Over the course of the 2010s, Sega released a bunch of collections for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, which as you would expect, gives you one central location to play all of those games. On April 26, 2016, Sega released all of the collections into one hub as "Sega Mega Drive & Genesis Classics" on Steam which contains over 50 games for Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, which can be bought as a bundle or individually, and can all be played from one program. In July of that same year, they also released a Dreamcast collection,

Sadly, all of the games and the hub for both services will no longer be purchasable starting on December 6th. As far as I can tell, no official reason has been given, but I can only assume this is because of a larger collection for these games that might come later. We do know that some of these games are planned to have official remakes or new releases.

Still, that might not happen for a while, so you only have a small window of time left to purchase these games. The prices vary depending on your store of choice. You can buy the bundle for $33 on Steam, $30 on the PlayStation store, $30 on the Xbox store, or weirdly for only $9 on Nintendo store. Weirdly, the Steam and Nintendo store versions are discounted, whereas the PlayStation and Xbox versions are not. Some versions of the compilation may not contain all of the games, so it may be wise to do some research first! The Steam option is the most expensive, but also has the added flexibility of buying the games individually if you don't want to buy all of them.

The good news is that once you have those games purchased, you will still be able to play them even after the games and the hub are delisted.

Absolutely! All SEGA Classics games and bundles you own will remain in your library, ready to be downloaded and played at any time.

Yes, select individual classic titles will still be playable for those who have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

Their FAQ also contains a list of games delisted from all of the platforms, but putting all of those lists would make this article way too long. To save you some time, both bundles in their entirety will be delisted on Steam, Xbox will delist the Genesis bundle and most Dreamcast games, whereas the PlayStation and Switch stores will only delist the Genesis bundles and the Dreamcast games and collection will remain entirely untouched.

No Sonic?

You may notice that the mainline Sonic games are not included in the Genesis bundle, and you can only buy the spinoff games. What happened to Sonic 1, 2, and 3&K? On June 23, 2022, Sega released Sonic Origins, which meant removing the Sonic games from the Genesis bundle as a means of promoting the new Sonic collection. This means you will need to buy those games separately, but the good news is that they won't become delisted with the rest of the Genesis classics. Despite its mixed reception on launch, it has gotten dramatically better over time and now has a "Mostly Positive" rating score on Steam and a rating of over 4 stars for PlayStation and Xbox. You can buy Sonic Origins Plus for $16 on Steam, $16 on the PlayStation store, $20 on the Nintendo store, and... $40 on the Xbox store and not discounted? That's unfortune. These deals will all last a variable amount of time, so you better act as quickly as you can if you want them.
