the PvE Lab of Legends, and the exact date for the next themed event.
March
- Wednesday March 3rd: Empires of the Ascended set release & season start, Shurima, and Expansion Event (in progress)
- Wednesday March 31st: "Upgrade!!!" to the popular Lab of Legends PvE mode
April
- Wednesday, April 14th: Legends of Runeterra 1-Year Anniversary with celebratory cosmetic items
- Saturday, April 17th: Last Chance Gauntlet
- Saturday, April 24th - Saturday, May 1st: EotA Season Tournament
May
- Wednesday, May 5th: Guardians of the Ancient Expansion release & season start
- Wednesday, May 19th: New Themed Event
- Although it isn't listed here, Riot also had "Champion Skins" listed under May in their 2021 Season Roadmap
The Season 2021 Roadmap also specified 2 upcoming Themed Events, one in May and one in July. It remains to be seen which will be the highly anticipated Ruination-themed event -- however July is also the date for Champion Expansion, and introducing Viego alongside the event would be a thrilling combination.
Here's the full calendar.

Wait, if champion skins is a cosmetic.. what will they do once they run out of actual champions? there are currently 154 in league and (I guess around 50 in LoR atm)
There are at least a few years to catch up with LOL in terms of champions but I thought the solution was to use skins as continuation, we will see in 3 years or so probably so far been enjoying the reimagining of champions as cards with more lore around them and showing them in other light than their league counterpart
They will have their own champions once they run out of LoL's.
They have answered this in an interview. (rlor 2020 wrapped stream)
My body is ready!
The thing I’ll enjoy most is the new expansion, but since we’re a week into the current one, I’m not exactly looking forward to another yet.
The Lab of Legends update will be exciting. Its the first solo CCG experience I’ve enjoyed in a couple years, but the same 9 enemies are getting old. I’m looking forward to seeing what they can add.
Cool, I have my own 25th anniversary in april, so I will probably buy some cosmetics for myself ;p
This one has me excited the most. I loved labs of legends.
I think I remember an earlier roadmap saying that the lab would become PvP, so that’s probably what it is. Hopefully, they also update some of the champion selections and passives.
You're probably remembering this roadmap from January, where they wrote "Social Lab / Legends Lab" under April, May, and June. Our guess is that the slash is intended to designate two separate labs, the 1st involves cooperating with another player circa the 2vAI and 2v2 labs that we've had in recent weeks and the 2nd being a card/power/opponent changes to the existing Lab of Legends format, but you could be right in thinking that this instead means that the Lab of Legends format changes to incorporate another player.
Either way, it is worth noting that that road map only called out Legends Lab for February, April, May, & June while this new calendar has only 1 lab designation, the aforementioned "Upgrade!!!" which occurs March 31st -- practically the only month not listed in the original roadmap. To be determined if this means they've tweaked their plans or if they just consider the 31st to be effectively April.
Okay, I finally found the quote, it was actually in the article about the roadmap that they posted on their website. It reads:
"Legends Labs can be either single-player (think Journey to the Peak from Patch 1.11) or multiplayer"
After looking back at the evidence, I think it's much more open to interpretation than I initially remembered. This basically just confirms that they'll eventually add a multiplayer (possibly even 2v2?) Lab of Legends, but that could be in this next update or sometime far in the future. My interpretation is that the solo-player variant released first so that they could smooth out the systems and fix the balance before the multiplayer version (like how the 2vAI United Front came before the 2v2 version). I think that they'll likely rebalance the items, passives, and card offerings because some things work versus AI but are toxic against players (Like Katarina).
