Best Ways to Make Gold in The War Within

Herbalism & Mining

From one expansion to the next, gathering professions continue to be a goldmine for players, and The War Within is no exception. The double gathering combo of Mining and Herbalism can earn you a hefty sum at the Auction House by collecting and selling herbs and ore. Plus, besides the gold gains, you can level up along the way since each gathered reagent gives you around 1,000 XP.

For this method to work more efficiently, we recommend picking up the Druid class as they're very mobile and allow you to gather herbs without dismounting. You can also unlock the ability to gather while mounted by speccing into a specific talent in both Herbalism and Mining, but this requires leveling up the professions. At the start of the expansion, herbs and ore markets will get quite competitive, so don't forget to check prices before posting to maximize your profits!

Selling Green BoE Items

As you level up through the new zones, you'll come across a bunch of BoE green items ranging from ilvl 408 to 564, depending on your level. While not all of these items will suit your character in terms of level or type, they can still bring in some decent gold at the Auction House. Greens tend to sell well because players will be looking for ways to gear up, especially since not everyone will enter the expansion decked out in top-tier pieces. So, instead of vendoring those unwanted greens, throw them up at the Auction House and watch the gold roll in.

Crafting

If done right, crafting has the potential to earn you millions of gold, especially in the early stages of the expansion. The key here is to craft gear and items that are in demand and sell them at the Auction. To get started, you'll need a crafting profession and a basic understanding of what items sell well and why. Naturally, the more advanced your profession, the more profit you can rake in, so investing some time and effort into maxing it out is essential.

For example, as a tailor, you'll have access to a bunch of recipes even at the lower levels, allowing you to make a nice profit early on. By level 30, you'll be able to craft blue BoEs, which will sell faster and for much higher prices. Tailoring also lets you gather cloth to sell for extra income.

While all crafting professions have gold-making potential, we especially recommend Alchemy, Tailoring, Leatherworking, and Blacksmithing. Don't forget that professions now have talent trees, so you can spec into different talents to gain bonuses that further boost your gold gains. Also, pay special attention to Crafting Orders — a new system that lets you fulfill custom gear requests for rewards, including gold. The more recipes you know and the higher quality items you can craft, the more you'll be able to earn.

Flipping Items at the Auction House

In the first few weeks of the expansion, Auction House prices will be fluctuating a lot as the in-game economy is still finding its footing. This chaotic period presents a great opportunity for you to make some quick gold. You can easily profit by buying cheap reagents and selling them at a higher price. If you're up for it, diving deeper into specific markets to understand pricing trends can be very rewarding, but for quick cash, you can just start by focusing on items priced under 300 gold. While more expensive reagents can offer bigger profits, they also come with a higher risk of loss, so keep that in mind as you navigate the market. We also recommend targeting reagents with a higher sell rate, as they're more likely to be purchased quickly. This strategy does require some initial capital, but you don't need to invest a fortune. Start small with your purchases and resales, and as you get a feel for the market, you can move on to bigger flips. Just remember to keep an eye on prices and play it smart!
