Welcome to the final article in the Legends of Runeterra Concept Art Spotlight series. Last week, we looked at Noxus. Today, we're looking at the last region we haven't looked at yet. That would be the cold and brutal region of Freljord. As always, all of this artwork is available to view on Riot's partner site, Six More Vodka. Links to all of the artist's Artstation or Deviantart profiles will also be provided.
Kindly Tavernkeeper by Claudiu-Antoniu Magherusan
Our first piece of artwork is Kindly Tavernkeeper from Claudiu-Antoniu Magherusan, which uses the internal name, "Kindly Innkeeper".
Anivia by Michal Ivan
Michal Ivan created the artwork for everyone's favorite crystallized ice bird, as well as the killer of Expeditions. It's Anivia!
Lonely Poro by Alessandro Poli
Alessandro Poli here provided the art for Lonely Poro, one of the many Poro cards in the game. Also the saddest. Seriously, someone needs to go over there and give it a hug.
Yeti Yearling by Alessandro Poli & Gerald Parel
The all-star team of Alessandro and Gerald provided the whom wins the "super cute" award along with all of the Poro cards. It uses the name "Young Yeti" internally.
Jubilant Poro by Alessandro Poli
Alessandro also created the artwork for Jubilant Poro, as he did for its "base form" card.
Wyrding Stones by Monika Palosz
Monika Palosz provided the artwork for Wyrding Stones, the card which immediately proved that ramp is dangerous and was nerfed after the game's first beta release.
Icevale Archer by Monika Palosz
Monika also provided the artwork for Icevale Archer (or "Veteran Archer" internally). No one else. Just Monika. Nobody else is here. Just Monika.
Avarosan Hearthguard by Claudiu-Antoniu Magherusan
Claudiu provided the art for Avarosan Hearthguard (known as "Unified Host" internally), arguably one of most iconic non-Champion cards in the game.
Unscarred Reaver by Gerald Parel
Artwork for Unscarred Reaver by Gerald Parel. The art is called "Unblooded Reaver" internally. I'd rather be unscarred than unblooded, so I guess it's good that the name was changed.
Avarosan Outriders by Marko Djurdjevic
Marko Djurdjevic provided the group of champions riding horses and elnuks known as the Avarosan Outriders, known as "Icevale Riders" internally.
Tarkaz the Tribeless by Gerald Parel
Concept art for Tarkaz the Tribeless (labeled at "Tarkaz 02" internally), whom I feel is tribeless he doesn't have any sense of co-operation, just swinging his weapon at everyone, so no one wants to join him.
Babbling Bjerg by Gerald Parel
Gerald provided the artwork for Babbling Bjerg, the Freljord tutor for your big guys. The art has the internal name "Deranged Hermit" which would change the scope of the situation pretty dramatically. Now he's babbling so he can ask you "do you want to draw a champion? I want to draw a champion!"
She Who Wanders by Monika Palosz
If you played during the closed beta, then the chances are that you're familiar with this card. It's She Who Wanders from Monika Palosz.
Scarmaiden Reaver by Marko Djurdjevic
A preliminary design of Scarmaiden Reaver by Marko Djurdjevic, known as "Scarthane Raiders" internally.
Braum by Gerald Parel
Gerald provided the artwork for Braum in his level 1 form.
Omen Hawk by Marko Djurdjevic
Marko provided the artwork for Omen Hawk, a fairly iconic 1-drop for the game. It uses the name "Auspicious Envoy" internally.
Ancient Yeti by Michal Ivan
Preliminary design of Ancient Yeti by Michal Ivan, who is unfortunately trapped in ice. In just a few turns though, the ice will melt and you can play him for free.
Unused Art - Spells Fluft by Alessandro Poli
This piece of concept art appears to depict a Fluft of Poros (as the name would suggest), although the final artwork for the card depicts it to be in the air rather than on the ground. As such, this appears to be an early version of the artwork. The name "Spells Fluft" also implies that the card may have originally been a spell and not a unit.
