Is There Any Reason Not To Play Silver Surfer Right Now?

Submitted 1 year, 11 months ago by

One of the things I liked about LOR is that there weren't any "best decks"

You could take a Swain deck that was powerful in vanilla LOR since the games launch, give it a numbers tweak during a patch and just go right back to winning with boat 3 years later.

But in snap it is a numbers game.

If you can play a card like brood and tripple or double buff it with the likes of patriot and silver surfer.

It's like gg good job you build the most vanilla of all decks that synergies with the most vanilla of all cards and you won by putting out the biggest numbers...gg go next? You win?

Ideally in card games people like to build "archetypes" not "anti archetypes" and when the anti-archetypes get better than the archetypes as your reward for spending money or grinding the game since day 1.

Like good for you I guess? Just not sure that's for me, like maybe if you want to get to infinite but if you're beating up free to play players in Plat that's just sad.

Once again we are running into the greedy pool 3 problem, every now and then you will face these decks you dont have the tools to deal with so Ben Brode can get your money.

This is why I hated hearthstone and I hate to see it here in snap too.

Honestly i don't get what you're so upset about. I'm winning a lot with a deck of mostly pool 1 and some pool 2 cards. I believe i have only one pool 3 card which i bought with 1000 tokens (yet EVERYONE could've done the same).  Yea, there are some decks that can wreck me if they get lucky (like discard with Hella and Death). So?! If they didn't discard Hella by turn 6, i'm very likely to just concede instead of losing 4 cubes.

Why is it so hard to understand that a deck's viability is not given by the pool of the cards? Play whatever deck you like and i assure you there is at least one location that will make you lose.

Similarly, why care so much about losing 1 cube when you can win 4 or 8?! It's a learning process - learn when to concede, when to press on, when to snap on turn 4 or earlier etc.

My deck is an all-rounder with disruption. Elektra for that stupid sun spot, and so on. And guess what? - if they played sun spot before, and nothing on turn 5, guess what's coming down on turn 6?! - exactly - The Infinite. Do i have a way to win with that on the board? If yes, snap him; if not, concede.

Sure, there are some decks that can outperform or are a bit over the top (eg: that Hella deck), but they can get screwed by locations, by their own playstyle (eg: discarding Hella), or by their own stupidity (eg: why not play a 16 power Apocalypse and definitely win the second location and the game, instead of Chavez?!).

Sorry, but these complaints are getting annoying. The most randomness in this game is from the locations, but at the same time they make you think more about how to win. Can't win? Concede. Sure, some people believe the game is dull because it's too same-y and the decks are too thin - but this is a big plus. Want solitaire - go to HS. Here you need to adapt every game. What's wrong with that?! Too much thinking is bad?

Learning when to concede is also an adaptation. Another one would be: "do i play doctor doom or hulk, on 6? Do i also have blue marvel in play? What location is the opponent actively ignoring? Who wins me the game? Am i depending too much on the turn 6 play when the power differential is kind of bad?"

I played two decks - Prof. X and Omega Red - from Bronce to Plat.
Even with an Omega Red win streak from G41 to Plat 52.

And it was all about "know what you do and snap correctly".

tbh I don't find SS to be overwhelming compared to some harder to block combos. SS and Brood are powerful for sure but they're also pretty telegraphed and that's where smart retreating can make a big difference.

that said, I find it's the patriot into mystique into ultron that is wrecking house more often for me. if they're spread into different locations, not even enchantress can really stop it.

if you think someone is planning a SS drop, play Cosmo into one of the non-brood locations and watch them run out of options quick. that's how i've been handling it personally.

So what you just said is that silver surfer isn't the best card in the silver surfer deck

Do you see the problem with that?

Aka yes obviouy mystique into patriot is better because you are stacking a 3 location buff for less mana then captain marvel.

    And youre stacking it twice
