Best answers (preferably spells) to wide boards?

We all know hunters struggle to clear wide boards though Unleash the Hounds makes them useful for lethals..

My question is what answers wide boards the best in your opinion?

Assuming a control/reno deck, is Explosive Shot woth it?

  • Explosive Trap and Deathstalker Rexxar for smaller, wide boards. Zephrys the Great for big boards, as clearing such boards is Hunter's weakness. Explosive Shotis a little too situational to run in your main deck.

  • Veranus + Explosive, Veranus + UtH, Veranus + your board. Tho i guess you want to build a Spell Hunter? Weak AOE is obviously the weakness for Hunter by design, so not many choices there. Wild Pyromancer is always an option too. Or just dont let it get that far in a first place.

  • It's not for a reno deck.. though it plays a bit like one .. I've only really lost to zoo and odd paladin as an early start is rough for this deck.

Rexxar works.. though the hero power is kind of a liability.. I can't fill my hand. Explosive trap it is I guess.

  • Well you don't have any copies of Explosive Trap in your deck, that is probably a good place to start.

  • When Mech Hunter was all the rage, I saw a lot of 8-mana (i.e. drop them both together so neither piece can get cleared) Venomizer + Missile Launcher. Obviously not a spell, nor foolproof (if anything has Divine Shield) but still a fairly strong board wipe while still leaving you a strong body afterwards.

  • I added a copy of Explosive Trap but have yet to test it. I thought of adding one Flare against secrets but Im really only weak to polymorph and even then it's kind of easy to save a lynx till right before dropping Mechathun.

Master's Call on the other hand lets me choose and draw the right minion in a deck that's mostly spells- whether it is an Ursatron to drop on 4 or Halazzi, the Lynx with Arcane Fletcher in hand.

I might add a Flare still but last mage I faced got deleted with two secrets up, probably an Ice Block among them.

  • The new hunter legendary dragon, Veranus isn't a spell itself but it combines very well with most of hunter's removal tools: unleash, explosive trap, Desert Spear, lynxes, etc. The hunter  class isn't traditionally good at dealing with wide boards so your options are pretty limited. There's also Crushing Walls if you're running Zul'jin anyway.

Not much gained from Veranus in this particular deck but Im seeing it's use..

_Crushing Walls could replace one of the Deadly Shot  to get the deck closer to being a highlander deck... Then switch one Master's Call for a Flare.. include Zephrys the Great and  maybe Reno..

-Nine Lives is huge in this deck though.. it's extremely versatile- draw/heal/removal and rescource generation unsure if any card could replace it.

The balance of spells and minions would get destabilised by these changes but I just love experimenting.. Highlander C'thun Hunter.. I dig it.

  • There's always the tried and true Primordial Drake which nobody has mentioned already, depends on the size of boards though, and of course it being 8 mana, but if you are talking about crushing walls it might be a good thing to bring up.

Alternatively i run Baron Geddon a lot for extra AOE in most of my decks, it's usually good for cleanup after already playing a boardclear on the previous turn.

    • you can't convert this deck into a highlander deck because you need both of Galvanizers and if you can't draw them, you can't use highlander cards.

You need to choose between highlander and Mecha'thun.

Also, If it is wild (and i see it is wild) Use only Mecha'thun, Hemet, Jungle Hunter, Galvanizer and Stitched Tracker as minions. All other cards should be hero cards and spells that costs 3 or less.

Use Stitched Tracker to find either Galvanizer and Hemet, Jungle Hunter. When you find 2 Galvanizers you will use Hemet, Jungle Hunter and in 1-4 turns (depending on your early draws) you will be able to draw your Mecha'thun.

That's the only way Mecha'thun works for Hunter, It doesn't work with other ways and this is also not a good way. Mecha'thun Hunter is hard. Not impossible but hard without so much control package.

Still; If you don't want to change your deck; at least change Master's Call with Stitched Trackers. They both doing same thing in non-beast decks and it has at least a body.

Also, If you don't want to change your deck, You can always use Toxic Arrow + Unstable Ghoul in wild.

Hmm.. these are pretty good advice.. but Master's Call draws the minion and Stitched tracker gives you a copy.. for a mecha'thun deck thinning is better than board building. Will think of that when building decks in the future though.

Ghoul + Toxic arrow, Baron geddon and Primordial Drake..Brilliant! gotta jot it all down.

Yea I guess it won't be a highlander deck even though with an Ursatron tutoring the Galvaniser it's not as impossible. Instead the deck now is standard! Yay! Turns out all I had to do was replace Quick Shot with Corrosive Breath and powershot with something else and voilà!

I still don't think Mecha'thun will work without Hemet, Jungle Hunter because there are not enough draws for hunter sadly.

          You can always try tho.

I mean it's a meme deck so Im happy it's above 50% winrate so far but emptying the deck is definitely not a problem..

I could always add Hemet but the deck's already drawing enough.
