Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70 Rolls Out Tomorrow - Five New Cars, Five New Races, Pikes Peak Scapes Location

Published 4 hours ago by

Gran Turismo 7 update 1.70 rolls out tomorrow, and this one is much more racing focused than most of our more recent updates, with four of the five new cars being endurance racing prototypes and three of the five new races being specifically made for them.

This update also introduces Pikes Peak as a Scapes location, officially marking the very first time Pikes Peak has appeared in the series since Gran Turismo 2.

The version of Pikes Peak seen in Gran Turismo 2 however is only a small section of entire course, running from Cove Creek up to Devil's Playground.

Below is a map of the full course, and inside the red rectangle is a rough approximation of the section that is run in Gran Turismo 2.

This has also been somewhat of a curiosity since Polyphony Digital have held licensing rights to the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb and have been sponsoring the event since 2017, but it was never implemented into either Gran Turismo Sport or Gran Turismo 7 as a playable track. It's still not a playable track, but it seems they've finally decided to make use of the license they hold by adding it as a Scapes location.

Why they haven't added it as a racetrack? I don't know. Perhaps it's because it's difficult to emulate the effect that atmospheric pressure has on the car as it ascends higher up the mountain? Regardless, we may rejoice as it's been added back to the series in some capacity. In 2012, Pikes Peak was also repaved to run entirely on tarmac as opposed to the version in Gran Turismo 2 which is mostly dirt as was the case back when the game came out.

The update as a whole contains the following:

  • Five new cars

    • BMW M Hybrid V8 '25

    • Ferrari 499P '23

    • Peugeot 9X8 '25

    • Porsche 963 '24

    • Porsche 911 Turbo S Safety Car (992)

  • Five new races

    • European FR Challenge 550 - Eiger Nordwand Reverse

    • Pickup Truck Race - Fisherman's Ranch

    • Gr.1 Prototype Series - Watkins Glen Long Course

    • Gr.1 Prototype Series - 24 Heures du Mans Racing Circuit

    • Gr.1 Prototype Series - Sardegna - Road Track - A

  • New Scapes location - Pikes Peak
