Stardew Valley: Why Marnie Is Never at Her Shop

Updated 6 hours ago by

Marnie missing from her Stardew Valley shop? Here are her real hours, the days she's closed, where she goes, and how to shop even when she's away.

Stardew Valley: Why Marnie Is Never at Her Shop

Short answer: Marnie isn't broken. She only mans her shop counter from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and she takes Mondays and Tuesdays off plus a handful of special days each year. If you show up before 9, after 4, or on her days off, the building is open but she's not behind the counter, so you can't buy anything. That's almost always what's going on.

Marnie's Actual Shop Hours

Here's the deal in plain terms. Marnie runs her shop from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day, except Mondays and Tuesdays. The Ranch building itself stays open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM every day, even when the shop is closed, which is why you can walk in but find her gone.

So if you wandered into the Ranch at, say, 4:30 PM and the counter was empty, that's expected. Same if it was a Monday or Tuesday. The shop being "open" on the map doesn't mean Marnie is selling.

The Days She's Not There at All

Beyond the standard Monday/Tuesday closures, Marnie takes a few specific days off through the year. Plan around these:

  • Fall 18 - her birthday. She heads to Harvey's clinic for her yearly checkup, so the shop's closed.

  • Winter 18 - she takes her niece Jas to a clinic appointment, shop closed.

  • Spring 17 - only if the bus has been repaired and the Calico Desert is unlocked. She goes to the Desert Festival.

  • Green rain days in Year One - she'll typically take the day off.

On top of that, once you've unlocked the Beach Resort on Ginger Island, Marnie may randomly spend a Monday or Tuesday over there. Those were already her days off, so it doesn't cost you shop time, but it's why you might spot her on the island.

Where Marnie Goes When the Shop's Closed

If you're hunting her down for a gift or a heart event, here's where she actually is:

  • Most days: she's in her bedroom at the Ranch until 9:00 AM, then behind the counter until 4:00 PM. After closing, she heads to the Stardrop Saloon and hangs out with Mayor Lewis until 11:00 PM.

  • Mondays: she stays in her room until about 8:10 AM, then walks to Pierre's General Store to shop until noon, then goes home for the rest of the day.

  • Tuesdays: she heads to Pierre's around 10:00 AM for her weekly exercise class with Caroline, Jodi, Emily, and Robin. She's in the back area until around 6:10 PM, then home for the night. Note this only happens when it's not raining.

  • Rainy days: rain overrides her other plans, so she's more likely to stay in her room. On rainy Thursdays she usually skips the saloon.

Why You Keep Missing Her (Common Mistakes)

Almost every "Marnie is never working" complaint comes down to one of these:

  1. You arrive after 4:00 PM. This is the big one. Show up at 4:01 and she's already stepped away from the counter. Buy your animals and hay in the morning.

  2. It's a Monday or Tuesday. She's just off. The building's open, but no shopping.

  3. It's one of her special days off (Fall 18, Winter 18, or Spring 17 with the bus repaired).

  4. You're reading the map wrong. The in-game map shows the Ranch as open "most days," but that's the building, not Marnie's selling hours.

Best Days and Times to Catch Her

Aim for a weekday morning between 9:00 AM and noon on a Wednesday through Sunday. Fridays and Sundays are especially handy because the Traveling Cart sets up nearby in Cindersap Forest on those days, so you can hit both stops in one trip. Just make it the first errand of your day before you get sucked into farming or mining and lose track of the clock.

The Trick to Never Worrying About Her Hours Again

Starting in Year Two, Marnie sells a book in her shop called the Animal Catalogue. Once you buy and read it, you can purchase from her shop even when she's not behind the counter. After that, her hours basically stop mattering for buying animals and supplies. If her schedule keeps tripping you up, this is the permanent fix. Grab it as soon as it shows up.

Quick Recap

  • Shop hours: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, closed Monday and Tuesday.

  • Building open daily 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, but that's not the same as the shop.

  • Extra closures: Fall 18, Winter 18, and Spring 17 (if the bus is fixed).

  • Best bet: weekday mornings, Wednesday through Sunday.

  • Long-term fix: buy the Animal Catalogue in Year Two to shop anytime.

She's not lazy. She just keeps banker's hours. Pop by in the morning and she'll be right there waiting.
