Please move the ad
Hi,
A new ad appeared a few days ago, consisting of an autoplay video showing up at the bottom right of the screen.
The issue is that,on mobile, I have to scroll the page to see the "X", as it goes outside of the page boundaries. Also, is there any way to prevent the autoplay or to mute it by default? I'm really against these kinds of video ads that suddenly make noise.
There is also another issue on mobile, when viewing replies that contain lots of quotes. I suggest to try and remove the borders around each of the quotes and simply show a (or multiple) down-pointing arrow(s) to showcase the inner quote levels. This would prevent ending up with one letter per row after many quote levels.
Edit: why am i seeing a "COMMENT_COUNT_25_HS" near my username? :D
Also, I typed spaces between paragraphs, yet the final post shows them all as one wall of text.

On iOS, this is not the case. The ability to close the ad is there without having to scroll. What platform are you using?
Twitch for those of you who care.
Android 7.1 on this phone. It's extremely annoying to click that X since it's right at the edge(when it doesn't show outside the page boundaries), and most of the time I click on the video itself. I'd very much love to move that X to the left side
Same issue here! I also have an Android 7.1.
That's your forum title awarded based on your comment count. It's a placeholder that probably should've been replaced a long time ago with an actual title. You can change it in account management if you wish.
I'll let Flux deal with the other issues.
Which version of chrome are you using? (Or other web browser)
Could you show me a screenshot of what you're seeing?
Thanks

I'm using the Dolphin web browser (latest version) on my phone. For which of the issues do you want me to provide a screenshot?
PS: sorry I coalesced more of them into the same thread
Edit: i cannot add images to the thread since i can't scroll the popup that appears.

Okay, it looks like on the recent thread page specifically, there's an overflow with the content which is why the x can't be touched without the horizontal scroll - will make sure we get this fixed. If there are other pages you see this happening on, please do provide URLs so we can see what's going on.
To be clear, the video ad unit should never play sounds unless you specifically interact with it. Is there a specific ad you've seen that is doing it or is it something you've seen on all pages? I haven't had any auto-sound appear during testing and seeing it live, though I do know this is an issue with some other providers.
And for the images, they don't embed because that isn't a direct link to the image. Image hosts nowadays don't give you a direct link but rather a page link that has the image embedded on the page. This can't work on our image embeds because it would be embedding an entire web page as an image which isn't possible. You can typically long-press said image to retrieve the "image address" and use that to embed it here, though links are just as fine too. You're looking for an image extension (png, jpg, jpeg, gif) at the end of an image's URL to confirm that it is a direct link to the image file itself that will embed.

Regarding the video ads, they always autoplay for me. Muting one of them seems to remember this setting.
Is there any chance to move their close button on the left side, so it's not that close to the edge anymore?
The ads will auto-play but are supposed to do so muted. It's good to hear they are muted now for you. If anyone else has any issues with sound automatically playing from them, please reach out!
The right-side close button is, unfortunately, not configurable.
Thanks for the feedback!

If you can't move close button to the left, maybe you can move the video to the left?
That would be lovely if possible. Or to the top left side of the page so it doesn't overlap the other ad.
I am pretty much fine with the ad, but I would like it if it appeared less often. Getting a video ad pop up on every screen is a lot. Maybe if it was every other screen or every third screen it wouldn't be so annoying.

Hi again. Thanks for moving the ad! Unfortunately its width is still longer than the page's, on the main page, when first loading it. If, for example, i open a thread and go back, it appears correctly.
I don't know if I am missing something, but I can't figure out how to close the ad. It takes up about 40% of the screen and there isn't a little "x" anywhere. Is there something wrong with my screen? Or am I just not looking in the right spot?

Hey all,
We've been working on making the video experience better and a deployment has gone out with some tweaks. Unfortunately, there is also a misconfiguration on the provider's end that is cached so right now there is an obnoxious bar at the bottom of the screen. This is not supposed to look like this!
Thanks for the continued feedback, it is greatly appreciated and I promise you that we'll get this experience right. All the various devices and browsers make it absolutely fun to deal with.

Can't remove ad at all, in Android.
Yep, same here.
I bet it's really "fun" 😁😁
We've been in contact with our vid provider and they've adjusted the player so that it now properly has the close button. You'll notice it is now on the left side of the screen as well on mobile to the button should be touchable now.
Thanks for the continued feedback everyone!
