Lollipop Chainsaw, the action game from 2012, is being remastered: dubbed "Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP", it will feature a stylish new RePOP Mode, additional costumes and chainsaws to acquire, and a rebalance of the game, among other things. RePOP will release on September 25th for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam.

Lollipop Chainsaw has had a tumultuous path back to relevance lately. First it was getting a remake, then that shifted (arguably downgraded) to a remaster, then it was delayed to "Summer 2024". There were also questions regarding the possibility of censorship to the material, such as changes to dialogue or Juliet's clothing, which concerned fans of the original.

Either-way, we now know the extent of the changes coming to Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, courtesy of their new website. You can see the full list below:

Changes From Original Release

  • RePOP Mode, which adds a colorful pop-art effect for damage, reducing the overall level of violence/gore. This is completely optional: you can still select Original Mode and receive the other benefits of the remaster.
  • Resolutions and Framerate have both been improved.
  • Shorter load times across the board.
  • Improvements to the chainsaw action, including:
    • Camera response, namely using the R-stick to rotate the camera faster
    • Keystroke response, improving the timing of combo inputs
    • Your attack speed now increases based on your chained hits
    • Juliet's movement speed is higher
  • The Chainsaw Blaster has "Auto Rock On" (lock on, we assume), a new auto-fire mode, and increased ammo
  • Combo actions can be used from the beginning of the game
  • Nick Roulette was updated to improve usability for some moves
  • Zombie Baseball was rebalanced to make it less difficult
  • Auto QTEs, which automatically fulfills QTE requirements. This is actually set as the new default, meaning you must change it back to the original if you want to do the QTEs yourself
  • Some of the soundtrack was updated to original music, providing a Streamer Mode

New Additions

  • Four additional chainsaws have been added to the in-game shop, each of which have a different appearance and a passive effect attached.
  • Your chain level rises higher and higher based on consecutive hits against enemies, thereby increasing your chainsaw attack-speed and the number of bonus Medals you receive.
  • Real Time Attack mode, challenging you to speed through the game and register your clear-time on a ranking board.

Collectibles

  • Juliet's Room has been reorganized for easier viewing of your collection
  • New costumes have been included, raising the total count to 30 (licensed costumes have been removed, though)
  • Four new hair colors have been added
  • A Shop has been introduced, allowing you to buy the new customization content with Medals obtained in-game.
