Jax Is Joining the Legends of Runeterra Champion Roster in the Upcoming "Awakening" Expansion

Riot has revealed Jax, the fifth Runeterran Champion! His deckbuilding condition is very similar to Kayn, except with Weaponmasters instead of Cultists. You can see him, the reveal video, and two more new collectible cards that were revealed today down below.

New Vocab - Improvise

In case you've missed the description of the new mechanic (or Vocab as Riot calls it), here it is one more time:

  • Choose one from two random options from a depleting pool of Equipment and equip it to this ally. If the ally wasn't played from hand, it equips a random Equipment instead.

Jax Champion Reveal

Jax's Champion spell also includes a new mechanic, Forge, which was explained on Twitter. It came with an ominous additional description "The fire burns as hot as the demigod who commands it."

  • Forge: Grant an ally +1/+1. If the ally is equipped, grant it to their item instead.

  • Jax looks weak and uninspired

  • "Imagine if I had a real weapon..." For being a supposed badass of combat, so good that he bonks people with a lamppost to make things more fair for the opponent, I figured that he would be higher-statted than a mere 2/3/2 *shrugs* Edit: Maybe he has those stats because of the lamp heh.

    Never imagined him as much of a team-player, either, that he gains +1/+1 based on allies. Maybe that's because Jax players were selfish assholes when I was playing lol.

    • That lore is outdated in his new one the lampost is actually a Icathian weapon and Jax is traveling around the world to gather  warriors strong enough to help him defeat the void.

      • Really? That's unfortunate; I thought that attitude made him more unique.

        • They kept his cocky attitude but they did retcon his entire back story.

  • Jax is kinda cool and all but neighter his origin nor the champion look particular good.

    I wouldn't play my equipment deck with jax in it but maybe i am just too picky an he is very good for a 2 drop

  • I feel like we're missing one card. The Demacia/Freljord chef follower.

  • A new keyword called forge well I guess that just confirm that Ornn will be the next champion
