At last year's Game Awards, SEGA announced it would be bringing back five beloved franchises with new games and remakes. We've got an update on the status of these games from a reliable insider, Midori, via a series of tweets.

In the thread, Midori has stated that the aforementioned Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio reboot titles have been delayed. SEGA is currently working on on their "Super Game" project, which is comprised of several titles, all of which have been in development since 2021, and it appears that they need more time to get everything together. Both series are also planned to have remakes of the original games, which may also be delayed but it is currently unknown; The original plan was to have remakes arrive "shortly" before the reboots.

With the delays expected to be until after March 31, 2028, that puts us a little under 4 years away from the earliest they could possibly release. That's quite a while!

We're a bit disappointed to hear about the delays, but we're certainly still excited for some SEGA classics getting some love! Read on for more details straight from the rumor mill.

Quote From Midori

A few of the Super Game titles have been delayed at Sega to after FY2028. FY2028 begins on April 1, 2027 and ends on March 31, 2028. These titles include the Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi GaaS reboot titles. But I do not have exact release windows at the present time.

Last year, research was done on competitor free-to-play shooters for Jet Set Radio. And this included research on weapons such as guns that would be obtainable in-game and server implementation. I am currently unsure if the Remake title schedule has been affected.

Internally, both the Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi plans had already been previously delayed two different times, including the original reveal dates for the projects.

The previous plan before this month was to release Jet Set Radio remake and reboot in 2026 and Crazy Taxi in 2027. Golden Axe was supposed to release individually in 2023 and marketing plans were created. But this plan was then changed.

The Remake titles were supposed to release a short while before the reboots for fans of the original titles who did not want to play the GaaS reboots that are currently in development. These titles might be delayed due to current change in plans and marketing.

Super Game is any large-scale title such as PSO2:NGS. Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi are also part of Super Game and are the main Super Game titles. Virtua Fighter also contains Super Game elements but it still is planned to have traditional fighting game features.

The current Super Game project started development in summer of 2021. It was at this time that the future of Sonic series was being developed with Sonic Origins, Sonic Frontiers and Sonic Superstars which all were in development at the same time.

There is a new PSO series spin-off in development that is supposed to release in current fiscal year. This title is sometimes referred to as Oxyhudson or Orbit at Sega. PSO2:NGS is Oxymantis.

I want to make sure there is no confusion with what I am saying before. It is correct information that Sega is developing full remakes of Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio in Unreal Engine 5 with most of the original staff. These titles would release before the GaaS reboots.

These remakes are very similar to the original games but with some new features including multiplayer for Crazy Taxi. And day one cosmetic DLC is currently planned for the remakes. But there are currently not expansion passes planned. These are not the GaaS Reboot titles.

And now SOA is more involved in development and marketing of Sega titles than before. And communication has become more consistent between SOA and SOJ for these titles as part of global initiative. It is not just for Sonic titles.
