Excerpt from <i>Victory for None: Serving in the Second World War</i> by Herman Davies Sure, training was tough. They kept us in out-of-the-way places and used magic to wear us down. Said it doubled the effectiveness of the training. I have my doubts. But what I really remember is the marching. We marched at least a couple hours every day. We marched until our boots wore out. We marched until our souls were worn down to the nub.
