In roleplaying games that allow you to do so, creating your character is usually an integral part of the experience. You're not just slapping a couple gameplay elements together in an aesthetically-pleasing way, but rather defining an identity that will inhabit your choices throughout the game. Baldur's Gate III is no exception, and even goes a step further: your avatar is a vehicle for your decisions *and* a reflector of the consequences to said decisions. Whether you're an Elven Wizard, Dragonborn Ranger, or a Dwarven Barbarian, the characters of the game world will take notice and may respond differently.

With so many options at your creative disposal this can all seem rather intimidating, but fear not! We're here to break it all down and help you craft the perfect murder-hobo I mean "hero of light and justice and candy and rainbows." Or at least something in-between those two extremes.

    Preface: When in Doubt, Respec!

Shortly into the game, you will meet a character who will allow you to "respec", or rebuild your character more-or-less from scratch. You are encouraged to utilize this individual in a way that Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition - the base gameplay system from which Baldur's Gate III derives from - simply cannot match. D&D has always been an "ironman mode" kind of experience where your decisions are final; most games that stem from this system follow that basic rule. Larian Studios was like "nah", and went a different direction in the name of maximizing fun and ease of access for the player. So if you're just not enjoying your class setup, or want to experience a new build without restarting the game, you have the option to reinvent yourself. Take advantage of this opportunity!
