Your 3 wishes

Submitted 5 years, 3 months ago by

Imagine a somewhat oversized, bearded fairy appeared, hollering “Well met!” and granting you a once in a lifetime chance of 3 hearthstone related wishes. What would you wish for?

Here are mine:

1. Change the dust economy. Disenchanting a card should reward half of its cost in dust. That would lead to more possibilities for everyone, hopefully resulting in more creativity. Furthermore, people who like golden cards could now get one for every eighth card of the same rarity they dusted, which sounds fair to me.

2. Make solo content available offline. I would love to be able to play solo adventures on a train or a bus without having to rely on a working internet connection. Often enough, the latter is not a given thing. Being able to play offline might significantly increase the time (and maybe even number of) people played hearthstone.

3. Abandon “time-walls”. While it is possible to craft or obtain every card in the game if you invest heavily enough, there is no way to compensate if you missed out on an expansion release or an event offering hero skins. I understand that people paid heavily for their mega bundles and don’t want the hero skins to be given away for free to everyone, but why not add them to the shop for let’s say double the price of the usual hero skins? I would certainly be intrigued by the prospect of getting Madame Lazul for 20 €.

Since I’m not sure if my wish number 2 is technically possible (how much storage would be needed?), I’ll sneak in a joker: I want more cosmetics. Give us something to do after obtaining 500 wins. Give us entry effects, emotes, pets, diamond borders, whatever.

Now what would be your wishes? What are the top three things you’d like to change?

"Ô, great bearded fairy, I have heard your offer and these are my wishes:

    1. Grant players who win a game after a long loose streak a random golden card, to cheer them up, with an appropriate message attached to it.
    2. Make the design team print more innovative tech cards and a mechanic to counter these tech cards (good luck, fairy).
    3. Reduce the cost of cards and packs after they rotate out in wild format so more players could enjoy crafting their own crazy decks.

    My thanks, great bearded fairy.

Oh, if n°2 isn't possible, just give me infinite gold, that will do."

    1) Make Arena free - but cut the rewards in half to compensate. As someone generally f2p (sometimes pre-order expansions but that's it) I have to hoard all my gold to buy packs so I don't play Arena as I never want to risk losing gold if I have a bad run. If Arena was free I would definitely play it - probably more than the ladder - even if the rewards were scaled way back to compensate.

    2) Make a true Casual mode. It gets really tiring to take a brake from the ladder to play my meme decks in Casual to run into 80% the same decks I was just playing against. My thought has always been: T5 has the metadata, so basically take the "top" (by win rate) deck or two from each class and run a check against a deck selected in Causal. If more than 20 cards in the deck matches the "top" deck(s), then it's banned. The 20-card limit gives people room to experiment on good decks, but avoids people running cookie-cutter T1 netdecks as a way to quickly farm gold at others' expense.

    3) I agree with your dust economy wish, but think that's too extreme to ActBlizz's bottom line so would never happen. My tweak to your wish would be to keep the existing economy for STANDARD cards, but do as you said with the 50% value (maybe more?) for any WILD cards. T5 has shown they don't really give a damn about Wild anyway as I assume it's not a money-maker, so why should they care if people dust 4-year-old cards at a higher rate?

Please dear greatly bearded almighty fairy,

    my whishes are:

    1. Add a playmode for targeted matchups where both players can say what kind of matchup they are and want (aggro/control/combo-otk/mid-range etc)

    2. Find a way to make your card back more visible while playing

    3. Remove Omega Devastator or Dr. Boom from the game

    1. Remove big priest from the game.

    2. Actually work on improving the game. Add the much requested tournament mode, auto-squelch, replay system, QoL changes, etc...

    3. Make sure #1 is done.

Honestly all I ask for (albeit a lot, for Blizzard at least) are those two things.

1- Create more game modes, for example having a constructed format with rotating sets would be a fun deckbuilding challenge for a few months, just like how arena works right now.

2- More cosmetics and in-game achievements: make full art cards or different kind of foil cards, or either more hero skins obtainable by reaching let's say 5k wins with a hero, that would encourage players to keep grinding and playing the game, otherwise there is no point in playing constructed

3- Make wild more accessible by reducing the cost of crafted cards, otherwise new players will never bother spending resources on this game mode since they're starting so far behind compared to an old player with a vast collection. In this way new players will have the opportunity to try new decks and the wild game mode and veteran players will see a growth in the wild community so they might start giving a damn about their collection and unused cards

    1. Address "wincentivizing" casual mode.  You have no reason to not net-deck casual mode because of how many "win X games" quests there are.  Since this is my wish, I can be selfish.  I don't play casual to netdeck or win as fast as possible, I play it to make crazy late game combos happen. Replace the win quests with play quests.  Make these quests incentivize decks that aren't net decks.
    2. Dust discount for upgrading normal cards to golden cards. Already have a non golden Ysera?  Upgrade it to golden for 1600.
    3. Ranked reset should be opt-out.  I enjoy playing weird homebrew decks at low ranks.  I should be able to reset back to 10 or 15 or even 20 without having to wait months and months, because that one time I got to Rank 2.

I have to say that the Devs have really made a lot of progress in the last 5 months, in terms of both game quality and communication in general (they feel a lot more present than in the past, though sometimes they lack transparency). It wasn't that difficult after the Year of the Raven downfall, but we're finally getting what we want: a fresh game through the whole 4-months-arc. So far so good. Thanks to them for that (Conjurer's Calling is still a stupid card for 3 mana, but for this time I'll let it slide).

While I don't really care about skins in general (I'm not into cosmetics), I agree with you about your #1 wish: dust policy should be reworked. We're getting three expansion a year with 135 cards each one: the numbers have increased since the Adventures years, but the system is the same. I think that half of the cost would be too much to ask, at least for all the rarities. I would be totally fine with:

    RARITYCRAFT REGULARCRAFT GOLDENDISENCHANT REGULARDISENCHANT GOLDEN
    COMMON4040010 (from 5)40
    RARE10080025 (from 20)100
    EPIC4001600100400
    LEGENDARY160032004001600

With the 1/4 ratio you'll get A LOT more dust than you think (nearly the double if you run the numbers), but maybe this is too much of a drastic change. Another request I would make is to lower the cost of Wild cards: halve all the crafting/disenchanting costs and allow new players to experiment a format that would otherwise be exclusive of those who own a large collection and have been playing for years.

Another wish is getting trade tokens: I have this Legendary which is really strong but I don't have enough stuff to build a deck around it, whereas my friend needs it and has one that I'd like to have. You would get them through end of the season rewards and/or in game events like Arena, Tavern Brawls or as a reward for achieving a certain result (1000 wins with a class?). Tokens should be quite difficult to obtain, but would at least encourage the development of an in game community, which is my third wish.

Give us in-game group chats, a guild-like system with group quests (I don't know: win 200 games in a single week and unlock this reward/skin), an activity log and stuff like this. I don't want HS to become a shallow copy of other games, but we are really behind in this aspect.

    1. Make it impossible to open duplicate epics until all epics of a set are owned, like how this currently works for legendaries. Epics are very expensive to craft, especially when 2 copies are needed, and it sucks to open duplicate epics.

An alternative to this wish would be implementing better disenchant values, especially for wild cards.

    2. Give us more incentive to play using more quests, achievements and unlockables. Right now daily quests are the only thing that feels rewarding for me.

    3. Implement more game modes. My first choice would be a mode with rotating sets.

    My wishes would be:

    1. Change the Dusting/Crafting System - we should defenitely get more dust for disenchanting :)

    2. Achievements in the Game with little Rewards - for example "won 1000 matches as priest -  Reward: golden Priest Legendary" or even easier ones like for example: 10 WIns in a Row - get a cardback etc.

    3. A Guild Mode - you can either create or join a Guild and together you can rank up the Guild Level and earn gold etc.

    1. Maybe slightly higher gold reward for doing quests, and winning games.

    2. More activities/events/new cards between expansions.

    3. More achievements, and improve the existing ones so that playing the game is more rewarding

    1. Achievements! Really difficult ones at best. And maybe a title in front of the name to brag with them. Or a special emote.

    2. Statistics! Give us numbers, winrates, pack-counters, the whole thing.

    3. An easy way to obtain wild cards. I know that this fucks up economics but maybe a shadow version that is not disenchantable and looks kinda shitty?

I know that those are „wishes“ and don’t have to be realistic but ...

    1. if you double the dust value, every casual would get a full collection.

    2. Game size would probably explode.

    3. Time walls up the value for people that own skins. It‘s important imo to some degree. But it‘s true that the little skins we have are inaccessible. On the other hand, i barely see the buyable hero portraits on ladde

    1) I just want my damn druid ramp back.  Hearthstone has to be the only card game that can't balance a simple "2 mana, ramp 1".  Everyone else from MTG to Shadowverse to Eternal etc has the exact same card (if not a more powerful version!) and all of them have exactly zero balance issues with it despite some of these other card games being older or more nerf-happy.  Maybe it's because they weren't stupid enough to print a UI for the same class

Now that that's rotated, any druid outside of token and the entire ramp mechanic is completely dead.  A staple and basic mechanic in any card game - dead!  Maybe instead of renaming the deathrattle mechanic and calling it a new keyword this expansion, they should work on making the existing ones actually competitive and playable

    2) A new constructed mode using that rotating card pool system that arena has

    3) Solo mode has a lot of cool card interactions (Easter egg lines spoken when specific cards are played against or with specific heroes).  Maybe put more of these into constructed?

    My wishes would be:

    1. Complete reworks of both Ladder (away with this boring grind and put in automated tournament, like on SC2) and economy system (dust value and gold gain).
    2. More formats (not only Wild and Standard but also other mixed up limitation on which cards you can use, like in MTG).
    3. Less cards per expansion set (stop printing useless filler and more meaningfull cards).

    1. Achievement system. It doesn't even need to have a ton of rewards tied to it necessarily, just more fun stuff to shoot for. Maybe a system that works similar to quests and rewards gold, but a lot less? I'm not sure. I'd love to see more carrots added for the single player content, especially.

    2. Some type of guild system would be amazing, or like an in-game "group finder" type system that lets you reach out to other players who may share the same goals as you. I think this would alleviate some of the issues we're feeling regarding casual mode right now. If I could join or create a guild/group that focused on creating weird decks, or even just say "Hey, looking to play against another weirdass homebrew" and let people whisper me/start a game against me, that would be fantastic.

Third party options exist for this same concept, yes, but they tend to not be as "in the moment" accessible. I'm thinking something similar to the in-game group finder tool in WoW, where you can create a group for a dungeon and announce your goals right off the bat. In WoW, I'm a guild leader of a more casual guild. I'm always using this tool to fill in for guild groups, especially with our newer/more casual players. I can grab fill-ins and tell people right off the bat that we may not make the Mythic+ timer or we're on a bunch of potato alts. Everyone knows what they're signing up for. It's win-win.

    2. More options for current game modes, or more game modes in general. What if there was a way to queue up for a game where players each picked 3 of their decks, and their opponent had the ability to ban one of those decks? Or a whole new game mode that didn't offer gold for winning games as quickly as possible, and maybe was more focused on older sets, kind of like some of the brawl modes we get. I love the brawl system, but its one big flaw is the fact that most players just treat them as a one-and-done for the free pack.

    1. MOAR CARDS: Undo the rotations, allow all cards to be played again: wild is the new standard. Of course now you have to nerf cards reasonably so they remain in play without being OP.
    2. LESS GRIND: Blizz be more generous, like give daily rewards of all kind (tickets, packs, cards, dust, gold).
    3. MIX'EM: Allow occasional inter-class mixing for more fun and synergies. That will require infinite slots for decks.

    Oh wait, I think I reinvented TES:Legends.

    1.  Change the purchasable heroes (Allerra, Mangi, and Medihv) to include 10-20 classic packs.  Award all players who have already purchased it the same amount of packs.  I want to purchase these heroes and cardbacks but cannot justify purchasing only cosmetics in a game that requires me to pay money for actual content 3 times a year to stay up to date.  Please put a rotate option in the hero screen for classes that have multiple hero skins.  Any kind of variety helps keep the game fresh.  I don't want to have to keep going through loading screens and menus just to change a skin.  It is cumbersome.

    2.  Do not be afraid to bring back older keywords.  Even if only 1-2 Inspire or Overkill cards show up in every other expansion it still adds variety and creates more deck building challenges.

    3.  Either change how the resurrection mechanic works or change the priest cards that utilize this broken mechanic! Big priest sucks!

    1. More nerfs and buffs more often, maybe every 2 or 3 weeks. Don't let the meta settle. ALso give smore chances to adress problem cards like Barnes

    2. Allowing to select from old tavern brawls in friendly matches. Some TBs have been incredibly fun but happen so rarely. Would be great if we at least yould do the privately with a friend.

    3. Reduce the pack prices. I feel the current rates are ridiculously high, considering to get a prepurchase of an expansion (which are usually better deals) you pay the same or more than for a full new game release.

Oh great Bear Fairy that never shaves, I wish for these things in Hearthstone:

    1) I am always lucky when I play this game.

    2) Change the dust economy so that disenchanting cards gives me dust proportionately more close to the price of creating a card with dust. For example, I'd say it should be like a GameStop or better proportion when considering buying and selling games (does GameStop exist anymore?) So like, I can disenchant a common for 20 dust and craft one for 40, I can disenchant a legendary for 800 or 900 and craft one for 1600.

    3) Make ranked play less random and stupid. Actually create a ranked play experience that allows players to truly show how serious they are about the game with rankings that actually reflect their skill rather than how many hours they put into the game.

I am not greedy.  I just want one wish:

That my opponent not always draws perfectly on curve.  Once in a blue moon - ok.  But too often my deck tracker shows perfect 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 mana plays when I die.

    One wish only....

    1. A permanent Constructed Arena, with one free entrance per week.
    2. Stop giving Priest necromancer cards, and give them more Miracle stuff to fit Radiant Elemental Lyra the Sunshard
    3. More strong tech cards for Reno/Control vs Combo/Infinity (especially in Wild). At that point one can choose the direction of teching (either Aggro or Combo), while still being unable to optimally tech against both with the same list.

    1. A bit more generosity: as previously stated: up the disenchant value of common and rare cards to 1/4 of their craft-value. Also increase the number of quests that give 60 G or more, or increase their appearencerate.

    2. Some achivements: having a goal really motivates someone! Some cardbacks, a few packs, a few cards that may only be obtained this way, it wouldn't be much more than cosmetics. Maybe gift a classic pack for every 200wins, an alternate hero for playing 10k pirates/elementals/beasts/mechs...As well as cosmetics. Titels wouldn't cost Blizzard anything.

    Maybe even weekly quests?

    3. Make wild more accessibile. A lot of people whine about a stale (standard) meta, and would never consider switching to wild, since they only know about Big Priest's reign. More balance updates for the wild meta, the possibility to buy wild packs with gold, and cheap access to the wild adventures (2,3€/$ to buy it, wings have to be opened with gold) would widen the metagame for a lot of players, and would allow more casual or new players to go wild.

    1) As others have said, an expansive Achievements system. People often underestimate how engaging Achievements are for many people, it's a great way to ensure people keep playing.

    2) Expansive cosmetic content. You could tie a lot of things into the Achievements system to keep it free. I'd prefer it if everything could be bought with Gold or Dust, but wouldn't mind if they wanted to keep a few 'special' things real money only.

    3) A new mode. My suggestion would be what Arena has right now, with the rotating available sets, but as a constructed mode. Really just a new mode which is a bit more fun focused than Wild or Standard are.

    Welcome to the site!

    1. Crafting costs dependable on the cards' popularity, or just a more affordable system - trying out memes is getting too expensive
    2. Chat
    3. Some kind of complete reworking of MMR system - I don't want to face competitive tryhards when I'm trying out a deck type I have never played for the first time
