Shaman are spiritual guides and practitioners, not of the divine, but of the very elements. Unlike some other mystics, shaman commune with forces that are not strictly benevolent. The elements are chaotic, and left to their own devices, they rage against one another in unending primal fury. It is the call of the shaman to bring balance to this chaos. Acting as moderators among earth, fire, water, and air, shaman summon totems that focus the elements to support the shaman’s allies or punish those who threaten them. (source)
Greetings, friend! There's a lot to learn when jumping in to Hearthstone, and the goal of this guide is to help you get a clearer understand of this class's basic cards. You'll also find the levels at which you unlock cards & their golden versions.
The Shaman class can be unlocked by defeating an opponent playing the class. It's identity involves totems, Elementals, evolution, Overload, and an array of elemental healing and damaging capabilities. As you level your Shaman you will unlock the remainder of the class cards, many of which are quite powerful.
Basic Class Cards
You begin with 5 of your class cards available, while the other 5 must be earned through playing that class. An overview of these cards can be found below:
Golden Copies - Levels 15 & 20
Ancestral Healing does not have a cost. It will fully heal the target minion and grant it Taunt. - This is a defensively oriented spell and helps to stifle aggression from your opponent.
- If the target minion can attack and survive, be sure to do that before casting this. You don't want your minion to take damage again after restoring it's Health!
- Ideally you should try and choose minions with a large Health pool as they are more difficult to deal with for your opponent.
This card is best used: - On minions with a large Health pool.
- On damaged minions you wish to preserve.
- To stifle aggressive decks.
Golden Copies - Levels 32 & 34
Frost Shock is a card that has not seen too much play, but it does have it's purpose. It is essentially a miniature Frostbolt. - A minion with Divine Shield will still be frozen by this spell as the effect is not tied to the damage being dealt.
- You can combine this with Spell Damage.
This card is best used: - In combination with freeze synergies.
Golden Copies - Levels 36 & 38
Rockbiter Weapon boosts the attack of a character for the turn. - Make sure that your target is still capable of attacking.
- This can allow your hero to attack even without equipping a weapon.
This card is best used: - As a source of burst damage.
- For more favorable trades.
Golden Copies - Levels 23 & 26
Windfury gives a minion the Windfury keyword. This means it can attack twice per turn. Not much else to it. This card is best used: - On high Attack minions to deal double damage.
- On minions with a high Health pool to trade twice as much.
- As a possible win condition.
Golden Copies - Levels 47 & 48
Hex is a very strong card and key to the Shaman identity. - This is a hard removal spell that permanently transforms a minion into a harmless Frog.
- Save this card for your opponent's most dangerous or difficult to remove minions.
- Transformations will not trigger Deathrattles. All such effects will be lost.
This card is best used: - To remove your biggest threats.
- To negate Deathrattles and all other effects.

We will give an overview of these locked class cards, and at which level you can access them:

Bloodlust is a staple win condition for Shaman. All of your minions immediately get a +3 Attack increase. - You get more value from this spell by having more minions. With the right amount of damage you can suddenly achieve exact lethal.
- Alternatively, you can use this as a form of board clear to trade you minions into your opponents'.
This card is best used: - As a win condition for sudden lethal damage.
- To use your minions to clear the board if necessary.
Unlocked - Level 4 Golden Copies - Levels 43 & 44
Flametongue Totem is a very valuable card that you will no doubt make use of if you play a lot of Shaman. Minions beside this get +2 Attack. - You must play this minion strategically to use it to it's full potential. Place it in between you minions efficiently.
- This is often a key target for players encountering Shamans, so try to protect it as much as possible.
This card is best used: - To trade several minions more efficiently.
- To strengthen adjacent Taunt minions protecting it.
- To deal more face damage to your opponent.
- In combination with effects that interact with Totems
Unlocked - Level 6 Golden Copies - Levels 28 & 30
Totemic Might is simple and has a very specific purpose - making your Totems more difficult to remove. - This has some uses with decks that aim to build a wide board of Totems to utilize Bloodlust or Totem synergies.
This card is best used: - To make your Totems more difficult to remove.
Unlocked - Level 8 Golden Copies - Levels 45 & 46
Windspeaker is a minion form of Windfury that has the same effect, plus stats on the board. - Battlecries will not trigger if the minion is summoned to the board rather than played.
- Windfury is effective with minions with a high Health pool or Attack.
This card is best used: - To allow a friendly minion to trade into multiple enemies.
- In combination with high Attack minions to deal lethal damage.
Unlocked - Level 10 Golden Copies - Levels 49 & 50
Fire Elemental packs a lot into a convenient package. It's Battlecry is valuable and can efficiently remove enemy minions from play when it enters the battlefield. - The formidable stats and Elemental tag make this a very well rounded and effective card.
- Great for removing pesky minions behind Taunt, or even dealing exact lethal if they have very little Health remaining.
This card is best used: - To remove a minion from your opponent's board and establish your own.
- In combination with cards that synergize with Elementals.
- To finish off the enemy hero if they are very low on health.
