Odd Quest Mage

Alright, now I've found a Mage deck that uses underused strategies. Open the Waygate actually lands itself in that category, because while it used to hold a grip on the Wild meta, it's now seemingly gone. The deck struggles against fast decks and doesn't have as reliable of a win condition against slower decks. But I still think there's hope in that archetype, just in a different way. If we want to get even remotely close to our win condition, we have to deal with aggro decks.

This deck has an abundace of anti-Aggro tools like Flame Ward or Firebrand, but it still has Ice Block to stop other Combo decks. With this much stuff packed to deal with Aggro, you may ask about cards that we need to complete the Quest and cards that make for a combo related to Time Warp. We luckily still have some anti-Aggro cards that progress our Quest, namely [Hearthstone Card (Violet Spellwin) Not Found] and Ray of Frost.

The combo is Educated Elekk -> Time Warp -> Simulacrum -> Ice Block. This buys you a lot of time to stall and heal through Frost Lich Jaina. It's also pretty much infinite value, letting you win Fatigue Wars.

The deck has some intricacies mostly thanks to Kabal Lackey, because with him, you can do quite a lot of stuff you otherwise wouldn't, and they can impact your gameplan. Do you instantly slam a Secret? Do you save him for turn 3 to play a Secret and use your Hero Power? Do you use his Battlecry to trigger Firebrand? Or maybe you use him in your combo chain?

A peculiar deck overall. I recommend trying it out if you miss warping time.
